Not too early after how he played last game and has supposedly been practicing.

Again, he wouldn't be getting 1st team reps (ie starting the preseason game or playing with starters in preseason games) if they didn't think he was ready.
I already know he'll have earned the play time in the coaches' eyes if he gets in, so his teammates' opinions will be far more important IMO. -
Great point. Reports indicate the players remaining from last year's team have a very high confidence in Moore's ability and rightfully so. I think Tannehill has to either outperform him in the next few weeks or show a tangible upside for them to get on board.

I don't think it's ever too soon to start a capable NFL QB. It's just up to Tannehill to prove he's capable.

We know it well. Maybe Philbin already knows.
I have to see Ryan with the ones in a football game to know more. As well as everyone else. -
Are they considering starting Tannehill because he's ready or because he can play better than Moore? This is my main concern.
Also, remember guys this offense is like a new car model, would you like Moore or Tannehill to be the crash test dummy?Bpk likes this. -

I already feel good about him. Really good. That would be incredible, and I wouldn't even be surprised. He's getting it so fast.

Being better than McCown isn't quite the same as being better than Moore. Not saying Moore is great, but he's much better than either of those two.

It's still a good point. Also, this get much harder once there is nfl film on tannehill versus game planned defenses. By week five he could be struggling.

Honestly I think the last thing the players are going to think is that they are giving the job to Ryan. They have done almost everything to stack the deck against him being the starter.
Exactly. They've not made this an even competition at all.
I mean it's not quite the same but imagine if like Colt McCoy won the job over Brandon Weeden.

I didn't realize Reggie Bush made decisions on who took reps and with which squad.
In non-snarkiness, it proves my point that he has earned the players respect and wasn't given the starting role.

Reggie Bush said Tannehill would start purely because of his draft status. It was very early in the off season. It really says something that the coaches' treatment of Ryan Tannehill actually forced Reggie later in the off season (just before training camp) to eat his own words and declare that it looks like the plan is to have Ryan Tannehill sit for a year while Moore or Garrard start. And despite that, now it looks like Tannehill may start after all, may even be the favorite. Reggie's head must be spinning.

i think this should be Tannehills final test. we have nothing to lose if we start him next pre season game. we will finally get to see him with the starting offense against a starting defense. if he looks good we should stick with him, if not give the job to matt moore with the chance of garrard taking over if hes healthy.

It's honestly been frustrating the way Tannehill has been handled. Almost like they're putting a plan over the reality of the situation at QB.

I'm all in on Ryan. I've watched the game twice now and other than the questionable decision to throw one pass (the out pass on fourth down right before half time) I though he looked nothing like a rookie. As long as he continues to show that kind of play I have no issues with him starting opening day.
I disagree. I see it as not letting panic about the state of the position currently dictate how you feel the rookie QB should be developed. Even if he's the best option at QB going into the season... is that synonymous with him being ready? Or synonymous with the team around him being ready to properly develop the QB? Can this very raw and unproven WR corps get open and create separation for him? Can the line protect him in the new blocking scheme, including a rookie making a position change?
Take it a little slow and make him force the coaches hand, while also taking the time to make sure we are going to be putting Tannehill in a situation to succeed.
If I were Philbin, I'd call the Carolina head coach and ask if he could show Tanehill certain types of defense (or blitzes or whatever) that Philbin needs to see Tanny fire-tested with.
Or they know their business (football) better than we know our hobby (football).

I've watched the game three times now and other than one interception I thought the Bucs looked nothing like a real regular season defense would. As long as defenses continue to show that kind of lack of any gameplanning, and vanilla, simplified style I have no issues with Tannehill starting opening day.

Actually it's been a very solid pacing. If he plays well with the first string offense in the game then surely he'll be the 'guy'. It's just being careful that you aren't pushing him too fast. We know Philbin loves the way he's been throwing as that Hard Knocks moment he just couldn't hide it.
Considering he looked as good as, and better than some, QBs who are facing the same lack of those things, I have no issues with him starting
