TP is having a baby. It's the best formation the NFL has to offer these days. We'll see who they put in it, but the days of Henne having Polite-Haynos to pass to are over. Get that pass protect happy line ready. We're going for big yardage.

 

Maybe Marshall didn't play because Sparano didn't want anyone to fall in love with him and he wouldn't get to really see the other players. Bush as well.

Or it could just be injury concerns.

 

very well said Pardre this is something that I have been praying for because the over use of the run didnt get us anywhere and unlike the stubborn fans that just want to run the ball all the time this is a much needed blessing . Plus oposing defenses wont have it as easy when we use different formations and take chances.

truth is on face book dolphin fans all they want to do is run ,run, and run, so we have been doing that for 30 years and how many super bowls have one ? zilch . am I the only one who is willing to take risk and enjoy the rewards of doing smething different that could get us much better results and that is what I want it the results,

why do people care so much wheather Miami is gutsy enough to to run the wishbone or the tbone or the diamond formation or a 4 wr set and one tightend or 1 fullback I want to be the best and I want Miami to stop being a non factor in playoff talk so damn it guys I 'm not going to live forever so I want a exciting offense and a better chance to win the big game .

Also, I don't think this offense will be nearly as pass-happy as the article believes. I think the point of going pass heavy against the Falcons was to get as many live reps as possible for Henne.

 

Quick question if your run PA against a team in a dime, aren't the nickel and dime CBs in a bit of a bind because they're so critical in run containment? Wouldn't that mean Matt Moore would be a very effective QB with his ability to take off, accurately pass. If you protect him I don't think Henne lasts long with the starting job.

 

I'am just trying to figure out schematically how we can get Thomas and Bush in the backfield at the same time..I know Thomas can block, and I know they both can catch the ball....Power spread?

 

I like how a game in which the play-calling was 56% pass attempts is regarded as some sort of paradigm-shift from the previous season, in which they threw the ball 55% of the time.

That being said, I think the Dolphins strongest personnel package is their "11" lineup... 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB. There's the obvious passing-game elements, but it might be better for the run game too.

 

Why is that 111 lineup stronger than say:

Gates, Marshall on the left with Bess Hartline on the right, and Thomas in the backfield?

If anything moving Marshall inside against a nickel CB is just as advantageous against the run as Fasano is against a LB, not to mention you have a legitimate deep threat on the field with the rest of the crew there. It's a frightening lineup to face if the protection is working.

If your QB has any mobility, it's even tougher because now you have to leave a spy. That's more or less 5 receiving options that need to be covered by a double cover for Marshall, a safety over the top, and five other cover guys. Then there's a spy underneath making eight. That leaves three to rush. That's nothing.

Against the run the defense will have serious trouble leaving enough size on the field to counter Thomas up the middle.

Ronnie & Ricky ran for about 3.5 YPC out of 2 WR sets and roughly 4.9 out of 3+ WR sets FWIW.

That's why I wanted Zach Miller in a bad way---- so that if we went with only 1 TE more often to keep Bess on the field, he'd be a serious threat in the passing game while not really sacrificing in the running game.

 

It's not quite so bad to take your shots in preseason games. I wonder if it will continue into the regular season, or will Tony put the reigns back on when the score matters.

 

You've still got to run the ball, and Anthony Fasano is about as dominant a run blocking tight end as you get.

Not to mention Gates is a rookie, has a single preseason game of not particularly ground-breaking performance to go with, and you're essentially looking to go with a rookie tailback as your sole extra pass protector playing in a division with maybe the most dangerous nickel packages in the game.

This is exactly what I think as well.

 

Like Ive been saying since getting Bush...use him at flanker. Thomas in the backfield. Mismatches all over. Bush is almost a prototype flanker as he plays well in space. Your split end is typically your taller, more possession type guy. Thats where Marshall should be lining up. I would use Bush as a receiver almost exclusively save for a few Jet Sweeps out of the WC and stretch runs to the perimeter of the defense. I dont know if Daboll is that creative but Bush is a matchup nightmare if you get him outside. Hes stilla running back so he will be harder for many CB's to bring him down and everyone knows he can make you miss which is a corners worst nightmare.

 

i don't think that Sparano is conservative by nature, i think he will do whatever it takes to be aggressive, i think its a misconception..

 

i would only use him in a traditional sense only when I have to, just to keep things unpredictable.

And you motion Bush lots. Can even pre-snap motion him to a WR spot on plays for a single-back, 3WR look.

They may not line up exactly as in that diagram, but that's what I expect to see a bit of under Daboll, except the "FB" will be Thomas as a more traditional runningback who can carry, block or catch equally well.

 

Some of those rushing stats comparing 2WR vs 3WR sets are skewed by situation. Often the 3WR personnel get used on later downs (esp. 3rd) with a longer distance to go , so those 'underneath' rushing yards are a little softer to get off a defense who is willing to give up 5 on 3rd and 10, whereas the 2WR set is more often an early down or a shorter down-distance where the defense is more aggressively committed to contesting every rushing yard.

To me, the best comparison would be between 2WR vs 3WR rushing stats on 1st down plays.

 

In his limited time in the game, Misi played WOLB and Wake was SOLB. I'd say till Misi comes back, just move Ike into the starting role.

Its based on that I think he's smarter than you think about his football team, recognized the weaknesses of it, and had Ireland address those weaknesses specifically thru the draft and free agency, and, that he hired his own offensive coordinator who I don't believe is conservative by nature.
