I didn't say it, but if you catch their fantasy live show, they just gave us 10 minutes of bliss..
I'm not gonna ramble about when it comes to the superlatives they were saying about our defense, run defense in general..but it's worth a watch..
They were showing Solai just eating people..one handed double teams and sh&$..
they all said bench any running back that goes against this unit..
They did call us San Francisco lite"..

My RB situation last week was so bad I played BJGE, knowing he wasn't going do ****. I had already told my friends in other leagues not to play their RB against Miami unless they had no other option. Someone may eventually have a good game on us, but I wouldn't want to gamble that the one or two bad games was when my RB was playing.

I don't think Paul Soliai is the dominant factor of the run defense this year. He's playing well, and close to his career best, but so are several other guys.
I'm also of the opinion that this upcoming off-season you try to find a replacement for Soliai who isn't a liability in passing situations. -
-
Personally, the only 2 guys I'd want to replace Soliai with are Ngata or Utah's Star Lotulelei. Ngata's not possible and Lotulelei will likely be long gone by our first round pick.
IMO we're fine with Paul if we can add another quality corner and a situational pass rusher/OLB so that we could rush 5 more often like Houston does with Reed & Barwin. -
Soliai and Starks. I don't think there's a pair of DT's playing better then them right now.

I'm not a huge draft guy, but from what I've read and seen it looks like there are a fair amount of "big" men in the draft who are still quality pass rushers. Finding the next Haloti Ngata or Shaun Rogers would be a coup. -

Otherwise, don't create holes, we have enough already.Bpk likes this. -
Let's worry about TE, WR, CB, or even back up LB before we get to work on upgrading a key cog on a unit that has been the team's greatest strength so far this season.

It would have to be a blockbuster type offer to coax me to think about trading Soliai. He may not get a lot of pressure on the QB, but he usually eats up two blockers enough to free up someone from the outside or Stark to put pressure. Besides that, at goal line defense, he has to be a beast to get moved backward. It would make very little sense to trade him. I would rather see about drafting some more components to fill in behind him (another CB, another S, a strong pass rushing end perhaps) and leave good enough alone. Besides, getting some better components on the O would help the D keep fresh and rarin' to go!

Soliai is on a two-year deal and being given opportunity to be a more well-rounded player and not really succeeding. He's gotten more passing down snaps than run down snaps so far this year, and he's still at best just a guy in that regard and at worst a hinderance.
It shouldn't be an outright goal, but if there is an opportunity, you take it. I think the Dolphins have set themselves up for the possibility. I don't know what the opinion on the likelihood on this is but if the Dolphins are in a position like they were with Ngata with say Lotelelei or Hankins and they like him and have the ammo to go get them, that's something to consider. You've got a year with Soliai to figure out what you wanna do -
-
Consider tight end. It's not unreasonable for the Dolphins to give Clay/Egnew another year to develop. Your FA opportunities are limited, and I'm not sure what the class is like at TE. There's ample reasons why Ireland would not choose to do something there.
Alternately, there wasn't a lot of people thrilled with the Mike Pouncey pick. It wasn't a huge need, and you could have filled center through other means, but it would have meant passing up on the best player on the board -
If Baltimore offers us Ngata for Soliai straight up? Absolutely do it. But that's not happening. The guy we have is better than most guys in the league, and he's under contract. This is a silly conversation that I can't imagine a single person in the Dolphins organization has had or will have. -
Agreed completely.
The discussion isn't even warranted.
Since when do you expect to find inside runs stuffers that are also great pass rushers?
That animal is not common.
You can bring in or move some pass rushers inside on passing downs to get more chances of inside pressure.
Discarding an upper tier run defender simply to chase the dream of landing Warren Sapp 2.0 is almost negligent.MrClean and dolfan32323 like this. -
Underrated re-signing.

IMO it'd be better for us to upgrade the pass rush by adding another pass rusher rather than removing an interior guy who's pivotal to both our run success and making offenses 1 dimensional, as well as being the best run-stuffing 3rd down defense (by far) in the NFL, not to mention goal line success. It's not a fair trade off in my eyes b/c we'd be weakening the strongest aspect of our defense in order to make the other aspect only marginally better. IMO we can improve our QB pressure by adding another solid corner and one more talented pass rusher w/o sacrificing our strength at the point of attack. It's not like we're terrible at pressuring QBs BTW. Plenty of teams have a big body in the middle and can still make like tough on opposing QBs.RevRick likes this. -
Also, going by his history, he's got a habit of basically showing up to work and playing particularly well basically every other season since he started getting a significant workload.
If you can at all use the best players available to you, you pick them. It's better we get the next Haloti Ngata than the next Ted Ginn. -
Wow...Already talking about a replacement for Paul Soliai. And to think...the topic started about how dominant he has been.....WTF?

My point is you don't have to make a trade off.
You can have a guy who is as good as a run defender as Soliai is who can also rush the passer at a very high level. If you think you can find one of those, it's worth the effort.ToddPhin likes this. -
