I know everyone is talking about hartline and bess. But what about gates, Moore and Wallace? Do those guys fit in this philbin offense? Anyone think they are looking to bloom in his offense?

IMO the whole group needs to be rebooted. Upgrades all around and this is the draft to do it in.
-
Hartline and Bess are 2 good examples of players we drafted that performed.
If Gates gets the reps/experience this season,he has a chance to shine with the speed he possesses.
Now,Hartline especially needs to pick up his game. I would expect him to start, but opposite who? That's the question..
If there is no one one the other side that can get separation or any form of respect from the DB's,we will have trouble in the passing game.
Bess will be fine.
Moore and Wallace need to bloom as you say. One of the two won't be there when the season begins, IMO. -
We still need another really good WR. IMO, Hartline, Bess and Gates can thrive in this system, but we need them to be behind someone who has the whole package: speed, size and route running. Even if we draft a stud TE, that would be enough.

I'm guessing Gates might be one of the "hidden talents" Philbin referred to a while back. Hope so at least.

A team can never have enough playmakers at the skill positions. So I guess I care.MonstBlitz and SICK like this. -
You can't discount Pruitt at this point either. From what I read his biggest knock was that he couldn't get off press coverage. As a gunner on ST he was pretty impressive splitting double coverage.

Wr is the second most glaring position on this team since the departure of Brandon Marshall. Assuming Hartline and Bess can be those playmakers needed is another ridiculous assumption. -
more importantly, who's throwing to these wr's?
-
Next thing you'll say is the release of Bell makes safety the other least important position to fill... -

I have no idea how you can state that the least important holes this team is at WR. Hartline would be a third or fourth receiver on most teams in the NFL and with the Dolphins right now, he is basically their #1 WR. Bess is a very good slot receiver but his numbers were down considerably last season from previous seasons. Gates couldn't get off the line last year and no matter how fast he might be, there is still a huge question concerning his ability to play WR in the NFL.
I not only think WR is a big need for the Dolphins, I think it is one of this teams biggest needs now that they have no true #1 receiver on the team. I could very easily see the Dolphins using at least two of their early drafts picks on the WR position.mi2cents likes this. -

QB = more need than WR right now
FS = more need than WR right now
SS = more need than WR right now
olb/de = more need than WR right now
OG = more need than WR right now
OT = same need as WR right now
I'd agree with FinD...WR, given the O we will be running is the least important need right now.Ohio Fanatic and Fin D like this. -
I agree with both Ozzy and Fin-D. Playmakers at WR are important, QB is currently a bigger need. Upgrading QB upgrades all the WRs.
That being said, I'm as hopeful as any of you that Clyde Gates can turn it on this year, but what about his 2 receptions and 19 yards receiving in his rookie season makes anyone think he can thrive in any system? -
Acting like we'll suck without Marshall or some awesome WR, is simply not true. We went 11-5 without a special WR. What we had on offense when we went 11-5? A solid QB, a solid oline, 2 pass catching TEs...and crap at WR. Well, we need a QB, oline help, a second TE....all before we need a WR. Not too mention the defensive has holes to fill which are more important than a WR. We don't need an all world WR to be good. We will need one to become elite, but we need to become good first.
Not too mention, Philbin didn't want him in his offense. Crazy. The architect of one of the best offenses in the league deemed Marshall pointless and has even said there's no real #1 WR in his offense. -
Matt Moore is at least intriguing enough to try for one more season and if it doesn't work...then cash in and try to trade up for one of the top Qb's next year where maybe we can get a true top tier draft QB instead of the fringe first rounders who sneak into the top 10 ala Tannehill. -
if your wrs are this horrible teams just stack the box and press you all day. We did it to the raiders because their WR core is that horrible, especially getting off press coverage.
i think hartline can improve this season but it's yet to be seen and it's gonna be real hard with duds like moore and garrad at the helm. At this point i want them to draft tannehill if the browns pass at 4 just for the sake of having something to watch. I think the smart move for winning games is to go pass rushing DE but our offense is so horrible...basically you can't fault them for this pick, whatever it ends up being because they've put themselves in such a ****ty position. If there isn't some sort of sign of life then ireland needs to go.
for me to want ireland i need to see;
production from D thomas at RB since we traded up for him. Pouncey to be dominate. long to be signed to a long term deal. a breakout performance from odrick. The only thing that saves the odrick drafting without high level or promise of high level play is another injury. cant fault a guy is the pick doesnt stay healthy. I'd also like to see something done with the two thirds we got for marshell. whether it's a trade up or drafting a WR that isn't horrible. I'm not gonna complain about them picking tannehill at 8 or a pass rushing DE. ill ****ing cry if it's decastro and we don't trade down. if kali (the usc T) somehow slips down to us I'd cry if we didnt take him as I see O line as the biggest problem with our offense followed by matt moore followed by Wrs. -
Matt Moore finished 12th in Rating, almost a 2:1 TD/Int Ratio, and completed over 60% of his passes after being thrown in with little camp and starting reps.
Our two receivers combined for 86 catches and 1,086 yards and 4 TDs. Together, they are ranked 17th in the league compared to everyone else solo, just behind Vincent Jackson and just above AJ Green. In TDs, they combine to rank tied for 63 with guys like Josh Cribbs and Santana Moss. If we put those two guys up against any two in the league, I guarantee we are bottom 5. Can't say that about QB.
QB isn't a sexy name, but he produced at a high level and with some help around him, will continue to grow. -
We have far and away the worst WR core in the league. If you have no intention of winning anything, sure, don't care. But there's a reason the great teams aren't trotting out complete bums at WR/TE like we are. WR is an absolutely massive hole. Not only for the fact that our current WR's suck, but no rookie QB is going to succeed throwing to these scrubs. -

