mey...he wants him to play the first game, knowing that success of any kind is doubtful because of the oline and then fail, thus clearing the way, in his eyes, for HIS boy henne..
and that's as biased as I know how to get... :tongue2:Larryfinfan, Themole, gafinfan and 2 others like this. -
i predicted that Beck starts this Saturday. it does seem like he's getting majority of the looks to me.
-
and whatever qb starts this weekend, well....hold on to your butts. -
anyone know if the game will be aired ANYwhere outside of the local SoFla area live? can i watch it online or something? NFLN is showing the delayed taping on Sunday or something, but i want to watch it live... and i don't mean watch the dots on nfl.com :)
-
do you have sirius? i had to listen to the preseason games last year.
someone on here has that tv website though. -
The first game is near meaningless, even if Beck dominates or sucks.

Dude isn't good at his job. He can't win because he is not good at his jobunluckyluciano and Stitches like this. -
Beck has a HUGE opportunity, if he starts, to show he belongs. It would be nice to see Beck start just to see if he can finally put it all together. -
I kinda expect one of the 2 (Beck or McCown) to start game 1 and the other to start game 2. Not that I don't think Henne should or should not start either, however, IMO the staff really would like to start one of the other 2 week one and that is where they must make a decision. Again not to say the Henne does not have a chance to start week one, just I would think the FO would rather start someone other then the rookie. Of course if neither one plays well and Henne comes in a lights it up, perhaps he gets a look with the first team. Either way, just want one to turn the corner and be a solid QB going into week one of the season.

Why cant you all just get it through your heads that John Beck sits at the same lunch table as AJ Feeley? The guy is going to fail. FAIL. Finish. Again. In. Last. That what we get with Beck!!!!!
Ok Johnny, prove me wrong. I'm counting on it!!! -

They do have meaning to coaches, just not the meaning we give them. We do not watch routes of wide recievers and watch over hours of tape to pick apart everything that goes on in a play.
Beck could have an AMAZING first preseason game and still be a back up. He could have a horrible game and still win the starting position. -
I just wish there was a clear cut guy out in front of the other two.. This QB competition is too close, and that isnt a good thing because noone is performing as well as we would like... Its like they are all equally sucking, for the time being

i think a lot of you are having problems digesting suncoat's thoughts and rhetoric.... the way i'm reading him, you're all on the same page but don't realize it ;)SuncoastFinsFan likes this. -

im not gonna buy the preseason excuse "were running a vanilla O and D" anymore. washington came out and executed. made plays on boths sides of the ball. we comfort our suck *** preseason performances and lack of execution with the vanilla excuse. we're not the only ones without mid-season gameplans, the team lining up across us is in the same boat. and for the last 5 years, mid season game plans havent faired any better anyway, nor have they been much more flavorful.
no more. saturday will be a BIG deal to me. either we come out and execute and guys can play ball....QBs can play ball...or NOT. 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team. either guys make plays or they dont. if the 3 qbs come out and do the exact opposite of what Jim Zorn's kids did, im pointing the finger at them, not at a flavor.texasPHINSfan and mullingan like this. -
However, the first game will build a "new baseline". Whatever Beck shows, his improvement, or lack of it, will be based on that performance.
Lets say he goes 3-8 with no TDs and an INT in the first game.
If he goes 5-9 with a TD and no INTs I think the consensus will be that he is improving.
Get the drift? -
Thats what I am talking about.texasPHINSfan likes this. -
Thats exactly what we should be looking for EXECUTION. If we can't execute offensively or defensively, against this "vanilla" game planning, then there is not chance we can execute when things get complicated. Can we hike the ball without false starts. Can we run the ball, are the O-line men hitting thier assignments, backs hitting the hole, wr blocking/running routes/getting open and above all MAKING THE CATCH. Do we have QB that can drop back and get us a first down when we need it. It doesn't matter, IMO, if its 1st string against 1st string or 3rd string against 3rd string. Are the players executing their positions, playing solid football. Thats what I would be looking at (if I could get the game in Tennessee).

Fast forward to September 11th, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila has been released and Miami has one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
Also last year the QB that "can play ball" was Brock Berlin.
I love preseason TO DEATH and I am REALLY looking forward to watching Miami play. However it is not the best indication of who is winning certain spots on the roster and how a team or player is going to do in the regular season -
its true. the last 5 or so preseasons, we've been sugar coating the inevitable. im sorry but teams are out there blitzing, running "statue of liberty" plays, trying things out and trying to win. the only difference is, after four games we go back to 0-0. players jobs are on the line, and starting spots are in the air. coaches don't want to lose. no winning is not wildly important, but playing good sure as hell is. -
-
our RBs look good. you know what, they're probably gonna be pretty damn good this year. Our QBs have been bad...guess what...
its been to many years now, from july through december where, its looking like a duck, and its quacking like a duck, but im calling it something else. if the QBS and WRs dont pick it up soon, and start playing like pros...im just not falling for it again.texasPHINSfan likes this. -
Well its athlete versus athlete each game whether we game plan or not. Yeah, game planning you try to work out mismatches and such. No matter what side of the ball you play on, if each player executes his responsibility, each and every play, the unit, as a whole, should have success. Just my opinion.

It also goes both ways. Which is why you shouldn't get too happy on Miami if they do execute.
