Peter Kiper: Draught Kings
Hello to all of you out there watching the coverage of the GML offseason. Now I know what some of you are wondering, where the hell has the King of Kipers been? Apparently watching my brother Randy making a mockery of Mocks, that and opening my brand new bar here at the GML headquarters, book a table today! Now they said Peter, you can open a bar here but you need to get back to writing. So I told them I'll get back to writing as soon as I get back to drinking, but they don't want me to drink until I at least give you find folks a piece of my grand football mind. So here goes...
Look at that a question from a fan and it's at the bottom of this beer... [chugs back] Well then, it looks like those pesky Packers fans are looking for some answers.
"Hello Mr. Peter,
I am a 13 year old fan and want my Packers to do good, is there some guys who will be good cheeseheads for us in this draft? I am still sad my favorite player was cut, I miss AJ Hawk. Why did they break my heart?
Biggest Cheese Packer ever,
Rue Paul"
Well Rue, the Packers hate you. I don't know what kind of a world we live in when AJ isn't a Packer, why if there was a more real reality than this then I could never see Hawk being cut. As for the draft, let's take a look at my Kiper draught screen and see who I've got going to la Packers.
Round 1 - Number 21:
WR Jaelen Strong, Arizona State
I heard the rumors, Dez Bryant to the Packers. If it happens then I'm a sober and well respected member of MENSA, HA! They shipped out Jordy Nelson for looking to much like the Packer faithful and bring in a guy who hates the cold but can jump for some balls in the end zone. I think this is what the Packers GM has been alluding to with his balls comment.
Round 1 - Number 30:
LB Eric Kendricks, UCLA
Some times when you work out of your home office it's easier to go to the backyard for a coffee, while he's there the Packer's GM saw what he liked watching Mychal's brother. "In and out, some times you have to go off menu," was what I remember him saying, it's a strange way of talking about a hitting style and thinking outside the same box as other GMs but I'll take it for what it's worth... animal style indeed.
Round 2 - Number 62
RB Tevin Coleman, Indiana
Many of you might not know this but the Packers GM grew up a big fan of R&B and Soul music in the nineties, which would explain why he sent in Tevin Campbell's name on the draft card. Not knowing what to do the GML awards him Tevin Coleman instead, even though they have Lacy at the back he can always use another back. Broke a bone, ran for a ton of yards. Tough kid, and Packers GM doesn't mind.
Round 6 - Number One Hundred and Ninety
QB Nick Marshall, Auburn
Packers could use a guy behind Aaron Rodgers just in case something happens, but the big wig of the cheeseheads feels like he might as well get a corner, but why not do it with the same pick! If he's not going to play with Rodgers, he might as well play somewhere.
Round 7 - Number Two Hundred and Twenty-Two
OT Andrew Donnal, Iowa
Kirk Ferentz and our favorite Packers GM have been close for many years and word is Andrew Donnal is going to be a Packer no matter what. "I told him, if he's good enough to start for me, even for one season... he's good enough for the Pack." He's got the size and can learn after being a backup for most of his time at Iowa. They like long shots and the Packers like to play lineman outside the first three rounds any ways.
So there you go Rue, the Packers hate you specifically and cut AJ Hawk just to spite you, don't sweat it though you can adore Clay Matthews like the rest of the world, especially when you can see him in Pitch Perfect 2 starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, May 15th in a theatre near you. Yes, I get paid when I mention my sponsors. Send in your questions and I'll see what is at the bottom of my glass here at Draught Kings, open Monday to Saturday.

Peter Kiper Leaks: The Unofficial Pre Pre-Draft Mock Draft
001. Jacksonville Jaguars
DT Leonard Williams, USC
The Jaguars GM can’t get enough lineman, it’s been a revolving door this offseason and maybe once the draft is over these JAGs will settle on a line. Takes me back to the 90s and revolving pop acts.
“I’m laying it
On the line to show you…”
- On The Line All Stars
002. Tennessee Titans
QB Jameis Winston, Florida State
The Titans are hoping and praying that Winston falls into their laps, he’s number one on their list of three game changers at the number two spot. Of course the Leonard Williams pick could be a smoke screen and yours truly was paid off quite handsomely. This pick can go one of three ways, but the Titans believe Winston was meant for them.
“I know that you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you.”
