I read this over at FH...(I think..)...in regards to something Omar Kelly said. This regime does not have the time to develop a round 1 QB..with any hopes of staying employed.
They are going to have to find a VET QB to hold the fort down and win with until the youngster gets his feet under him.
So, my question is two fold:
What does Sparano and Ireland need to do in 2011 in order to be back in 2012? Do we need to make the playoffs? Are they given the flexibility usually given to a rebuilding team?
Im not sure they have alot of rope to work with here....so the decision on who in fact they decide to QB this team next season...is by far...the most critical decision facing this staff.
Which QB out there potentially gives them the best chance to fulfill the requirements in the first question.
I know Seattle has talked about resigning Hasselbeck...but he seems to be the type of QB that would work well here....we could win with him, and then he could pass the torch....

I think you have to wait until we sign a OC to see who fits the system.
But don't be surprised if its Henne, because I don't see a vet that will be much better.Hellion, Shamboubou, MikeHoncho and 3 others like this. -

After reading Sparano's comments on his study of plays greater then 30 yards....I think he might be thinking Thigpen not Henne.

If I'm John Fox in Denver, I'm not trading Orton and starting Tebow. -

I believe Miami will bring in a veteran QB or two. Sparano has to think playoff of layoff. Not sure he wants to base that on the play of #7 again next year. Would you want your job to rest on the hopes that Henne doesn't lay another egg in 2011?
I would not be surprised to see Vince Young given a shot. Dysfunctional Divas are almost always on their best behavior in year 1 when it is the honeymoon period. They just don't know how to make it work over the long haul. But with Sparano's job on the line don't be surprised if he goes for a quick fix over a long-term solution. -

I could see them looking towards Young. His NFL career is something like 30-17? He has a TON of upside and could be a great improvement in the position. Dude can play good ball when he's got his head on straight
I personally wouldn't waste a 1st on any of the qb's this year.....that said I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Newton if he's there and we haven't traded picks. Young doesn't pan out then we shoot for Luck next year!! -
All of the above=LONG OFF SEASON!

Boomer suggested something that made my head spin, while everyone looks to see who Denver keeps between Orton and Tebow, we forget about Quinn who will be odd man out. Would it be possible he would even be considered? Just can't see it after its all said and done but this has already became one crazy offseason.

Going back to the OP, why is it that most believe Jeff is tied to Tony? I don't believe that for one second! I think Jeff will pick a QB he thinks most capable of secceeding. I also think new OC and QB coach will carry great weight in this process.

The Fins will look to every avenue to find a QB. They will look to the draft, free agency (if it happens), and trade. They will identify the best QB available between all three areas. If that player is in the draft so be it. Get a conviction about that QB and go hard after him.
I believe that if they do draft a QB, and he plays well while showing promise, that will be enough to keep Sparano and Ireland even if they have another mediocre season. Just look at Sam Bradford and the Rams. They went 7-9, but things are feeling really positive because they know that they have a QB that will take them places. Same thing can happen here. Hope sells tickets too. -
I think they bring in a Vet and draft a 3rd round QB prospect and let them battle it out, don't be surprised if Henne is the QB next year.

I think it is obvious that the Dolphins are going to try and bring in a veteran QB to run the offense next year. There is no way Sparano is going to risk his job again by putting the offense in the hands of Henne.
In fact I think it is very likely that Henne will no longer be on the Dolphins beyond next season. If the Dolphins could get at least a fourth or fifth round draft pick for Henne, I think they would be happy to take the pick and get rid of Henne right now. Unfortunately I doubt if any other team in the NFL would offer Miami anything higher than a sixth round pick for Henne. So Henne will probably still be on the team next year as a backup and the Dolphins starting QB will be one of the veteran QB's who are now on the open market. It appears to me that the Dolphins will still be looking for their long term answer at QB even after next season. -
Do we really expect Sparano and Ireland to alter their program in any way, to quick fix the offense just to save their necks?
If so, it certainly wouldn't be reflective in any way of the manner they've been schooled.
If any shift in their decision making to such an effect, is percieved in the slightest, the potential consequences could be far worse, than merely sucking another season, and getting fired, due to the fact they wern't allowed enough time to properly install an offense.
That isn't to suggest they wouldn't be weighing their options privately, but jeopardizing the future of a franchise, merely to save one's skin, certainly doesn't bode well for any prospective future in the sport. -
These clowns wouldn't even know how to begin developing a QB. They already whiffed on two 2nd round picks at QB, I have no faith that they would get one right in the 1st. Just let these stooges do what they do best, and that's continue to build around cornfed lineman.

I'm hoping that Matt Hassleback becomes available. He's be the perfect stop gap.
Edit: Actually I take that back, he's been pretty horrible the last 2 years. I've not watched must Seahawk football and only saw them in the playoffs this year.
