The defense had the better of the offense throughout practice on Monday … the offensive line especially struggled to contain the pass rush … C Mike Pouncey had to take a rest at one moment after a collision with NT Paul Soliai … Soliai also made his presence felt when he stopped RB Daniel Thomas at the line of scrimmage, knocking off Thomas' helmet in the process … QB Chad Henne produced one of the few highlights for the offense when he found WR Brandon Marshall deep over the middle on about a 25-yard pass during 11-on-11 work … OL Ray Willis missed a second consecutive practice for an unspecified reason.
Veteran LB Jason Taylor might be the elder statesman of the locker room but he looked like a younger man during practice on Monday. Taylor was an active presence while he worked the majority of the day with the first team, in place of Koa Misi, who was held out of practice.

anyone else worried that Long's injury might make him miss the opener?

although we aren't hearing much about Long, I tend to think they just want to sit him until the regular season starts. The guy doesn't need the practice so rest would suit him much better imo....but really who knows the extent of his injury so lets just hope for the best

As a side note, I'm wondering if JT is going a little too hard in practices. I just want to make sure he is pacing himself and will be good down the stretch

At what point does Jake need to play before he automatically misses six weeks? From what I read, if he isnt active by week 1 he sits for 6 weeks.

It’s all about Jake’s health as far as I’m concerned.GMJohnson likes this. -

What worries me the most iis its getting to be quite evident that Vernon Carey is now here only for his game checks. -
Has John Jerry done anything notable? Good or bad?
-
-
I hate to say it Vernon Carey was never that good of a player for where he was drafted
Has John Jerry done anything notable? Good or bad? Answer, he is another memeber of the 100 draft bust miami has had since 2000 .
my question is how many more years will miami keep spending on fixing the offensive line ?:no: -

Well if Long is set back because of crappy rehab people I'd have to say it doesn;t build my feeling that this is a quality operation top to bottom.
I mean, if you can;t even tell someone the right rehab exercises either you don;t care about your job very much (mentally checked out), or you suck at your job and your employer's asleep at the wheel (or cheap). -

People get caught up in the Patriots mysticism, that everything they do is mind-blowing correct even if it isn't, and I don't think them "tricking" us into drafting Carey really stands up. Not to mention Carey ended up being a better choice than Robert Gallery and Shawn Andrews. -

It did not appear to me that they drafted Carey to be a decent LT for 8-10 years. They didn't make much of an effort to develop him there if so. Wanny only had him one camp, but Saban never thought enough of his potential to try him there either. He was not a LT at The U. His two starting seasons were one at RT and one at LG.
His one year at LT under Cameron, was more out of necessity than anything else. IMO. YMMV
Can't speak for anyone else, but as for drafting acumen I have never been caught up in any "Patriots mysticism". Wilfork though is one pick that Belichick really hit on, along with Seymour and Warren. He had a good run for a few years there. Anymore, it seems to me, Billy B is much better at trading for picks than actually making them. -
-
I remember that I wanted Wilfork in that draft. First, as Mr. Clean said, the NT is the lynch pin of the 3-4 defense and is far more valuable and difficult to find than G or RT. LT is a different animal, but nobody was saying that Carey would be an NFL LT. I thought Carey was a much better G in college than he was a RT anyways.

I don't think there's really a good argument that a NT is the most important position in a 3-4. It's not an every down player. Most of them, including the player in question, only effect one aspect of the game. 3-4 DEs are more important. They contribute in every formation and phase of gameplay.
