30. Miami Dolphins (19)
Top overall grade: RT Ja’Wuan James, 78.0 (No. 32)
Top pass-blocking grade: LG Laremy Tunsil, 79.3 (No. 40)
Top run-blocking grade: RT Ja’Wuan James, 81.0 (No. 18)
The loss of Mike Pouncey hurt this team in a major way, and he went down after just 301 snaps of action. Jermon Bushrod was a huge problem at RG all season, allowing five sacks and 34 total QB pressures as a pass blocker. He was also disastrous in the run game, with a 34.9 run-blocking grade, making him the lowest-graded guard league-wide in that facet. Rookie Laremy Tunsil flashed talent throughout the year, but had as many bad games as good ones, and the longer the season wore on, the worse Branden Albert began to look at LT, highlighted by his performance against James Harrison and the Steelers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

so we were ranked 30?
tannebaum did nothing to address the oline last summer, hopefully he does something this summer, especially if our QB is going to be less mobile... -
We were done in in the beginning of the year by not cutting Thomas, Turner, and Douglas and instead counting on them as backups when it was quite clear they all sucked. Sam Young was decent as a swing tackle, but we ****ed up for the 2nd straight year not gettin a great guard on the market. Last year it was Evan Mathis, this year it was the guy Green Bay cut who went to the bears whose name escapes me right now who ended up being one of the best guards in the league, predictably.
This OL is so fixable if we stop trying to take the cheap way out. Bushrod was horrific the entire year. Sign TJ Lang this offseason and a quality backup C for next year and we're fine. Unless we also cut albert, than another Guard needs to be added as well. there are plenty of good guards available this offseason, but we'll see if we are competent in the front office. -

OL could be better yeah.. but I thought it was worlds better for many games this year than in years past.
And I do find it a bit odd that anyone (in this case pff) would rank our OL 30th when we ended up ranked 10th in sacks allowed, 9th in total rushing yards and 7th in rushing Y/A. That would suggest they think most of the credit for those stats should go to the QB and RB.. not sure I buy that. I think OL definitely helped keep sacks down and opened up holes when healthy.
Besides.. if giving up 30 sacks a year gets this OL a rank of 30 (in pff's mind.. whatever you think of them), then where would you rank an OL that gave up almost twice that amount with 58 sacks in 2013?? Remember that season where the OL almost made Tannehill a new David Carr?danmarino, Sceeto, Tin Indian and 4 others like this. -

Amazing that our offensive line was still pretty bad this year but looked significantly better than previous years. The unit still needs a serious shot in the arm.
Edit: I mean.. just look at that list. That's four total whiffs in the first four rounds in the draft, it's no surprise we're still in a bit of disarray.Colmax likes this. -
I can't believe , realistically, we have to address the line again. All we really have is James and Tunsil. Bushrod was average and Albert and Pouncey are always hurt

Been putting a lot of thought into it, think we have to keep Albert for another year, Keep Tunsil at guard, spend some coin on a starting right guard, and pray for Pounce..draft one Combo/center guard in the 3rd to 5th range.

We're definitely going to have to draft Pouncey's replacement. The guy has fragile hips. He's really great at the run game but you can't depend on him.

And the staff gave the dreaded dreadheads, Turner and Hooch (Dallas Thomas), and Jamil Douglas a chance with them before cutting them for poor preparation and play after the Bengals game debacle...
Not sure how anyone thinks the FO "did nothing"...danmarino likes this. -

If your gonna find a replacement for pouncey where there isn't such a drop in talent then I think your gonna have to start out with a certain level of talent, so spending a third round pick on that guy is a high resource imo..
To create balance on this team my first two picks are gonna reserved for defenders..Mafioso likes this. -

If Albert is at LT then gets hurt, Tunsil has to move to LT and then an LG needs to be put in. That means two positions are affected when Albert inevitably gets hurt, hindering the cohesion of the line.Last edited: Jan 13, 2017 -

I totally agree with cbrad. However, how dangerous could this offense be if we could build a truly consistent running game? With Pouncey back and solid RG we could really get everything out of what Ajayi has to offer. If he is breaking this many tackles already, how much more successful could we be if we kept him even cleaner until he got to the second level of the opposing defense? These are questions I'm wrestling with at the outset of the offseason.

Also, was I the only one who saw Albert keeping Landry in check when he would start to lose it? lol...He's out there policing the players, which IMO, is a huge asset. -

Tough spot. -
9th best rushing offense and 10th in fewest sacks allowed.....that ranking sucks

Alas - they mostly played poorly vs. upper echelon competition so it's hard to take solace in that rank.dolphin25 likes this. -
