Mock Draft 1.9

Well, with Dansby coming on board that logically removes Ro McClain from #12 consideration, meaning the #12 is freed up and right now:
#1...Jermaine Gresham..we need a seam busting Te, he fills the bill.
#2..Ricky Sapp
#3..Brandon LeFell
#4..Vince Oghabaase..poor combine knocks him back to here
#5...traded for Tyler Thigpen
#6..Adrian Tracy OLB/DE
#6..D'Anthony Smith DR
#6..LeRoy Van..Florida A&M
#7..John Conner KY
#7...Terrel Whitehead Norfolk State
Now, being a Dolphin fan does make me pessimistic, so until Dansby is holding up the Jersey with that goofy look on his face, the situation is still unclear.
I don't think signing Dansby has any effect on whether or not we go after a LB with the 12th pick. I think we could still draft McClain, but I would rather have an outside LB like Graham and I think he could still be our first pick. If I am the Phins I try to drop down about 4 or 5 spots and take Graham and hopefully we get an extra pick for dropping down.

The Browns traded out of the #6 pick last yr and got very very little for doing so..
And "no" if Dansby winds up in Miami tomorrow, McClain becomes overkill, we need a #1 target and Gresham is the closest thing to it at #12.
This FO isn't going to draft a TE at 12. Especially with the glaring hole we have at SOLB.
I'll be really surprised if we spend more than one of our top 4 picks on offense, pending what happens in the rest of FA.

The won't draft a TE, but they will draft a weak run defending safety?
Gresham isn't an option at 12, but neither is Earl Thomas.
Depending upon how Jason Pierre-Paul comes across in interviews may determine whether Miami takes him or not. He's the athletic freak that this regime loves at the OLB position.
I could possibly see Dan Williams as the pick there. They got a first hand view of him at the Senior Bowl and reportedly were very impressed.
I like Brandon Graham, but I believe his size is going to end up making him less of an option.
Everson Griffen is a strong possibility. He's an athletic wonder for the position and has the kind of size they like.
The dark horse is Jared Odrick.
Not a fan of that draft at all i like Jermaine Gresham but i think 12 is to early for him

Sparano loves Te play and Gresham fits the need we have for a deep threat and a quality receiver in the offense.
SLB...is a grunt position 66% of the time, why spend the #12 out on it?>
In my mind... The pick at #12 is a lock to be either Sean Weatherspoon or Everson Griffen. About four days ago, I had Miami as being locked in for Sean Weatherspoon at #12... but after watching/reading profiles of Griffen, he just looks like a football grunt that Parcells likes on his teams. Sean Weatherspoon is purely for the fact that he has the range to cover TE's or RB's, and the fact that having Weatherspoon at ILB with Crowder would make Dansby versatile in the case of Weatherspoon or Channing getting injured. Dansby is starter quality at ILB or OLB.

have our lbs as SOLB: dansby ILBs: Crowder, and weatherspoon WOLB: Charlie anderson/or Cam Wake i think that would be a good LB core

Because TE isn't as big of a need as Free Safety is. Fasano is better than Chris Clemons. Last year we weren't very good at generating turnovers. We were in the middle of the league when it came to interceptions. Earl Thomas will improve that number. Our coverage from our FS wasn't very good, either. Passes that were made against Miami last year probably wouldn't be have been made if Thomas was our starter.
Also, look at the Saints and Darren Sharper. He's a weak run defending FS, but his coverage skills are elite. I know they're scheme is different than ours, but my point is every player is flawed. You take the good with the bad. In this case, you have great coverage skills but a weak run defending FS with potential to improve in his weak area.
Right now I'm thinking Jerry Hughes with Brandon Graham as a close 2nd choice. Follow that with Cam Thomas in the 2nd and after that I could see Pitta in the 3rd or Quarless in the 4th
BTW, sorry Padre for derailing. Nice draft. Absolutely love the Tracy and Conner picks. Conner is an absolute beast though I wonder if we would pick another FB. Also like the LaFell pick in the 3rd. Great value if he lasts that long

Wow. I hate the Gresham, Sapp, and LaFell picks. Actually LaFell might not be so bad but ckparrothead keeps knocking his hands.
Did not catch a Duke game last season so I don't know much about Oghabaase. NFL Draft Scout and Draft Countdown actually have D'Anthony Smith rated ahead of him.
Did not catch a Florida A&M game last season either so I never saw Vann in action. Sounds like he is a hell of a kick returner though.
I have never seen a William & Mary game in my life but I have read good things about Tracy. He did pretty well at the Combine.
Big fan of D'Anthony Smith.
You may be right about John Conner. Rumor is the triumvirate is very high on him. However we are set at fullback with Lou Polite. I don't understand why they would draft him but it would not surprise me if they did.
Not familiar with Terrell Whitehead. I have never seen a Norfolk State game in my life but I have read good things about him. Impressive career INT total.
Thanks for the mock. Some interesting late round picks there. :hi5:

