I heard some talk about it and if you ask me I would really enjoy it happening. Everyone here has their own opinions about Ireland, I get that, but IMO Bill Polian would be better suited as our GM. I went back and saw his history as GM and he led the Panthers to the NFC Championship in his second year there. This lead him to the job with the Colts where in his first year he chose Peyton Manning over Ryan Leaf which worked long term but was questionable at the time. I see him as a better GM for us than Ireland who in his 5th year has given us with 0 depth at the WR, DB, and O line positions. I would add LB but our backups are playing strong in special teams. We need Ireland out especially given the fact that Philbin wants to build through the draft. We dont want any more 2008 drafts happening

Someone tell me how long it has been since Bill Polian had a year as good as Jeff Ireland/Bill Parcell's worst here? Was it in the last decade? Just barely?
If you have a 50/50 QB decision at the top of the draft, call him and ask his opinion. Otherwise keep the **** away.Bpk, unifiedtheory, 2socks and 4 others like this. -

Unbelievable , when if ever does the GM of your team become accountable?

Polian is not an upgrade over Ireland. He values the QB position more than Ireland, but being greater than zero is not a difficult achievement.
The Colts under Polian got collectively old. Whether that's because their 22 starters were so good that their rookies and depth players couldn't grow and displace the starters, or because the rookies and depth players were bad, is up for debate. But he didn't maintain the roster in a way that he should have.
If Ireland is ever fired, then it would be best to go with a younger guy from a consistently successful franchise, IMO.unifiedtheory, toto, gafinfan and 1 other person like this. -
This makes me miss the Carl Peterson talk to be honest. -

Another platform for Ireland apologists to shamelessly defend a man who has been a failure....

Polian is literally light years better than Ireland.
though in Ireland's defense, he never should have been a GM in the first place, but the good thing is after we fire him nobody will ever make the mistake of appointing this clown to run their franchise again.Serpico Jones and oakelmpine like this. -

I don't have much evidence as to who he selected his first three years on the job, especially considering who hired him, who hired his coach, and understanding the the history and precedence of the guy who did hire him..
I do know under his tenure, he's not choosing the players I would of drafted, so im inclined to want to make a change, but I will wait til the end of the year, put his last two years in a box, compare all players he aquired, and all players he passed up on, listen for some clues from Philbin, and go from there.Colorado Dolfan likes this. -
Not doing jumping jacks over Polian, but he has a strong track record of building talent on offense around his QBs. something we need.
his track record on defense leaves something to be desired. but since our front 7 is relatively still young, just need Polian to draft some secondary starters. -
Yeah, lets hire the guy who easily cost Manning a few more rings.

