Saints/Dolphins from last year on right now. Damn it we had them on the ropes and couldn't close the deal.:pity:

defense started out strong then folded
they looked so creative early on with the blitzing then went vanilla on us
that was pitifulGeorgia Fin likes this. -
Well, technically we won that game. The NFL stated that Sharper shouldn't have been credited with a TD on the INT and then they changed the rule about the reviews at the end of the half which we will see in about 2 minutes. Ugh. Why am I watching this?

How We Lost the Game in the 4th Quarter
Lack Of QB pressure
Dropped Passes
Penalties
Not Protecting Henne Long Enough
Lack of Playmakers on Defense
Talk About Our Whole Season -
the lack of play makers on defense was the story of our season in 2009
the defense was our main weakness -
we lost that game because the refs blew it. no if's and's or butt's about it. the refs literally gave the saints TWO TOUCH DOWNS that they never earned. we all knew it then. we all know it now.
and i think the 3rd 1/4 of that game is when we lost Will Allen for the rest of the season.
and tedd ginn dropped two touch down passes that hit his hands, in the colts game. but he also had like 8 catches and 111 yards. it was probably his best game(as a reciever) if you dont count the two kick off returns against the jets. -

I don't really blame the D. For two reasons:
1. That's a high powered Offense right there.
2. We couldn't sustain a drive on Offense in the second half. I think if we had Marshall last year that game was a win.GMJohnson likes this. -
2. there is no guarantee you win a shootout -

Fan darling Davone Bess's fumble before the half was HUGE....
But hey he was an UDFA so its ok. -

Sounds like bad D but IMO the blame for that loss should go squarely on the offense, the D played their @sses off. The 24-3 lead was primarily b/c of Culver's INT return to the plus 5 yd line and Torbor's pick at the plus 19 yd line. The only scoring drive generated by the O was the toss R for 68 yds by Ricky. The 3 points allowed was off of a 85 yd KR, props to Vontae for saving the TD.
24-3 and driving for more till Bess fumbles which led to a TD, and then Ginn throws his skirt up, drops the ball and thats another TD. 24-17. After that was the 3 and out parade. Second half possesions :
3 plays for -1 yds INT ret for TD
3 plays for 2 yds PUNT
3 plays for -9 yds PUNT
3 PLAYS for 0 yds FG
3 plays for 71 yds TD
3 plays for 0 yds PUNT
3 plays for 0 yds PUNT
8 plays for 21 yds INT return for TD
10 plays for 52 yds End of Game
To say the offense did nothing in the second half would be too kind, they actually went out of thier way to make sure we lost. We couldve had the 85 Bears D and it wouldnt have mattered. Fatigue set in, and the Saints were the more talented team to begin with, as we saw later on in the season. I still like the way they battled out there though. 5 forced turnovers, 3 of which occured in the opponents red zone, leading to 17 gimme points, and another one in our EZ to prevent a TD.
IMO the Nawlins game ranks in the top 3 performaces by the D all year (Jax & @ NYJ), I cant imagine how anyone who watched the game closely could think the defense was the weak link out there. Subtract the 1st 3 points off the KR, the 2 defensive TDs by Shaper and Porter, and the TD before the half off Bess' fumble and the Saints offense scored 21 points. Thats nothing to be ashamed of, esecially considering the competition.
The O didnt sustain a drive ALL GAME LONG. There was the Ricky run, and the big play to Hartline, and thats it from the offense. The rest of the scoring came from the defense creating TOs deep in Saints territory. Where was the ball control offense we'd seen vs Indy, Buff and NYJ? The Saints blitzed on just about every single snap in the 2nd half, and they showed the blitzes early. Dared us to throw the ball, and hit us for losses when we tried to run it anyway. They shut down the WC with corner blitzes, they shut down everything. Its embarassing when an NFL team cant make plays when the opposing defense is telegraphing thier defensive calls on every snap. I didnt like the play calling in general (screen pass anyone) and of course this game featured 2 of Henning's Top 5 worst play calls of the season. 3rd and 14, trailing late in the 4th, oppsosing D has blitzed you to death for 2 qtrs so you go I formation, play action pass? FAIL. 4th and 14, I formation, play-action pass again. Pick 6. EPIC FAIL. I mean seriously, the down and distance dictated it would have to be a pass, and we hadnt had a succesfull running play since the 2nd quarter. If it wasnt for Henning's brain fart @ Buffalo, the 2 play action calls wouldve been 1 and 2 in my book for sure.and MrClean like this. -