Let me guess Boomer to KB to CK.
Bring this man back into the fold if you want some real leadership on this team.
If I was the Dolphins GM I would try my hardest to trade down. There are just so many great prospects.
Round 1 - Dez Bryant, Golden Tate, Earl Thomas, Dan Williams, Jason Pierre-Paul, Brandon Graham, Brian Price, Sean Weatherspoon, and Terrence Cody. That's eight players. If I've got the 20th pick I'm still getting a player I love.
Round 2 - Corey Wootton, Jerry Hughes, Arrelious Benn, Demaryius Thomas, Reshad Jones, Brandon Spikes, Koa Misi, and Ryan Mathews. I'd be thrilled with any of those guys.
Round 3 - Mike Johnson, John Jerry, Torrell Troup, Lamarr Houston, Javier Arenas, A.J. Edds, Jermaine Cunningham, or Ben Tate. All great prospects.
Now imagine I'm getting at least three of those guys plus another three picks. That would be insane.

I'm not a huge Cam Thomas fan, it seems to me, being surrounded by up to four players who will be considered as first round types next year really made Thomas look better than he is.
There is a chance the Phins could take Dan Williams at 12, but that seems really high for an inconsistent player who wasn't dominant in college.
I was thinking it could possibly Earl Thomas with all the attention paid to Antrel Rolle, but I think we might fill that position with a veteran.
Part of me believes that CJ Spiller is a dark horse in all of this, but Parcells has a history of finding his RB's later on. With Jason Worilds, Ricky Sapp, and Jerry Hughes a chance at 43, we could conceivably take an OLB'er later on, and take a player who is a matchup problem at 12. I doubt it's Gresham though, with him coming back from injury, poor blocking reputation, and running a slower than expected time. Would love Dez Bryant, and he would be the pick if Denver didn't have the opportunity and need for a WR.
Wouldn't mind burning a 6th rounder on Cody Harbor. Ran a 4.69, and said his starting technique needs to improve, jumped a great vertical and broad jump, and ran a solid three cone. I believe he was in the top-5 for TE's in every category and had the most lifts at 30. A two-time All-American on the 1-AA level, he has been productive as well. 6-3, 250 but does need to improve blocking.
I love this time of year, and signing Dansby just opens up so many possibilities for us to go with.
I hate the first three picks. I see Gresham and Lafell as guys with inconsistent hands who drop too many passes. And Sapp is a one-dimensional speed guy with too sacks. Our need at OLB is on the strong side and and Sapp seems to lack the functional strength to hold up there.

And Sapp is meant for the SLB position, he would be "our" Robert Ayers.

D Thomas dropped passes all the time..
The one thing LeFell and Gresham have is upper end prototypical size which dovetails nicely into Tuna/Irish/Sparano's philosophy.

So does Turner. It didn't make him a good pick.

Odd, of all the things I've heard said about LaFell or Gresham "underachiever" was not one them, or at least not in the same manner that it is used in re Pat Turner..

I've heard LaFeel was a bit of underachiever for his talent level, and will struggle to gain separation. When I watch him play (granted I don't have coaches tape), I see him hurt by an inexperience and inaccurate QB, who is super strong, and is pretty physical. He could certainly upgrade his effort at times, and run better routes, but he is a much better prospect than Turner ever was IMHO. I almost threw something at my tv when we drafted Turner in the third round.
I'd be just fine with taking LaFell in the third. To be clear, I doubt LaFell is available in the third, it's just the round we took Turner in, and I'd be happier to have LaFell is all.
Imagine, we're starting to turn WR into our QB spot of before with all of the draft picks we're spending on them. If we spend a 2nd on one, we'll have used a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th on them, while not having a #1 WR out of the bunch. Even if the WR we take this year turns out to be good, he wouldn't be a #1 WR as a rookie.
While I agree it's unlikely we draft McClain at #12 with Dansby in fold, I still think that first round pick (be it #12, or further back in round if we trade down) will be a front seven player. D. Williams, B. Graham, Weatherspoon, Hughes all have to be strong considerations IMO. I also keep hearing Jared Odrick's name being mentioned in connection with Miami.
I honestly do not see this FO picking a receiver (be it a WR or a TE) with the #12 pick.
JMHO...
