I know that the Defense didn't show up today, and Sean Smith didn't show up at all. That's a whole different topic and I want to talk about the offense. There are three different games where the offense has gotten the opportunity to either close out the opponent or in case of this game, go down and win. The first game was the against the Jets. We drove down during regulation and had the shot to win the game during regulation. Bad play calling and not utilizing the middle of the field cost us. It happened again in overtime that game...We drove down and decided not to use the middle of the field. We threw two deep routes to hartline instead of getting closer near the sidelines.
Enter the Arizona game. We had the shot again to end it and put it away on offense. Instead we stalled out at midfield and had to punt. The defense crumbled and sent us to overtime where we lost. Call it play calling again or whatever, offense just didn't get it done.
And then today. Defense did not show up but they did give us an opportunity at the end of the game to drive down and tie/win the game. Again, at midfield...we stall out. We could have utilized more of the middle of the field and we just didn't. There have been three games now where the offense could have decided the fate of the game and just flat out failed. Offense is going to need to win one of these games late and not always try to rely on the defense which is susceptible. I know the defense didn't show up, but the offense hasn't proved that they can go down and win a game yet.

not sure why anyone is surprised. we lack weapons, plain and simple.

We expected this from the offense.
I don't expect a rookie QB to be able to do these things yet. Especially with minimal running game. We're getting about x10 more out of RT than we expected. He played a very clean game today which should've been enough for the win.
I'm very upset over this game because our Defense showed the troubles it may have against quality passing offenses. But on the other hand, Ryan Tannehill has played his 4th game in a row where he has not thrown an INT. He's way ahead of the curve, and WAYYY ahead of where just about anyone thought he would be. The 4th quarter come from behind drives will come. I'm not worried about that yet. And I won't worry about them until 2014 (his 3rd year).
Just look at the progress in the past 5 weeks............We get to watch this kid progress for the next 10-15 years. This is the best silver lining you could imagine. He's made more progress in these 5 weeks than Henne, Feeley, or Fiedler made over 5 years.jsizzle, MAFishFan, Sumlit and 1 other person like this. -

I'm not so sure it has as much to do with the lack of weapons as it has to do with having an inexperienced rookie QB and an inconsistent running game.
This is a game I expect to win once Tannehill gains experience. But for now, I don't expect him to overcome the Defensive deficiencies. He's not Eli Manning, Tom Brady, or Aaron Rodgers. He shouldn't be expected to do that yet.
I'm still very upset. But I stepped back and put things into perspective. The guy is starting his 8th game. Let's think back to when these guys were rookies: Brady (backup), Eli (sucked), Peyton (would've thrown 3 picks and lost by 2 TDs), Big Ben (threw the ball 12 times a game), Rodgers(backup), Rivers(backup), etc. Matt Ryan was at, or even below the level as a rookie as Tannehill is now. Same goes for Flacco. Both were more in the realm of what Big Ben was trying to do as a rookie. Basically throw only when you need to and run the ball 40 times a game.
So basically, none of those aformentioned QBs were even remotely at the level where they were expected or even accomplished bringing their teams from behind in the 4th quarter in their rookie seasons.MAFishFan likes this. -
What he^^^^^ said -
My point was: Tannehill should not be expected to coordinator an offense to come from behind late in the 4th Quarter. This is simply an unrealistic expectation for a rookie QB in his 8th game. And I just proved why it is unrealistic by listing the league's top QBs, and where they were in their rookie seasons and how they were also not expected to lead 4th quarter comebacks. Nor did any of them really accomplish them. -

I really believe the Dolphins picked the wrong guy to try to make an example of after the nightclub incident.
All Brandon has done since is dominate. -
I think Brandon Marshall is only right in an offense with either an already established QB or a QB with a bigger ego than Brandon Marshall. Jay Cutler is that guy. Ryan Tannehill is not. -

I don't want a QB who lets a WR dictate what he does. That's weak sauce and you don't want weak sauce being your franchise QB. -
And a Brandon Marshall type coming into this team in 2 or 3 years.....cool. RT will probably be ready to deal with the nonsense by then. But in your rookie year, a Brandon Marshall type, to me, will just stunt QB progress and development.MAFishFan likes this. -
Our team is filled with plenty of blue collar player, but talent continues to remain thin at the skill positions. Talented skill position players are the ones who decide close game, and make winning drives/plays.
We're seeing a bit of an upward trend in this regard, but there is still a lot to be done. -

Offense reminds me a lot of Atlanta's prior to adding Gonzalez.
Hartline is on pace for 1,300 yds, Bess will probably come close to 1k yds, but we lack that game breaker.
Killed me today when were inside their 20 yd line and did not throw a single pass into the endzone.Bpk likes this. -

This new coaching staff has worked wonders this year with what we have up to this point. -
TBH, think we could use a couple of Cb's as well. -

We can use another, long term, Wr, but think we should draft one rather then the usual Dolfan quick fix.
