Na, just kidding. But i was impressed with philbin today. I thought he kept his composure well during the first half meltdown. Also, great adjustments were made at halftime. I am sure they have been game planning vs.NE for a while tho. No reason to lose next week.

Philbin is the one. The Neo. The savior. The one who delivered. The new sheriff of the AFC.

It's much more likely Philbin staying out of Lazor and Coyle's way than it had anything to do with him

Its the first time in Philbins regime than I can remember when our second half adjustments were the differenco to the game. The way those second string LBs played was just superb.

One other thing I'm not sure Philbin's been given enough credit for is the talent level of this current team. Hickey goes out of his way to say their pickups in draft and free agency were "group" decisions between him, his crew, and Philbin.
We're deeper than we've been in a LONG time...as evidenced by today.mbsinmisc likes this. -

Carroll won in college and then won a SUPER BOWL last year.
Its not a necessary trait, but its certainly not overrated either. I'll take it over Philbin's deadpan anyday...unless Philbin proves to be a championship worthy coach. -

And Moreno....let's just say it's nice to see what a legit NFL starting RB looks like. -
I was impressed that he didn't use note cards in his post game speech! Improving in all phases!

The one area of schematic expertise Philbin had isn't being used. Miami didn't run the offense Philbin was the coordinator for in Green Bay with Sherman, and they sure as hell aren't now. -

That being said I don't want to give you the impression that Philbin really does any of the important head coaching jobs well enough that he should be an NFL head coach because I don't think he does.FinSane likes this. -
I'm willing to give Philbin the benefit of the doubt especially after embarrassing the Pats in week 1 and shutting them out in the 2nd half.
However, I do think today proved a huge indictment of him in retrospect for being forced to fire Sherman and Turner. The running game, and OL were a significant factor in our offense being horrible last year. Benton and Lazor came in and made a rookie RT, backup C, backup LG, and average RG look like the 90's Cowboys. If Philbin had his way, we'd still have Sherman and Turner and about 3.3 YPC (and almost assuredly a Loss)FinSane likes this. -
As for your last paragraph, that's what I was eluding to with my earlier post. You don't have the information necessary to make that conclusion. Schematically he's delegating, yes. That's literally all you know regarding Philbin. -

If you were to grade him as a motivator, as a schematic guy, as an on-the-field decision maker, etc. and so on I'm not sure you are left with someone who really should be an NFL head coach. -
Many coaches have coordinator blindness. As long as they get along, you won't see many coaches jettison their coordinators unless they are forced to, ESPECIALLY when those coordinators are former mentors to the HC.
Philbin brought in a man who was a successful HC in the NFL whom he trusted to help him transition into being a HC for the first time, months after his son died. We need to stop acting like this was the most egregious thing he ever did and colored his entire future. Most of you are so gung ho in harping on this that you neglect to realize he brought in Lazor. He brought in Benton.