- Jewel
003. Miami Dolphins
WR Kevin White, West Virginia
The Dolphins can’t lose with this pick as they have two players they want and they know Jameis Winston will be off the board and won’t have to worry about trading Ryan Tannehill because it will go as well as dealing Brian Hardline or Daniel Ellerbe.
“Nothing seems to redeem Ohio.
It is the state that killed my love.
Hey!
Don't you want to come with me
Hey!
And make a break for Kentucky
Hey!
I still got something to put in ya
Hey!
But we'll have to go to West Virginia.”
- Electric Six
004. Oakland Raiders
WR Amari Cooper, Alabama
Sure they added Percy Harvin, but the Raiders need a true number one at wide out and elect to take the safest bet at receiver. Cooper is a plug and play prospect and will give Matthew Stafford a weapon that’s as safe as any safety blanket Tight end.
“I could lift you up
I could show you what you wanna see
And take you where you wanna be
You could be my luck
Even if the sky is falling down
I know that we'll be safe and sound”
- Capital Cities
005. Cleveland Browns
QB Marcus Mariota, Oregon
Spread the love around, because after Winston it’s up in the air if Mariota is worth a pick in the first. Does his skill set translate to the NFL? The Browns might not really care with their track record. It can’t get any worse then Matt Schaub’s corpse or what’s his name?
“So it's gonna be forever
Or it's gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it's over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane”
- Taylor Swift
006. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DE/OLB Randy Gregory, Nebraska
Jerrell Freeman disappeared as the Chargers dropped a big bid and the Colts can say goodbye to this selection. The Buccaneers keep it and have a plethora of options of edge rushers and elect to go with Gregory who will look nice rushing from behind their defensive line.
“Now if we meet out on the street I won't be running scared
I'll walk right up to you and put one finger in the air
And make you understand, and make you understand
You had your chance, had your chance”
- Demi Lovato
007. New England Patriots
OLB Vic Beasley, Clemson
The Patriots really want a receiver but they don’t see one they feel is good value here. They will be looking to drop back because they feel they have good depth everywhere, however they’re stuck and will take one of the top edge rushers, just in case injuries hit the likes of Chandler Jones or if Donta takes longer to come back.
“Cause if you want to keep me, you gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder
And if you really need me, you gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, got to love me harder”
008. San Francisco
CB Trae Waynes, Michigan State
The 49ers GM doesn’t know what to believe anymore with players retiring left, right and center. They could easily grab Danny Shelton to strengthen the line but they would rather get a starter opposite Brock and nab the corner with the best combine measurables.
“Why am I so emotional?
No it's not a good look, gain some self control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt”
- Sam Smith
009. New York Giants
DT Danny Shelton, Washington
“Yeah, it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two
But I can shake it, shake it, like I'm supposed to do
'Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase
And all the right junk in all the right places”
- Meghan Trainor
010. St. Louis
WR DeVante Parker, Louisville
Still not happy with his wide receivers, the Rams have been looking for a lead for their corp, but instead of landing a receiver with NFL experience they nab the next talented receiver in Parker. They kick the tires on DBG but are afraid he’d kick the tires on the ladies of Missouri… down the stairs.
“And we'll never be royals [royals]
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.”
- Lorde
011. Minnesota
DE/LB Dante Fowler Jr, Florida
Is Marcus Peters worth this high of a pick? Not for the Vikings, but they prefer to get a value and pick up the Gator who could have gone in the top five. Fowler may be a bit overhead but he’s good value here.
“So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me, me
It's not a bad thing to fall in love with me, me”
- Justin Timberlake
012. Washington
CB Marcus Peters, Washington
Peters is ecstatic that he gets to stay in Washington until he’s reminded it’s not that Washington. The Vikings may have been iffy with Peters but the Redskins are happy to add a guy that could replace DeAngelo Hall.
“Well your the reason why
I'm dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower
Ladade ladada ladada
Singing in the shower”
- Becky G
013. New Orleans Saints
OT Brendan Scherff, Iowa
The Saints could use a number one receiver like a lot of teams but they can’t pass up the value for possible the best lineman in the draft and throw him at right tackle.
“It's hard to feel the rush, to brush the dangerous
I'm gonna run right to, to the edge with you”
- Lady Gaga
014. Indianapolis
LB Stephone Anthony, Clemson
The Colts might have missed out on their real target but they look to add a linebacker with some size. Anthony is a fast riser and has an inside track to land in Indy.
“Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home”
- Phillip Phillips
015. New York Jets
DT Malcolm Brown, Texas
Ratliff is long in the tooth and they need some depth at defensive tackle. It’s a toss up between Brown and Jordan Phillips, but they prefer versatility along the line and Brown can play end, nose tackle or three technique in either 3-4 or 4-3 defenses.
“I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love”
- Maroon 5
016. Houston Texans
LB Alvin Dupree, Kentucky
A lesser program, but not a lesser player. Houston added Trent Cole to play outside linebacker but in case he lost a step over the offseason, they bring in a solid player who can replace or start over Cole depending on the case.
“If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?”
- Zedd
017. Denver Broncos
LB Shaq Thompson, Washington
Losing some love in the draft process Thompson can talk to Elway about their would be baseball careers but add to one of the weaker linebacker units in the league. Then again they might use him at safety if they feel Matt Elam is falling even further behind after a good rookie season.
“I woke up with a strange tattoo
Not sure how I got it, not a dollar in my pocket
And it kinda looks just like you
Mixed with Zach Galifianakis”
- Hot Chelle Rae
018. Kansas City Chiefs
WR Breshad Perriman, Central Florida
A big target that can make some tough catches, the Chiefs were looking at Permian and Strong but feel Permian can stretch the field and adds another dynamic strong is missing. Long store short, Perriman fits what the Chiefs are doing.
“I ain't tryna do what everybody else doing
Just cause everybody doing what they all do
If one thing I know, I'll fall but I'll grow
I'm walking down this road of mine”
- Nico & Vinz
019. St. Louis Rams
WR Jaelen Strong, Arizona State
What’s this? Back-to-back receivers in the first round. The Rams feel their defence is great and can add in the later rounds, so they continue to fix their receiving unit and bring in a acrobatic catching specialist. A great red zone target that will make up for Michael Crabtrees effeminate play in the end zone.
“Get up! Fresh out, pimp strut walking, little bit of humble, little bit of cautious
Somewhere between like Rocky and Cosby. Sweater gang, nope, nope y’all can’t copy
Yup. Bad, moon walking, this here is our party, my posse's been on Broadway,
And we did it our way.”
- Macklemore
020. Philadelphia Eagles
OT Jake Fisher, Oregon
There some crazy son of a bit… running the Eagles right now and he had a chance to take one of two Ducks here, why he chose Fisher over the defensive end is beyond me. The Eagles already have Lane Johnson and Jason Peters, maybe it’s because Peters is getting too old?
“And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn’t start this nation
We’re still pickin’ up the pieces, walkin’ on eggshells, fightin’ over yesterday
And caught between southern pride and southern blame”
- Brad Paisley
021. Oakland Raiders
OG/C Cameron Erving
They strengthen their receivers group and now look to add more fire power to the o-line allowing Stafford time in the pocket to throw the ball to Cooper down the field or Percy Harvin where every he feels like running with a bottle of tylenol.
“OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you're an animal, baby, it's in your nature
Just let me liberate you”
- Robin Thicke
022. Pittsburgh Steelers
S Landon Collins, Alabama
Once their safeties were head and shoulder above the rest of the league, but they’ve fallen on hard times. Some would say their defensive backs are rather flaky now and it’s time for a replacement in Collins. The best safety in the draft and only one worth a first the Steelers steal another one.
“I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me”
- Miley Cyrus
023. Detroit Lions
RB Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin
How long has it been since a running back gone in the first round? Gordon is a more talented runner then the last back taken in the first and fills the void in the backfield for the Lions. The Lions are bucking trends and hope this alleviates some pressure off their young passer.
“Called a police and a fireman
I’m too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire man
I’m too hot (hot damn)
Say my name you know who I am”
- Mark Ronson
024. Arizona Cardinals
OT TJ Clemmings, Pittsburgh
They can go a lot of different ways but when you have that boob Massie on your line you should invest in a solid bookend at offensive tackle. At one time Clemmings was the top rated tackle and is a strong athlete that the Cardinals feel he is their man.