So because you feel Marshall's 9 TD's means he did not produce it makes it an honest statement? Sorry but Marshall produced just fine, and especially last season. So no, its not about honestly. It's about ones opinion and yours is not written in gold. Nor is mine.
No # 1 Wr in Philbins offense? I beg to differ with that one BUT what he did have was a #1 in Driver for years and a bunch of SOLID Wr's after that. A Wr corps that was better than Miami's even with Marshall. Get some solid Qb play, TE play, and add an excellent Wr and this offense will be rolling quickly. Fix the defensive holes you speak of and this team will, once again, be boring, and losing ....
Yes there are a couple of holes on defense but I'm betting they address Wr with a first day pick. Hell, they might have a better chance at upgrading Wr than getting that all ellusive Qb of the future with this draft. Why? Because it's loaded with them. -
So because you say Marshall did produce, it makes it an honest statement....when his stats show he didn't?
-
Hartline has 1 td in the past 26 games
Bess had 3 tds and 537 yards receiving
Gates had 2 receptions and 19 yards receiving
Moore had ZERO yards receiving
Pruitt had ZERO receiving yards
Wallace had ZERO receiving yards
6 receivers with just barely over 1000 yards between them and 4 tds
16 players in the NFL had more yards receiving than the 6 receivers we have combined
62 individual players had more tds than our combined 6 receivers
If you don't think wide receiver is the least important problem we have you better double check on that again -
OMG man, I cannot believe you just compared Chambers to Marshall!
BTW, Philbin never said he did not want Marshall. Not once so save it -

Yeah, its an insult to compare Marshall and Chambers....to Chambers. Again, Chambers MOPS THE FLOOR with Marshall last year.
Basically, all you guys are losing your **** over less production than Chris Chambers.
Chris Chambers.
That is all.
Chris Chambers. -
Yet you've failed to dig deeper into how each season played out. How Marshall gets doubled, and in many cases, shadowed by a third defender because the rest of the Wr's can be covered by a single defender. Chambers didn't come close to having as good a season. Not close.
And you need to stop making crap up about me losing my mind over the loss of Marshall. I've said it over and over. If they want to trade him, have a replacement and I'm betting they do or this team is SCREWED!!
