I completely agree. It doesnt matter who else we have on Offense, until we invest in some quality OLmen, we will never exceed mediocrity. If we dont address this, which I finally think we will now do with the current management, we will also have to invest in a QB and RB most every draft. Can you imagine how much longer the careers of those two positions would be if they werent getting DRILLED most every play. Brady and Farve almost never get hit in comparison to what ours go through. Ronnie would be able to get past the LOS before getting popped. What a concept. Please Please Please, fix the OL.

This OL played well until Ronnie Brown went down. There were holes to run and time to throw. When our best offensive player left, the line regressed and it regressed further when Lekkerker replaced the veteran LG Liwienski.

We have some young talent on the OL that needs to stay together and play together.

I hear and feel you on keeping with it. Did this organizaiotn under Mule/Saban and Mule/Cam lose patience too early on in the development of the lines; Yes.

But, its not just patience or investing or lack of investing it also is a case whether or not we invested in the right players or if the football gods engineered fate to work against our investments. Satele looks like the right fit for an investment. And investing also means FA as well as draft picks. Was Shelton a wise investment? Is Carey just a good lineman or a franchise lineman? We should both the answer to that; good enough to keep but he ain't a world beater either.

And investments won't get a good return if they don't see the field! Toledo has become an injury machine and Mormino started off with injury. Bad luck or brittle bones but the fact is bad fortune beyond anyone's control can ruin stock/bonds, real estate investments in the real world and player investments in the football world.

 

It all starts there! If we can control the ball, it will take pressure off the Defense. Fixing the D line is a priority, but fixing the O line will reap quicker, more lasting benefits. :ffic:

 

You may be touching on something there Osaban namely, the guys we have drafted, Toledo, Alabi, Mormino, have done nothing since they have been here, they are black holes on the roster at the moment, and Alabi and Toledo are going into their 3rd year with us.

One of the first priorities once we hire a HC and offensive staff is evaluating our roster for prospects and suspects, then making a coherent plan to deal with the issues.

For me, Toledo and Alabi have one foot on the banana peel and are heading toward the exit.

Mormino, is interesting, if he could play Center, we could move Satele to LG, giving us a powerful side to run the ball too.

Anyway we slice it up, the Saban drafts are looking almost as bad as the Wanny drafts.

 

How much do you want, Rev? How about a whole team of O-lineman? Let's ignore the non existent WR's, TE's, LB's DT's CB's and every other position because the platitiude that "it all revolves around the offensive line" has been the mantra of the ignorant Dolphin fan since finheaven made its first appearance.

Please ignore the FACT that when Miami has their feature back healthy or a QB who gets rid of the ball on time, nobody says a word about the O-line. Kinda tough to run or pass block when the other defense doesn't respect any of your skill position players.

So the whole first day of the draft should go O-line? You guys are clueless. The line needs continuity not a constant influx of new players every year. It'll never be enough for you O-line or die crowd.

Look at our defense and our O-line and if you tell me the Line needs more work and attention you should be rooting for a baseball team somewhere

I think a lot of people felt we could use upgrades over Shelton and Lewinski even when the o-ine was playing well. But I do agree with you that most of the problems have been a lack of continuity.

That said, if someone like Chris Willaims, Chilo Rachel, or by some miracle Ryan Clady are there at 32 (well in Clady's case 32, maybe Williams, but Rachel is more likely at 60) I think you've got to seriously consider them.

 

I'd have a hard time taking Clady over a defender or Fred Davis with a better or equal grade. I hope that Flozell Adams makes it a non-issue

 

Clady or Williams you might have to make an exception for though. If the Seahawks don't take Davis he'll fall fairly or unfairly.

 

We have 3 solid young guys(Carey,Satele and Hadnot) and 3 other young guys(Toledo,Mormino and Alibi)who need to prove they can stay healthy...hard to count on Toledo and Alibi but Mormino could make it....I see us getting a free agent and maybe drafting 1 more guy.

This defense is so bad that there's no such thing as taking pressure off them until we get better players in all three units-DL, LB and DB. Miami has maybe 2 or 3 young players that look like keepers on an 11 player unit.

How many players need to/should be replaced on our 5 player OL? 1 or 2

 

I know what you mean, and ideally; I'm hoping Chris Williams is there at #32, that would be perfect.

Our O-line does need continuity, but in retrospect; our line was the only thing that stayed intact the whole season (except the LG position.) No one else missed any time.

The only thing I have to say about this issue is our best two linemen are Vernon Carey and Samson Satele; and where were they drafted? Rounds one and two. Coincidence....I think not.

Right now we do have a lot of holes to address, I didn't realize how bad off our team is until I saw that disturbing stat during our last game about how many players are still on our roster from the 1999 - 2003 drafts, and the answer was one. I decided to look more closely at our roster and I have to agree we have the WORST roster in the NFL. I just can't believe how badly our front office has screwed up this team during this century. :(

The position that is in most dire need of upgrading is the LBs. Outside of our starters which is an aging group (except Crowder), we have mostly undrafted free agents as our backups. :mad:

 

There is something to be said about taking o-line in this draft. The guards are the weak spot on the team. However taking a tackle imrpoves at least two spots on the o-line for next season. If we get a guy who can play right tackle we can slot Shelton into RG and improve both spots. If we somehow got a guy who can play LT better than Carey we slot Carey back in at RT and Shelton in at RG improving three spots with one acquisition. For a team as bad as we are that is a very valuable pick up,

 

Please all you have to do is watch NE. You think it's the WR's that made NE this year? Hell no. It's that OL that has always been pretty good becoming legendary. You give any QB the protection Brady has and he's going to have an awesome year. Hell half the sacks Brady takes are because he's held onto the ball 6-7 seconds or more.
