Fullest look at the possible plans for the Dolphins that I've seen so far.
PFF give their opinions on whether a 1 or 2 year tank is the plan.
Is that a valid plan?
What if they're just horrible at drafting?
Should it be Tua, Lawrence - or maybe both?
Will the Dolphins be the first true intentional tank job in the NFL?
If so, will the NFL respond to change the draft system?
Starts from 36:10.

God I pray to God we are not STUPID enough to spend all of this draft capital just to roll the dice on a single player, when our team still has so many holes. That would be the STUPIDEST thing we could do!!!
Rebuild this team from the ground up. Build an offensive line that can stop a freight train. Build a defensive line that swarms opposing offensive lines like a tsunami. Once those bases are built, you can run all over teams. This team, the city of Miami and so many of the fans here have been quarterback, quarterback, quarterback. While I've NEVER discounted the need for a GOOD quarterback, I've always advocated for a strong base in the offensive and defensive lines that we've lacked for years.
If anyone here disagrees with me, I ask them to HONESTLY ask themselves what would have happened to Drew Brees had we won that Lotto...or Luck for that matter...we would STILL be in the dumpster because we as an organization have forgotten the most basic principle of football...and that is taking and holding real estate and the only way you take and hold real estate is with solid lines on BOTH side of the ball -

I have an idea: don't make the game so easy for the QB and passing offense that the QB has this totally outsized influence on the game! The tanking is so much due to trying to get that franchise QB and the NFL is pushing teams towards this strategy. -
Note the rise in popularity of fantasy football. Fans of a lot of teams have to resort to fantasy now, to accomplish winning. Reality isn’t going to do it for them. -
What I'm doing there is looking at standard deviation in win% for every team (gray lines) over a 5-year window plotted at the beginning of that 5-year window on the x-axis (only started this from the 1970 merger) to see if that's changed recently. Red line is the league average.
What's most striking is the effect of the 1994 salary cap. Standard deviation of win% over a 5 year window has generally been higher after the salary cap showing that it has its intended effect of increasing parity. And while it's true that there's been a very slight average decrease in parity since then, it doesn't look like the NFL's rules have hurt overall parity that much. So I guess right now they don't have too much to worry about but we'll see about the future.Last edited: Sep 2, 2019Surfs Up 99 and The Guy like this. -
