Very well written article, CK. Nothing to add, you covered everything much more eloquently than I ever could. Glad to see Gil Brandt chiming in on the 2013 draft class. It's one thing that's really been glossed over about Ireland this year. To get so little contribution out of an entire draft class is pretty much unacceptable for a guy who has had so little success as an NFL GM.

Great write up Chris. Would love to read more if this is just "scratching the surface". I thought the poll results were pretty telling within your article.

He's been evaluated and retained the past two offseasons, I don't think they'll change their minds from what they've seen this season. It would have to involve a lot of dirty evidence against him they can't look past, for him to be canned IMO.

Certainly possible. While I don't think he's been as bad as some believe... he hasn't exactly been awesome either. There is room for improvement. The question is, can we find someone better?
My main concern about switching GMs is that a new one would want to bring in his own coach... and even more troubling would be the infamous "own QB". And I honestly believe we have ours that I want us to build around, and don't want to start over again.jboogie and MikeHoncho like this. -

Didn't Channing Crowder "retire" partially to avoid playing on a Jeff Ireland team?
He was hardly an all-star but called out plays at middle linebacker and the defense suffered noticeably without him.
Edit: Here it is. -
Yes, after getting a three year extension. He at least claimed that he'd never come back to a Jeff Ireland team if given the choice.
Extensions are the kiss of death on this team. Jeff Ireland just received an extension. -
I get that a GM's job is to do projections... but you can't expect them to be psychic either... lol
He passed his predraft personality tests with flying colors...

And are you really telling me that Jeff Ireland isn't a clinically certified psychologist? That right there should be grounds for stoning. -

Very good article. I didn't realize that the Ricky Williams piece was from a radio interview- not only were his comments the most insightful, eloquent, rational and thought provoking as per the Martin/Incognito situation, he comments were spoken, live and on the fly as compared to the other more planned out written pieces from others. What athlete in recent years, or ever, is more eloquent than Ricky Williams? He was and still is one of my favorites, I'm always interested in what he has to say.

ckparrothead: I follow most of your posts/articles & enjoy them. with no disrespect intended, anyone that can read knows you don't like Jeff Ireland.
having said that, I understand that the man has become a favorite target of many throughout the years of his engagement with the Dolphin organization. justly or unjustly it is what it is... very political & one more piece to the ugliness inflicted upon our franchise.
I suspect you're right, he won't survive the fall-out nor will Incognito or will Jim Turner... in my unprofessional opinion
more importantly however, I think the damage inflicted on the team will reach far beyond two or three heads rolling. it will be difficult to move ahead with the present regime & the possibility of the Ross ultimately unloading the franchise is a consideration after more than a decade of mostly negative experiences, controversy, a problematic fan-base & disappointment.
may God bless Ricky Williams... -
there is one thing to think about and that is many former players and other personel across the league don't have any respect for Ireland so that right there should rase the big red flag.

In other words, the Dolphins FO and coaches pretty much screwed the pooch as per the OL and team overall. Jake Long mentioned that he liked Jeff Fischer, made no mention of Philbin- to me that was telling and an intended omission. Ross should just clean house, get all of the bad mojo out of the building. -

I think letting Long go rather than raising the offer, and not giving McKinnie the two year contract he was looking for, forced coaches to shoehorn Martin into a tackle position when he wasn't good enough. Then he traded a draft pick of some sort for McKinnie (not sure what). That all contributed to this mess, though the remainder is not Ireland's fault.

never ceases to amaze me the sense of entitlement & authority with which some people make inflammatory & inaccurate/incomplete statements... always easy to venture an opinion when you're not held responsible for its repercussions.
the fact Ireland adjusted & survived this long under so much negativity speaks volumes. personally, I think he's doing an excellent job as GM of an organization under relentless seize, adversity & reconstruction over the last six years... I like the owner & Philbin. the only weakness I perceived early on was Turner as offensive line coach which I voiced a long time ago & continue to believe vehemently.
I believe the team is very talented, young & has the potential to move forward, eventually, dominating the AFC, becoming a perennial force to be reckoned with in the NFL for many years to come... of course I am not a pundit just an ardent fan. but as a fellow-fan I ask of you, please don't contribute to the final destruction of the franchise with damaging, irresponsible opinions expressed as fact.

Ireland would be fine as a scout.

had a sergeant named Samora in boot-camp. the guy was the most outrageous, overbearing, miserable son of ***** & bully imaginable... everybody hated him!
to my surprise one day, almost a year later in the middle of a combat operation in Vietnam I heard his voice booming over the noise & confusion of a fire fight "phuk up" what are you doing here? I embraced him & said "thank you Sarge." somewhere in the midst of that event was a lesson to be learned. I owe that ignorant spic bastard my life.djphinfan likes this. -
He should have been fired along with Sparano in 2011. If he had been fired at that time, perhaps the Dolphins would be much further along in their rebuilding process than they are at this time. I hate to see what is happening with Martin and Incognito at this time, but if it leads to a major shake-up at the top of the Dolphins organization, something good might just come out of this mess after all.
