Time 7 pm
Tv Coverage: Tape delay at 11:30 pm
Radio coverage: 940 winz/MiamiDolphins.com
Key players:
Several bubble players for the Dolphins, from Will Allen to Phillp Livas will have their shot at making an impact here or elsewhere, and I'll toss in the Devlin/OConnell 3rd Qb battle, this will be the closest O'Connell has come to making an active gameday roster consistently, and rumor had it Irish loved Devlin's accuracy and ball placement.
Announcers: Bob Griese, Nat Moore, Dick Stockton, suffice it to say there will not be a bottle of Bombay Sapphire left at the nearby liquor store once this crew rolls out of town
Season kicks off the September 12th, to me I think Marc Colombo and Vern Carey should play most of the evening with the long layoff after the game, and they need the work.
My guys to watch:
Phil Livas, the talent needs to show up
Quinton Spears, he should have plenty of run time, he can rush the passer
Larry Johnson, he figures to have plenty of playing time as well, maybe the vet's last real shot to cement his place on the roster
Cowboys secondary is suspect, but Rob Ryan also figures to send full house blitzes to see which of his longshots can offer something in sub pacakages.

Against a defensive scheme such as that though, long runs can easily happen, make one man miss and off to the races.
But still suspect this will be a night for the Wr's and #2-#4 Te's catching the ball. -
Ive found some streams that may work? I say may they very reliable people but you need stream torrent. Ive used the program for yrs i have no issues but i do keep up on my virus software.

I don't know why but for some reason I would like to see this L Johnson have a surprise for us and slam out a great season. -

If we don't see much of Merling it could mean a trade is in the offing.

If we do see him though it could also mean they are still showcasing him , to confirm a price or have it increase. Merling has had a bounce back imo and if he isn't traded , he won't be cut as I see it. It will come down to value offered I believe.
As always, looking forward to tonight , more to see the bottom end of the roster players tonight though. -

Tonight one of the things I am most interested in is the Wallace , Moore and Livas competition.
As it looks now only one will make the squad and they all have had their moments. Unless Livas splashes and flashes I don't see how he gets a roster spot. Outside of game one he hasn't looked close to breaking a return and hard to see a roster spot taken by a player who hasn't played outside of returns unles he was more of a constant threat returning kicks and punts. Right now , he looks like a prime PS player , where he can perhaps develop some base offense skills for next year or beyond.
So , to me it looks like a head to head battle tonight for Wallace and Moore. I really like the potential for both these players , I really do. I don't see Miami keeping 6 WR's however it is possible if they don't keep a true FB ( Polite ) and use Clay as a player that can do some of FB duties , some TE duties and as H Back as well.
I know it is an '' if '' , however if Moore had not had that big drop he would likely be the odds on favourite to make the squad , while you can't dismiss the drop you can view it as he got open and was in a position to make a big play. He's done some really nice things in the games . Kind of see some Anthony Armstrong similarities here and I really feel he will be a rostered NFL player either this year or next and has the ability to be more than that. Comments are that he is behind Wallace as special team player , and while that may be , I don't necessarily believe he can't provide solid if not better special teams contributions. He has made some tackles and he has "quicks" .
Wallace has such desirable physical attributes that it is hard to ignore that. Size , speed , natural athlete and as mentioned he does provide positive special teams contributions as well. Pairing Wallace with Marshall in red zone packages surely would be a productive way to turn fist pumps into TD's. Like to see him featured to see how he performs , first downs , third downs , red zone plays.
Not saying it will happen or even that it should , but I can see both these players being better than Hartline in the not too distant future. I really don't think Hartline would have much value trade wise alone , however pairing him with say Merling would give a team 2 solid players that can contribute. Not likely to happen , but a thought.
I hope Moore and Wallace get lots of targets , are on all coverage teams and I think they will be. It is one of the battles I will be watching and then rewatching .padre31 likes this. -
Oh, back to football, Channing C mentioned that there are probably 5 roster slots open with 9 guys competing for them. -
The wildcard to me with Livas boils down to how badly Darren Rizzi wants him as "his guy", if he bangs the table for SNL then he will make the squad, if not, then we see Bess and Gates on returns and really should not expect much out of the return game. To me you keep Livas simply because, as Sparano said in his speech, that he wants to attack in all phases of the game, Bess doesn't attack anyone on punt returns, and Gates, tbh, is stiff as the tin man as a returner, similar to Ginn but without Ginn's long speed imvho. -
Livas is the wild card. I would very much like to keep him but, he faces an uphill battle as all he can do is return kicks. If not for the rule change on KO's, his chances would be much better. -

Gates isn't , or certainly doesn't look comfortable or natural in the return game , MM shows some traits as being able to return punts , has he done that at all at any point? You only keep Livas if he shows something tonight , he doesn't need a TD , but if he shows what he did on the returns before the TD works for me , he is decisive but I want to see that in a stronger way tonight , as you said attack get up to speed as quick as you can and then cut back as needed or make people miss.
Side note , no game stream tonight then ? -

I don't think they make the choice of Wallace or MM over Hartline , but I think they don't because it would require making a bold move , rather than it being the wrong one , imo. -

Lots of speculation as to be expected on forums , but I would not be displeased to have both Moore and Wallace and to not cut , but use Hartline to get something in return . Not likely , I know , but Hartline and Merling should warrant something decent in return from a team needed a solid rotational Dlineman and a 3rd or 4th WR.
I want to see these 3 touch the ball a lot tonight , I think performance tonight sways the decision on these 3. -
I just hope they dont cut Wallace. TBH, as big of a fan as I am of Lil Beast, I think MM is the better WR of the two. However, from what I have seen it looks like Wallace is learning pretty quickly and seems to have more control of his body than he did last year. If we have to keep one, I am rooting for Wallace.

Here's a question re: Wallace/Moore/Livas... Is Gates a lock to make the squad? Truthfully, he could use more seasoning, but do we risk putting that type of speed on our PS?
Say Livas shows up a lot tonight in the return game, I've seen enough of Moore & Wallace (with their year of experience here) to justify keeping both. Perhaps Gates is the odd man out? Regardless, I like the depth at WR. Haven't had that in a while. -

He has shown he has more game than just stretching the field and that has been terrific to see. When the deep game hits and believe it will , maybe even tonight , it will add a much needed element to Miami's game. -
Moore will likely make it too. Wallace though hasn't shown enough to stick around. Livas will likely make it as well. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the backup pure TEs make it.

I suspect Sparano and Irish still buy into prototypes at positions.
Which is sort of Livas's problem, he does not really mimic anyone we have, and he has yet to be targeted in the base offense to show what he can do, Sparano has been tiiiight with the playing time this preseason, he has said only guys he knows will play for us in 2011 will see much playing time, so for Livas it is sort of now or never time on returns.
Another guy I have my eye on is Ike Francis, suspect he will have a good game tonight. -
