Now with Merling’s injury, Odrick holds the cards, and can ruin the rookie slotting system and hold out for more money, if he so chooses. Dolphins second-round pick Koa Misi also has not signed his rookie contract, either.
But Rosenhaus’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, downplayed his client’s power play on his weekly Sunday night television spot.
“I don’t know that it will necessarily mean more money,” Rosenhaus said on WSVN Sports Xtra. “”There’s no question, the Dolphins were banking on Merling. … (But) I think when they drafted Jared, they were planning on Jared and Tony McDaniel playing a ton along with Kendall Langford.”
It certainly behooves the Dolphins to sign Odrick before training camp starts Friday afternoon. But it’s also in Odrick’s best interest to sign on time, as well. An extended hold-out could ruin his chances of playing right away and further deplete the Dolphins’ already-thin defensive line.
