Going through a really tough patch with my dog. I have a soon to be 3 year old English Bulldog. His name is Zeus. When he was born, we were told he had a condition named Spina Bifida. It is where he basically has a small hole in his spine. However, as long as we kept his spine away from heavy weight on it or trauma, he would be all good.
Well in the past month he has been unable to jump on the bed or coach, and would get home from the dog park and not move for 24 hours basically, although would show no signs of injury during. Finally he started to cry and stuff, and I was very concerned because hes so tough. I took him to the doctor, and then a specialist. Essentially they told me he had extremely rare condition of his spina bifida and it needed immediate surgery. MRI and surgery that would cost between $4,000 to $5,000. They don't offer payment plans, as a specialist has to perform the surgery.
So I am in such a tough spot. I don't have 5k laying around. I am a baseball coach with a 3 year old son. It sucks to say the least. I started a Go Fund Me. I don't know if it will work, but if you could. Help however you can. Even if its just sharing the post on social media, man that would help out so much.
Thanks everyone!

Have you looked into pet health insurance?

Are just a few, there's LOTS more.
You may be able to get a thing called Care Credit:

Or even a regular credit card.

Problem is these insurances won't insure and cover this because it's something prior. Had I insured him early on in his life , like any smart person would, I would be in a much better spot for sure.

Owning dogs can be stressful, I hope it works out.
I lost my dog last year and was devestated. Got a new puppy in the fall and changed my life. Unfortunately I figured out that I accidentally poisoned him this month when I gave him Ivermectin for heart medicine. For many breeds like Aussies, they have a mutation (MDR1) that weakens the blood brain barrier and allows ivermectin to enter the brain. Now he's had tremors (like Parkinson's) ever since. Now I have to hope it clears out eventually and he doesn't have permanent damage. very stressfulFin4Ever likes this. -
Sorry for what you're going through. On the other side of this, I would keep your dog's activity level down. Some mild running is one thing, but definitely no jumping up and down on furniture, or stairs. It will worsen is condition over time. Feed him good, lean food. I fed my Bully Pinnacle's Salmon and potato.
We had to put Caesar down a few weeks ago. Very sad, very difficult, but he had a good life. My mind still plays tricks on me, my internal clock to walk him, feed him...turning the corner expecting to see him.
Best of luck with Zeus.Puka-head likes this. -
