man this story just won't die
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com//2010/writers/jim_trotter/04/30/dez.bryant.jeff.ireland/index.html
(1) Ireland asked Bryant what his father does; (2) Bryant openly admitted he's a pimp; (3) Ireland then asked what mother does; (4) Bryant said that his mother works for his father; (5) Ireland then asked if his mother is a prostitute.

At least it's a clarification, and not another snap judgment about Ireland (GM).

?@/#$$##^%%@%^&&%^$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All this crap has been about this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!
Un-freaking-believable.
His dad's a pimp and his mom works for his dad, but she's not a hooker....I guess then, it would have been ok if he asked is your mom a pimp or a pimp's accountant?
Dez Bryant and the National Media owe Irish an apology now.eric, Starry31, Ohio Fanatic and 6 others like this. -

Actually, Human Relations Representative
is the title
Nowhere near what a Prostitute does...
Sounds like a euphemism, but it's NOT!
...Right on, Dez!
Again, I hope the Jerry Jones cash soothes your soul, brother. Its absorbency becomes useful in wiping tears as well. -
Actually I think this is worse.
Yes there was miscommunication, but Ireland, classy fella he is, should have asked, what is it exactly does your mom do for your dad. Instead, is your mother a whore?
See, the justification before for Ireland was that he had some inside information, some private investigation stuff, that his mother was a whore.
Yes, I still think Ireland was out of line. And so did Ireland. -
Are you kidding me??? seriously....What does your father do? He is a doctor? What does your mother do? She works for him? Is she a nurse?......whats the difference

Bryant has caught everything, including a one-hand grab, but looks out of shape. "Cmon 88!" Wade hollered gently as Bryant kneeled down.
Gently being the KEY word.....god forbid you treat him like a football player showing up out of shape....can you imagine if the Dolphins took this clown at 12 overall, or even 28...MikeHoncho and Fin D like this. -

All I can say is I'm really glad we didn't draft this whiny little *****. If he got offended by that, I pray to GOD he invests in some good earplugs for his NFL career.Puka-head and Killerphins like this. -

So, now that we know how the conversation went down and we know that Dez has said in the past that he'll make any team that passes him up...pay, and we know he fully expected to go to us or right around us and he didn't...you still want to blame this on Ireland?MikeHoncho and SeanP like this. -

I hereby withdraw about 90% of my former criticism of Ireland for this incident.

I probably would have followed this exact line of questioning if I were Ireland.
If he owed Dez an apology for that, then the media owes him an apology for all this bs.DolfanJake, LandShark13 and Fin D like this. -
If Bryant's mother had a conviction for selling crack cocaine and served 18 months and she worked for a pimp isn't it logical she could be a prostitute with a crack habit?
Ireland: " Bryant if your mom works for your dad the pimp is she a prostitute? "
Bryant: " No!, she is not a prostitute, she sells crack cocaine! " -

sorry JDand but you're really reaching on this one bro...if and when you tell someone that your father was a pimp and that your mother worked for him, what in God's name would you expect the other person to think? Think of it this way, you've been dating a gal for a while and thinking of marrying her, but you'd like to get to know her family better. You ask what her father does, and the answer is pimp. You ask what her mother does, after getting over the whole pimp as a father thing, and the answer is "works for my Dad". You're telling me at that point, instead of flat asking "so you Mom's a prostitute?", you come out with "so what exactly does your Mom do for him?"...??? The whole pimp/prostitut relationship only has two players. The total number of emplyees is 2, unless there are more whores of course. Come on man, sounds like you've got an axe to grind to me.

Yall are calling Ireland a liar. He said it was inappropriate. Everyone in here is trying to say it wasn't. He was there. We weren't. I'm pretty sure these sources were not either.
All I'm doing, is agreeing with Ireland. The one guy who is there, who has spoken publicly about it. What exactly are you doing? -
IMHO of course, but if that's the unpopular way to go I'll try again: "Have you started burning bodies? I want a front row seat for the pyre! Tell me you haven't burned Jeff yet!" -
Pofo tricks, sure.
From the CNNSI article:
-
He basically said he realized Dez was hurt by the question and simply apologized. The fact that he didn't didn't realize this at the time shows he practiced poor judgment. He meant no disrespect. That's it. And hether or not a question is inappropriate depends on the maturity level of the person being queried and their subsequent reaction.
-
If this is in fact how the conversation went, there are a whole lot of people out there in the media and otherwise that owe Jeff Ireland a BIG TIME apology and a very public Mea Culpa.
-
Fact of the matter is, if it went down this way, then Ireland is saying such, since it absolves him from a lot of the PR mess. He doesn't go apologize for an inappropriate act he did not commit. Isn't that the simplest answer? If it went down this way we would have heard from him, or the Dolphins officially. But we get unnamed sources instead.
I'll say it like this, if it went down the way it is alleged, then I will agree with you. It's not so bad. But so far, there is no evidence that leads me to believe it went down that way. -
Perception is reality, and the perception the media was putting out there was that Ireland asked an inflammatory question out of the blue. He had no choice but to issue that apology whether he thought it was deserved or not. I would have done the same thing, regardless of how the actual conversation went down.
-
But it is possible, to apologize to someone not because you felt like you did anything wrong, but because that someone got hurt, pulled in the media and people are calling for your head.LandShark13 likes this. -
