That's the thing, I don't think they view Jared Odrick as a pass-rushing end. I think he's more of an oversized DE that's meant to stop the run. I think it's a schematic preference based on some of Kevin Coyle's influences. I think that's why we now have Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler to add that pass-rush in the base packages. If they were able to find a guy like Carlos Dunlap, who is 6'6" 285lbs and is a phenomenal athlete, yeah, I think he'd be starting at DE over Odrick. Miami doesn't have that guy in my opinion. I think it's a fundamental part of what they want to do defensively as they incorporate a lot of 3-4-esque stuff into the defense. Obviously, I'm basing that off of last year.

I'm not too impressed with Olivier Vernon as a DE, but I do like him as a drop LB in sub packages like he was used last year. Playing Dion Jordan as a pure DE out of a 3-point stance right off the bat would be a mistake IMO. He's more dynamic than he is a pass-rusher, and I think he's better suited standing up. He even says he prefers to play standing up.

I think there is a better chance of Vernon starting over Odrick at DE than Odrick starting over Starks at DT.

I also liked Vernon when used in that drop LB role. He made some plays doing that. The young man can cover some ground.

If you look at last year toward the end of the season, they ran a lot of 3-3-5 nickel stuff. You could see this:

RDE - Vernon
DT - Starks or Odrick
LDE - Wake
RLB - Jordan
MLB - Ellerbe
LLB - Wheeler

No. But I do believe Odrick will get a healthy rotation on the inside as opposed to the outside. I think that decision has been made. Odrick had been saying that if he was going to stay outside at end that he would lose weight to get better at what he needed to do. Well, he hasn't lost any weight, it doesn't look like...

 

He could be with them, they may be showing Vonta the facilities and Beasley didn't see or recognize him.. :confused:

I'd like to see maybe a Quarters package or 3-3-5 with Odrick at DT, Vernon at End, and DJ at LB. I think that could cause some mismatches in the passing game!
