There are ways to negate having a bad LT. There are plenty of successful teams with bad tackles. If the Dolphins can field a good RG, then overall the OL would still be decent, even with Martin.

Tinkering with the OL in the middle of the season would make things alot worse.
You have to ride this out, good or bad.

Resigning deuche bag Long was plan A and he screwed them.

Martin looked good and bad at times last season. He was and is their fall back option. They could of drafted someone or offered more in FA but they are confident going forward with Martin. We are 1 week into camp, lets see how it plays out before second guessing their choice.

 

Having a defense that disrupts everything the offense is attempting to do isn't a negative at this point. :up:

 

No clue where I saw it, but someone posted a few videos a few months ago of us helping Long with an extra blocker ... semi often if I remember correctly. If Martin is struggling they will adjust similarly

 

Plan b?? A this point it would be Dallas Thomas, Will Yeatman, Jeff Adams, and Andrew McDonald, lets hope one jumps up and excels in preseason games..

 

Let's wait until after this Sunday.

I want to see him against another team's players for a minute before getting too worried.

For the record, I am not bullish on Martin, but want to see what happens first.

What's plan B for everyone who's worrying about Martin when Martin shpws he's improved and plays decently?

Long was slow and lumbered. Never had the hips. Mediocre footwork.
Killed by speed rushers.

 

Some of those include having a quick passing offense or a focus on running. I expect that's exactly what we'll do this year regardless of how good Martin is. IMO even if Martin is no better than he was last year, it wouldn't be the end of the world. And I expect that he'll likely be at least a little improved. That should get him to about what we got from Long last year. I don't think the LT position is as vital as it used to be. I think it's more important to be strong up the middle, particularly for the offense we'll be running.

I think Stringer is right.

There's no Plan B, and if Martin is as bad as it seems then it will cost the Dolphins a game or two. And if the Dolphins were an 8-8 team otherwise that means they end up a 7-9 team or perhaps even a 6-10 team. So yeah, that's pretty costly if Martin turns out to be bad.

But let's not pretend just the left tackle turns us into a 4-12 team or something. The Dolphins won 11 games with Spencer Folau at left tackle. It CAN be overcome.

 

Hell yeah, Defense rocks...real freakin young, real fast, hungry, all they need is a fanbase that's willing to stand and cheer when they take the field.

 

Long was slow footed and beaten regularly by speed rushers. If Martin is just a bit stronger and can anchor better against the bull rush, his level of pass pro will equal what Long provided last year.

 

If you're concerned about Martin not being up to par this season why would you want to give some of his valuable developmental reps away? Don't you think he needs all the reps he can get to help solidify his game?

To me the Dolphins already did that by signing Tyson Clabo. That's the position Martin needs to be getting all his reps at to get him as solid as possible.

Let's put it this way. For months I've had offensive tackle penciled in as the position the Dolphins will target in the 1st round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

 

Eh, having hung around all things Dolphins for awhile now, usually the reasons for concern now remain reasons for concern through the first 7 games that count...then things are ironed out.

And of course it's to late to make a playoff push.

Not down on Martin, do think he needs to iron himself out quick, or demote him and give someone else a chance.

So tired of the early season losses.

 

He's always intrigued me as a left guard prospect quite frankly, granted I'd rather see him put an end to any question marks at tackle considering we have more bodies capable of playing guard ATM, no.

 

Cyrus Kouandjio may not be completely out of the question either. The dude is a little heavyset and may not get as high ratings as some other guys because of it. By the end of everything I expect Jake Matthews to be the top offensive tackle but I don't expect Miami to be in position to grab him. Unless they pull another Oakland trade out of their arse. That would be delightful.

But there will be some other good ones. I like Cameron Fleming at Stanford a lot. Better than David Yankey. A lot better. Still not quite sure how I feel about Taylor Lewan.