“Now I've got you in my space
I won’t let go of you (never)
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you (never)”
- Disclosure
025. Carolina Panthers
OT Andrus Peat, Stanford
The Panthers GM likes their players smart or sensitive. Peat is a smart player and this side of sensitive of Jonathan Martin. He’s got more size then a certain LSU tackle, and will be a better fit then Sam Baker on the blind side. Not a sexy pick, but worth the value.
“Hold back the river, let me look in your eyes
Hold back the river, so I
Can stop for a minute and be by your side
Hold back the river, hold back”
- James Bay
026. Baltimore Ravens
CB Jalen Collins, LSU
Expect a the Ravens GM to deny, deny, deny and uphold his smoke screen. He’ll throw out some fancy numbers at you to dissuade the pick here, but you can never have too many corners because those numbers change a lot for this position. I never did well in math, but politics is a different story.
“Rate yourself and rake yourself
Take all the courage you have left
And waste it on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head”
- Mumford and Sons
027. Dallas Cowboys
DT Eddie Goldman, Florida State
Same as the last General Manager, expect the same broken record. When you shop in the thrift store you might as well grab some gold no matter how many carats it is. Same cheap joke, but my picks seem to always be gold.
“And you ain't gettin' money 'less you got eight figures
For that Jesus piece, man, I've been saved”
- Kanye West
028. Atlanta Falcons
TE Maxx Williams, Minnesota
Wanting to provide his quarterback with as many weapons as possible, the Falcons add another TE to play two tight end sets or just really big packages with Aslhon and Julio to the outside. The offensive line will be taken care of later along with the linebacking unit.
"I wish that I could be like the cool kids,
'Cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in.
I wish that I could be like the cool kids, like the cool kids."
- Echosmith
029. Indianapolis
DE Arik Armstead, Oregon
Somewhat raw, the Colts GM is a fan of size to his lineman especially in the 3-4. Indianapolis has some experience on the defensive line but the Colts might want to coach up their own version of Calais Campbell. They’ll sit on Amstead for a year and maybe add another tree in Oakman from Baylor next season.
“Is this movie that I think you'll like
This guy decides to quit his job and heads to New York City
This cowboy's running from himself
And she's been living on the highest shelf”
- Vance Joy
030. Oakland Raiders
OLB Eli Harold, Virginia
A replacement for the lost of Khalil Mack. Harold isn’t the pass rusher Mack is but can start ahead of what’s left on the roster. In time he can develop into a solid and steady pro.
“And another one bites the dust
Oh why can I not conquer love?
And I might have thought that we were one
Wanted to fight this war without weapons”
- Sia
031. Seattle Seahawks
DE Michael Bennett, Ohio State
Still employing the old Bennett strategy of having more then one Michael Bennett on the team, rumour is Seattle is going to bringing back former Vikings running back Michael Bennet and bring him to the line as a skinnier version of Henry Melton. Three Bennetts on the same line? It’s like the topless cheerleader trick play… almost…
“I turn my chin music up
And I’m puffing my chest
I’m getting red in the face
You can call me obsessed
It’s not your fault that they hover
I mean no disrespect
It’s my right to be hellish”
- Nick Jonas
032. Arizona Cardinals
QB Brett Hundley, UCLA
Carson Palmer’s career could be winding down and Logan Thomas couldn’t beat out Ryan Lindley to start a playoff game. The Cardinals need insurance if Palmer goes down again and select the other third best quarterback not named Bryce “Last Dance With Mary Jane” Petty. He can run and maybe used effectively in some read options.
“Pick up daddies at the playground
How I spend my day time
Loosen up the frown,
Make them feel alive
Oh, make it fast and greasy
I'm numb and way too easy”

Peter Kiper At The Draft
001 - Philadelphia Eagles
Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
Character concerns aren’t a problem with Mariota, but there are concerns related to his skill set translating to the pro game. However there is a fit here with the Eagles moving up to nab Chip Kelly’s college quarterback. Doug Marrone had the chance to do it with Ryan Nassib but didn’t have the same trust that Kelly has with Mariota. Marcus has a good ceiling and become one of the best zone-read quarterbacks or could wash out if he doesn’t learn how to play in the pocket in the pros or injures himself like RG3. It’s a better fit then the Jaguars with their faux-Kelly spread. Winston is the more talented QB in most scouts eyes but it’s a trade off for a safe prospect that has a history of fitting at the college level but it just won’t fly as high at the pro level.
