From my understanding physically he like's QB's that are big in the 6-3 to 6-5 range
that have strong arms think Phil Simms or Vinny Testaverde.

However mentally he wants a very strong minded QB he wants a leader...I recall reading a book by Parcells in which he spoke very highly of Ray Lucas former Jets & Dolphins QB,Parcells said he could see Lucas being president of the US some day he was such a leader.

To sum it up Big,strong armed leaders would be a "Parcells QB"

As for John Beck physically he's a bit short..arm strength ? unsure leadership thats another unknown I didnt see him inspired his teammates but honestly what can we as fans see from our perspective?

Beck might not have the height, but he has a strong and accurate arm and he can be a leader. Take a look at his college games, the kid can be a leader. John didn't have the talent around him this year to really show what he is capable of, not to mention that the offense was kind of bland when he was in there. Whether that was due to Beck not being ready or Cam was overextended with HC and OC duties, I don't know, but I expect him to be better next year with more experience and hopefully a better surrounding cast.

 

Not to be the voice of dissention - but Beck isn't tiny. He's almost exactly the same size as Phil Simms. I doubt that his being 6'2" instead of 6'3" will wiehg that heavily in Parcells' mind.

 

John Beck has no questions when it comes to arm strength and Phil Simms was the same size and I don't think anyone would say he had a huge arm. Simms was a great leader and game manager. People saying we're going to draft a qb early simply don't like John Beck despite the fact he was set to fail by the past regime.

 

Romo is 6-2, 224. Beck is 6-2, 216.

 

I think Beck should and will get his chance to start next season....I just don't see who else they're gonna bring in here that's not over the hill, cost too much or is a rookie.

Perfectly stated although he is willing to go outside his preferences if the QB can show something special. Pennington's accuracy, Romo's improvisational abilities. Bottom line the one trait you absolutely have to have is strong leadership qualities and a strong mind. That comes first with Parcells, next is the physical attributes. If he can get both you become his guy.

 

Adam can you HONESTLY tell me 4 games is enough to say Beck doesn't have those qualities after 4 games. If you think you can you're lying to yourself. Lets look at the facts. What did he really have going for him? Do we have a go to TE or a consistant wr corp? A consistant running game? Good pass production? A functional offense at any time this season? We averaged 16 points a game. Sure Lemon looked better. He had 4 years to learn that offense. If you don't think Parcells is aware the deck was stacked against him you're crazy. Parcells himself is quoted as saying he is against starting young qbs expecially when there isn't enough talent around them. I'm not saying Beck is going to be great but there in no way you can he isn't. Very few qbs step in and have great or even good success. The opposite is the norm?

 

No QB will perfectly fit a coaches philosophy. If so then their would be 16 Peyton Mannings and 16 Tom Brady's. It's not about a Qb who'll fit it's more about getting a good Qb. I don't believe an assessment can be made on Beck or any rookie Qb. If the Tuna and the staff believes Beck is the future then I doubt a Qb is taken on the 1st day. If they're not sold on him then I think they take one.

My opinion of Qb play is that their are alot of talented Qb's. Though I think that of anything the play of Qb's has dwindled more than any position in the NFL really since i've started watching the NFL. It's all about getting a guy who knows his strengths but still can make throws unlike Pennington; though is smart enough to know what to do.

As Dolphin fans I think alot of us want to see a guy be Marino in his 1st year which is ridiculous. Which is why, myself included we're so easy to give up on a guy who doesn't have success early.

 

No. I have said repeatedly that its too early for a fan like me to make a determination on Beck. It is not too early for a GM, coach or Parcells. They will have far more information on Beck than me. I have also never said that Beck is guaranteed to be a bust. I have said that I personally dont see the qualitites of a premier starting QB at this stage and think he may end up being a backup in the NFL. But I have conceded on many occasions that he could turn into Drew Brees. I do think that his learning curve will be far longer than we had all hoped. I now think he's not going to turn the corner for at least two or three years

I also say he is not a Parcells QB. This I'm pretty sure of. He simply doesnt strike me as having the personality or body that Parcells is looking for. If he has the personality he'll be given a chance. If he doesnt have the personality he wont. Its all my opinion but I feel pretty confident I know what Parcells looks for. Growing up in New York my whole football philosophy is based on two coaches, Don Shula and Bill Parcells. Maybe Ive misread Parcells but we'll see.

The other thing Ive said is Ryan is a Parcells QB. Big, intelligent, a leader and not easily rattled. I also think that Ryan has much higher upside than Beck

 

I think, more than anything else, Parcells wants someone who isn't going to lose the game with mental mistakes and breakdowns. Of course he wants a big, strong armed QB. Who doesn't? But Beck being 6' 2" is plenty big enough. The only thing we need to be aware of his is his shortened learning curve because of his age. Does Parcells and Co. want to wait 2 or 3 years for Beck to reach his potential, only to see him turning 30 already?

 

Sure hope he's revised that sentiment.

 

I for one don't think your far off the mark Adam and i was around long before Marino ever came to town..., Simms... Elway... Montana... you can win without these kinds of guys but let's face it we all thought Marino would be back to the Superbowl and we should have but never did...

You need a field general..., and if you ain't it you are gone... BP doesn't seem to care if your feelings are hurt..., ready or not..., Beck's posture has never been get me in there coachj I'm ready to go when called upon..., no sir..., he was set up for failure (Captain Lou)..., and quite possibly set up for future failures..., time will tell...

The BRASS will know more about Becks resolve..., Ireland sounded polite saying he was high on Beck prior to the draft..., I mean really is he supposed to say anything less...? Come on..., Beck could be developed over two-three years and shipped like Feelme for a second rounder... (not likely) but we'll wait to see on this one..., Beck is a year or two behind from what we saw..., yes four games..., but from his body of work (in practice and meetings) suggests he couldn't unseat Lemon... That is the fact...

Beck was not supposed to see the field this year (CamRam) and they set the guy up from the start..., I for one feel bad for the guy because had they to9ld him look you had better be ready..., he may have been but he was like reluctant even in the media..., and everyone called Beck a teamplayer because he was showing respect for Green and Lemon but I'm sorry that's not what I'm looking for in a Field General - show me some Jam -Moxie... I mean anything but deer in the head-lights...
