it was a stupid play by camarillo but i dont fault him...there was more than 2 minutes left, we werent that desperate to get out of bounds yet.

 

honestly that wouldn't have created a win. The Defense collapsed..The Offense disappeared. I think it was a legit call as well.

 

He really should've just kept up with what he initially tried to do, and went after the 1st down.

Why are you explaining a backwards pass when it was ruled an ILLEGAL FORWARD PASS. I'm confused.

 

Considering he could have picked up more yards if he turned it up field. Him trying to make the sideline was like watching a snail cross to the other side of the sidewalk.

Because it wasn't forward, and it wasn't the right call. I believe if you pass it backwards out of bounds that the ball goes where it went out, and the clock still runs but I could be wrong.

 

He should have at least dove forward towards the 1st down marker, it was a stupid desicion on his part.

There was not a Dolphin player anywhere near where he was "passing it sideways so it would be considered backwards by rule" There was no doubt he was trying to get out of bounds and threw it that way. He would have a better case stating that was he was stumbling he actually fumbled it. He would not have gotten away with it but it was at least not as boneheaded as what happened.

But as said earlier, I don't even know why he was so desperate to get out of bounds. We needed the extra yard or two he could have gotten. If I recall correctly he had already gotten a first down and if we need to stop the clock the spike play would have been the way to go.

 

because according to that rule he just cited, if it's not a forward pass, then it's a backwards pass. A lateral is considered a backwards pass.
He tossed the ball out of bounds parallel to the line of scrimmage making it a lateral (or backwards ) pass - according to that rule the OP cited.
An illegal forward pass is just that; a forward pass past the line of scrimmage.

 

It was ruled forwards even though the ball goes forwards for a reason. It's because he EXTENDED HIS ARMS FORWARDS and the ball went FORWARDS AS COMPARED TO HIS BODY.

The call was correct, sorry.

 

It was not the right call. Are you guys blind? Watch the video. The ball is moving backwards as it goes toward the sideline. IN no way, shape, or form is that a forward pass. Its not even a pass. It's a lateral or fumble.

From where the ball leaves his hands to where it goes out of bounds, it is very clearly goes backwards or parallel at the very least. I'm not sure if what Cam did was legal or not, but it most certainly wasn't a forward pass of any sort.

He should have just turned upfield, we had plenty of time. Lots of mental errors on that drive, I'd rank this one third behind Ricky's drop and Ginn's drop in that order. Can't hate too much on Ricky since he put up 21 points for us, but Ginn? Pathetic.

 

Gish you are missing the point. YES the ball went lateral as compared to where it left his hand. That is NOT how the play is ruled. His arm went forwards as compared to his body, making it a FORWARD pass.

That is not right in any way.

 

He made a forward passing motion with his arms. That is why they ruled it a forward pass. Period. It's the EXACT same way the tuck rule/empty handed QB play works. The arm moves forward and the ball comes out it is a forward pass.

no, you're wrong. if youre facing backwards and you throw the ball the direction you're facing, ITS A BACKWARDS PASS. It's not a forward pass just because you were facing that way. It has nothing to do with what direction youre facing. The only thing that matters is whether the ball traveled forward in relation to the field. If the ball moves closer to the endzone after it leaves your hand, its a forward pass. If it moves further from the endzone after leaving your hand, its a backward pass. Not rocket science.

 

inside 2 minutes you cant fumble forwards. they mark the ball where it was fumbled. it wasnt forward anyway, so it doesnt matter. plus it wasnt in side of 2 minutes.

The official right there threw his bean bag, which means fumble. He got overruled.

I do believe there is a rule about throwing the ball out of bounds on purpose though.

The officials didn't screw us in any way, people that blame the officials for losing a game are idiots.

The bad call on Bess' fumble was a lot more costly....it allowed the game to get closer and was the first step that led us into the no win situation of a shootout with Drew Brees

 

Agreed. I thought it was against the rules to Intentionally fumble which is what cam did. In fast speed it looked like the right call. It seems they called a Penalty based off what Cam was trying to do.

 

I have no problem with Cam being flagged for that. I actually called Cam a @#$#$%$*&^ when he did that. Ask my dogs, they know what @#$#$%$*&^ means:shifty:

 

Not sure if I'm an idiot but the refs cost us 14 points. If they make the right call at the end of the first half time expires. #2 on the pick 6 Ginn comes back and forces the fumble at the 1 for a touch back. Camera angle shows this at about 90% so it can't be overturned due to not enough cameras at the game. If it was called a touch back it would have held up. There is 14 points we got screwed with

 

So a lateral or backward screen pass that isn't caught by the receiver would not be considered a fumble?.

 

IT'S A PENALTY TO THROW THE BALL OUT OF BOUNDS LIKE THAT.

It doesn't matter which direction it goes in. A player can't just throw a ball out of bounds to stop the clock. That is against the rules. That's why we were penalized.