Kiper Grade: B+
002 - Tennessee Titans
Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State [traded to Cleveland]
There’s a laundry list of concerns with Winston but his football talent and IQ has been enough to wipe away the concerns of a lot of the experts. Like I expected the Titans got lucky because the first pick were swapped from one Kelly cultist to the next and now the QB needy Browns were able to take advantage of the Titans GM less than stellar QB scouting experience. Could this be a Blaine Gabbert over Cam Newton predicament all over again? Will the Titans regret letting Winston get away? The Browns might have gotten another one over the Titans in the QB department as they were able to jettison Johnny Manziel and acquire Jameis Winston from the Titans in the same offseason.
Kiper Grade: A
003 - Miami Dolphins
Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
Things fell into place for the Dolphins and prevented them from having to move Ryan Tannehill if Winston was available. Kevin White wowed scouts and GMs alike especially the Dolphins GM, he prefers the high ceiling of Kevin White over the polished and safe Amari Cooper. The measurables are there and a lot of fans will be excited after the display at the combine by White and would give this pick an A+, because it fills a need with an exciting player but there was a more polished player at the position and the consensus top player was still on the board.
Kiper Grade: A-
004 - Oakland Raiders
Leonard Williams, DT, USC
The top player on most experts boards Leonard Williams has compared to former Vikings great Kevin Williams. He has the versatility to play anywhere on the line and could be the most dominant defensive player in this draft. It could be similar to the 2010 draft where Ndamukong Suh went second after Sam Bradford. Suh has been a far away better player then Bradford and so has Gerald McCoy who went third. The Raiders did well with the selection and having a decorated player fall into their laps.
Kiper Grade: A+
005 - St. Louis Rams
Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
St Louis was looking to land a number one receiver all offseason but couldn’t reel in a veteran. Instead they were able to move up and land the most polish receiver, who also is the best route runner in the draft. Cooper had an outstanding 2014 at Alabama with 1700 yards and 16 TDs with 3 games of over 200 reception yards. Some say he didn’t take over the National Championship game he was suppose to but he has the production and skill to be the best WR this upcoming season, though his production might not reach their Alabama heights with Andy Dalton throwing to him, however that didn’t stop AJ Green from producing.
Kiper Grade: A+
006 - Indianapolis Colts
Vic Beasley, LB, Clemson
The Tiger did everything he needed to at the combine and showed he was one of the best, if not best edge rusher in the draft. The Colts were clearing their roster for a complete reload and felt good enough about Beasley to draft him in the top ten. Is he better than Dante Fowler or Shane Ray? The production and workers might indicate that he is. Beasley would have gone in the top five or ten in last years draft as well. You might not be able to get an unbiased opinion from the Colts GM but he is a solid pick even if the GM immediately put him on the block which loses marks from me.
Kiper Grade: A-
007 - New England Patriots
Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
A big body that will immediately help clog up running lanes, Danny Shelton has great size and motor that keeps going. Some detractors will argue against his pass rush skills because they didn’t see enough game tape (or any) but rather a single drill the Senior bowl. Would this have been the selection if the Patriots didn’t make that move to cut Vince Wilfork? The Patriots get moves for getting a top ten pick for their backup QB, but would have gotten more value trading back a few slots and picking one of the top ten talent to slide a few slots in the draft. It rebuilds the middle of the defensive line’s strength but more value could have been gathered.
Kiper Grade: B+
008 - Jacksonville Jaguars
Dante Fowler, LB, Florida
Did the Jaguars really solve their QB conundrum by dropping back and bringing in Nick Foles, a player who has yet to start a full 16 games in a season. Another question is whether they received enough value landing 8th overall after dropping back from the 3rd pick to the 14th, then up to 1st overall. The Jaguars GM hasn’t shown a concrete dedication to one plan that trying to recreate what worked for the Eagles in 2013. They’ve managed to upgrade parts of their defence and moved to a possible 3-4 after bringing Wade Phillips on board. Fowler can be moved all over the field and create mismatches and allows Phillips to be creative. Add in his speed and size that allows him not to be overpowered Fowler will be a good player at the next level. Having two talented OLBs might help, but doesn’t necessarily equate to wins, just ask Washington and their then talented duo of Orakpo and Kerrigan. Trae Waynes would have also been worthwhile as well. It’s a solid pick, but doesn’t necessarily solve their true need or hole that they might have caused themselves. Especially when staying at 3 might have netted more value.