Once more bang the drum, dear friends, once more;
And close the season up with our games now lost.
In victory nothing so becomes a man
As bold claims of wins and playoffs;
But when the pain of loss blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger,
and cry "Fire Ireland! He's to blame!".Steve-Mo and Fin-Omenal like this. -
But I can't believe we are going to debate whether he should be the next GM or not. 28 years... this team has been to one championship game since. ONE. He's certainly the most qualified and has the best resume of any GM available. And people conveniently forget the whole Manning vs Leaf debate... yeah there was one. It was a toss up prior to that draft. Peyton had never won the big game for his team. Leaf had ALL the tools. Thankfully for Colts fans, he made the right decision. Manning didn't fall into his lap by any means.
If Polian picks Leaf over Manning, they don't win a super bowl let alone appear in the playoffs as many times as they did (practically every year). The Colts probably aren't playing in that new stadium. And hell, they might have even moved to LA by now.Last edited: Nov 23, 2012Fin-Omenal, PhinsRDbest and ssmiami like this. -
The game has passed Bill Polian up, much worse and much more obviously than it had Bill Parcells. This is sad and delusional. -
Ah, we shoulda took Clay Matthews, or Earl Thomas, or Dez Bryant, or Jimmy Graham. That's a fun game to play. Choose a draft pick, search for any player who was drafted later but is performing better, and ah hah! The GM sucks. If only Ireland could wait 2-3 years after the draft in order to make his selections, he'd probably still get it wrong though, right? But I wonder what happened to all of the lets take Jerry Hughes, Brandon Graham, Mark Ingram, Glen Dorsey folks. Somebody put out an APB.
My favorite knee jerk fan line is "Ireland doesn't value the QB position". If you wanted Ireland to sign Matt Flynn, shut your mouth. If you wanted Ireland to take Ryan Mallet instead of Mike Pouncey, slap yourself with a hammer. If you wanted Ireland to trade for Kevin Kolb, Kyle Orton or Carson Palmer, a self imposed ban would be nice. Not saying Tannehill is a HOF but he's played well enough for the Flynn-Orton-Mallett-etc guys to shut up for a while. Or not.
We're 0-0. Worst team in football. We're 4-3, playoffs here we come!!! We're 4-6, worst team in football again. Its comical how people can go from one extreme to another and then demand someone be fired to soothe their hurt feelings. If you thought this was a good team, you shouldn't have. It's a team that can win games with good/great defense and ST while limiting giveaways and/or capitalizing on takeaways. Otherwise its probably a loss, and you don't need to be a soothsayer to see that.
It also doesn't take a whole lot of insight to see that trading away talented players for future draft picks while not spending in FA and conserving cap space suggests that a team building for the future. Had we kept Marshall, Vontae, Chad, signed guys like Vincent Jackson-Mario Williams, Carl Nicks, or traded for Dwayne Bowe-Mike Wallace-Greg Jennings, that would suggest Irish was trying to win right now. But he didn't, and he isn't. If you want to judge the guy, at least try and have a clue as to what he's trying to accomplish.
Instead, he cleared some decent cap space, assembled a slew of early round picks, and is in a position to make some serious upgrades during the offseason. If he fails to make decent upgrades and the team isn't significantly improved next season then the Irish haters can restart the ***** and moan fest, but without sounding like idiots though. -
Polian is senile. Why do you think he was pushed out in Indy? It passed him by folks.
No thanks. -
The fact that Polian would be a package with his son Chris, makes this a non-starter.

Polian In and Ireland Out?
In all seriousness though, you could play this game with every GM. They make good choices, and they make bad choices. As a fan one can only hope that more good choices are made than bad choices.Paul 13 likes this. -

Perhaps your definition of a successful GM is flawed. Go ahead and play this game for ANY GM and see how 'successful' GMs are by whatever your arbitrary standards are, and post some results for the rest of the class. -

I look at our O-Line, WRs, and DBs and the amount of team resources invested into those 3 areas and the results we have for it and its hard to say he has done a good joboakelmpine, LBsFinest, muscle979 and 1 other person like this. -

He did build a great team in the worst place in buffalo.drafted great payers with excellent character..he also built multiple champioships in Canada, whipped together an expansion team into a Super Bowl team faster than anyone..
The concern for me is age..he's 70 years old, can the eyes catch subtle athletic movements that are important in evaluation, idk.
If Philbin and Sherman want him, I'm not gonna argue.
He did endorse Romo getting resigned for 5 years..don't agree with that. -
Jeff Ireland supporters are like Mark Sanchez supporters.
No matter what happens on the field there are always people behind the scenes making excuses and apologizing for him. Then we have some posters questioning the intelligence of a "fan base" if it is ready to move on from a guy who hasn't delivered.
We have a chance to turn these miserable years around this offseason, we have a chance to become a true contender if we make the right decisions.
If you want to believe in Jeff, then by all means have at it. But a handful of you insist those who are not happy with the lack of talent on this team are unaware, or not intellectual enough to understand the game. But after further review?? It is those same guys who are basically blindly defending the work of Ireland, because your argument is based on speculation when ours is based on results.PhinsRDbest and oakelmpine like this.
