I think if we can get livas and Spears on the PS, The only problem I would have is will allen being cut...we just don't know the info on him though..

For Livas to make the team, and justify a roster spot, while having this kickoff rule in place, and not getting much play in our receiver set, would be kind of a stretch..Spears does need strength and bulk, and with JT on the roster no chance he gets that much time on the field, so PS the 2, let them work on their bodies, gain experience, and maybe move them up to the 53 after a while.

Basically, if Livas and Spears can clear on the PS, I don't see any qualms with how it played out.

As far as moves go, I think you have to add a workhorse type running back, still look for that tight end and guard.

 

I think we are alright tbh, especially going into wk #1, afterwards the Brian Waters of the league no longer have guaranteed contracts for the whole yr, and I think our depth is sufficient for now, unless the pats game is just a trainwreck of injuries of course.

 

I expect Gates will be the featured return guy. He had more important skills to learn in the preseason though. They have to have their eye on another running back. 4 RBs (including Clay) seems thin to me.

 

Livas would have been a complete waste of a roster spot. Had one good play against second teamers. Too small to play in the NFL. I'm not sure what everyone is thinking with this guy. Obvious cut

 

Clay didn't carry the ball even once in the preseason. That makes the 4 RBs appear thin to me too. Usually teams carry 5. We got Lex who can do both jobs and Clay who potentially can be a TE or FB. Still, one more seems sensible to me.

 

I would think we take a look at chester taylor or maybe even clinton portis or tiki barber again. I dont get why we let Johnson go, i mean he was worth keeping around for a 3rd string back at least.

 

Daniel Hardy and DuJuan Harris are the two that stick out to me that the Dolphins need to claim. They should also put claims on Phil Livas and Quinton Spears. Can't believe a team was dumb enough to cut those two.

In 1102 pass blocking snaps over the last 3 years, he allowed 2 sacks. Not too shabby.

From my point of view, the bottom 3 would be Spitler, Jerry, and Culver,

Going with Irelands history and the fact that not a SINGLE one of our undrafted rooks made the roster I'd expect the bottom 6 of our roster to not be safe. Ireland's going to churn like a mutha this year.

I saw a guy who consistently made the first guy miss, caught every ball cleanly and made no mental mistakes as a returner. He had one great return this preseason and that's a fairly good percentage since a great year for a returner is about two returns to the house in a whole season. The "too small" comment is just ridiculous since history shows that being injury prone has almost no relation to size.

 

I'm not really sure VDP, it strikes me that they played the roster moves with safety in mind first and foremost, the only "upside" guy would be Kearse.

Have to wait to see how the injury situation plays out, but I think we do not see the churn we have in the past.

I think they see him as a guy that can contribute later this year maybe take that nickel spot next season.

 

He can play all 4 lb spots, and all the special teams pretty well.

He is a NT from Alabama A&M, 7th rounder, most people considered him a longshot to make the roster, especially after we signed a decent veteran backup NT in Ronald Fields. Then he came out in the 4 games and played about as well as Fields. He is naturally very strong and quick off the snap.

 

One funny story imo about Kearse was people's reaction here to him after he was drafted, because he only did 22 reps on the bench at 225. So he must be very weak considering some DBs, and RBs can do that many. Some of us defended him, saying you cannot totally measure a player's core strength or functional football strength based on bench press reps at 225 lbs. It can be part of the picture but far from the entire picture. Guys were saying he must be very weak, based on that one number. Hilarious.

 

Couple interesting things that have caught my eye as I look at the final 53.

1. ALL of the Fins draft choices made the team this year (and none of them are head scratchers at this point)
2. NONE of the UDFA's the Fins signed made the team
3. 18 of the 53 players on the roster are either rookies (6) or heading into their 2nd year (12)... seems like a high number to me.
4. Starters are pretty balanced between young guys (<4years) and "older" (>4 years) guys. The Fins have 12 starters going into their 4th season or less and 10 going into their 5th season or more

 

so he is projected as a pure NT? or is he more of a Starks type of guy?

 

Plus all draft picks but one from last year are currently still on the team. So far it looks like a good two year run.

He played 3 technique in college, but for us more of a pure NT imo. Only ever saw him at that spot in preseason.

 

Interesting that Miami never attended his Pro Day.

 

This is why they make the big bucks, to make decisions.

BTW, Feinga is another guy that did absolutely nothing to earn a roster spot.

 

I was not impressed with him at guard, but in that last game he played LT, and looked pretty good. He pass blocks better than he run blocks.

 

Me neither. Looks like a move to save face. Either he will make a big improvement or be gone next year.

 

I think they believe at least he can play T and G, but I can agree, dude is on a short leash.