Kiper Grade: A-
009 - New York Giants
Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
The Giants executives might have thought they were throwing a curveball to the critics by selecting the top rated cornerback in the draft instead of defensive line help but there isn’t much of a shock or any at all by taking one of the two best players left on the board. The old adage is you can’t have enough corners, especially when the G-Men needed a true starting corner opposite Leon Hall. They nailed this pick.
Kiper Grade: A+
010 - Denver Broncos
Randy Gregory, LB, Nebraska
The Broncos have an interesting collection of defensive lineman and linebackers, but there isn’t a true rush impact player. Gregory has been rated high on draft boards for the past year and fits better as a linebacker. His workouts showed he is every bit the player he was at college even though he came in lighter than normal for the combine. Once OTAs and camps arrive Gregory will be closer to his playing size and will show him to show his natural pass rushing skills and ability to tackle in space. He has shown he can get to the quarterback and can track running backs, so he’ll give a special dynamic to the Broncos defense. A solid pick.
Kiper Grade: ASkull Destroyer, Vengeful Odin and Finfangirl like this. -
Thanks for the writeup Schis. Nice job my friend.
When it comes to the draft, Clemson players receive no increase in value from me. Last year I had 9 draft picks, of which none went to Clemson's 5 drafted players. Oddly enough it was Paul rather than the Clemson fan who traded up to #1 for Sammy Watkins. Beasley is my highest rated defender regardless of position, so I was tickled to have him still there at 6. Vic playing for Clemson is just an added bonus. -
thanks for your time and imput Scott, but we disagree
We're not sure this is a fair assessment, considering we received
Brandon albert
Dion Jordan
Mike Wallace whom we flipped for a 3rd rounder
Nick Foles
Conner Barwin
Dante Fowler, Jr
looking at that list, it seems to me we received a boat load of talent. Including a Qb who performed well under coach shurmur. You can question Foles all you want, but there is no way you can argue that we didnt get talent and value moving around.
Statement #2:
Actually, im not sure what you're trying to say here. We havent shown a concrete plan? Surely, dont call me Shirley, you can't be serious. We have Pat Shurmur as our head coach. We brought in his qb, the qb's favorite WR, Devanta Adams who plays the part of darrin sproles, we improved our oline, kept denard robinson and added a big bruising back in DeMarco Murray. So again, what havent we done to show dedication to our plan?
Adding Dante Fowler at 8 was just icing on the cake - How can you get an A- for picking up an Elite player, who's been listed as such on almost every draft site and by almost every draft guru known to man.
We aint mad, we just feel we've been slighted a bit.vt_dolfan likes this. -

Getting a top five talent...top five ELITE talent at number 8 is probably exactly what BK said...A Steal. Sorry an A+ Steal.....Finfangirl likes this. -

Wade Phillips traditionally runs a 3/4 defense. However, his 3/4 is not always the same as other teams 3/4. It really depends on what kind of players he has. For example...look at how he used JJ Watt in Houston. JJ Watt was not used the same way a typical 3/4 two gap DE is used. He allows his DEs to stunt..or move around depending on what kind of players he has. If our DEs are just more the big run stuffing kind....they would be more the typical two gap.
Heres a great quote from him...
“We try to get our best players one on one as much as we can,” Phillips continued. “You’re not going to get guys free all the time. You try to get matchups. Pro football is matchups where there are receivers, cornerbacks or d-linemen and offensive linemen and pass rushers, put them on guys that you think they match up well with. J.J. if we can just keep somebody else off of him, he’s got a chance to make plays as do some of our other guys.”
This is what makes having a DC like Wade Phillips so great, in that hes not endeared to a typical...this is how you have to run a defense. If he has the right players...he allows them to open up....Finfangirl likes this. -
I know what Wade Phillips has traditionally run but I want to know what you're running.

Im pretty sure I answered your question as directly as I want to at this point. Its not really something that has to be spelled out until our final roster is due...

Given a team gave up #1 overall and a possible franchise QB. To land a QB depth chart of Nick Foles/Ryan Mallett/Bryn Bennett.
Blake Bortles or Marcus Mariota/Jameis Winston probably looks a little better.
