To be completely honest, the only player whose opinion I'd value is Brent Grimes. And even he doesn't have much say with the FRANCHISE TAG.

EXACTLY.

A GOOD organization can:

- Attract top tier talent
- That talent wants to WIN, not just get paid. Consequently after you pay them they still play very hard and you win more.
- Get the same talent for less money, because players will take less to play for a great team than a crappy team



A BAD organization:
- Cannot attract players who care about winning first (usually the best players)
- Has to overpay free agents to play for them (this includes re-signing players)
- Once overpaid, these players don't care since they didn't join a bad team to try to win, but only to cash in… so the team lses more and gets bad return on investments

 

I'd be willing to bet that Miami now has less player appeal than frigid places like Green Bay or Minnesota. Our draft picks are probably going to be disappointed when Goodell calls their name on our behalf.

Ross has already issued a directive that the team is to do whatever it takes to retain Grimes. He'll be back.

To be fair he said "now" not last offseason. I'm not disagreeing with you though.

 

He signed with the team that had by far the most cap room and hence able to offer the biggest contract. End of story.

Replacing Ireland with Hickey may be an improvement, maybe not. Very likely at least a push. I fail to see how that is enough of a change to make Miami have less appeal than they already may have had compared to cold weather locations, or cause the draft picks to be disappointed being drafted by Miami.

 

I think that boils down to personal perception. I think I'd rather have Ireland but I'm going to give Hickey a chance to prove me wrong. Im going into this draft and season with no expectations of his performance.

Unfortunately they don't have a choice but to stay, 22million tied to both those players in dead money. We have to keep them.

 

It was based on our obvious attempt to win the "most embarrassing franchise" award, as well as the report that even our own players are trying escape the shipwreck that is now the Miami Dolphins.

It was also a joke though, but apparently we're just taking everything seriously right now.

 

You've shown in two threads that you aren't quite up on dead money as a concept. Dead money is the cost of cutting someone before their contact us up. Essentially, whatever guaranteed money hasn't been paid out. A one year deal won't cause dead money. As long as a player is rostered, there's no dead money involved.

What a day. On a day that should be kind of a celebration, or at worse, keep everyone hoping, this has been a completely chaotic day with pros and cons and doom and gloom, and some optimism on top. We have what we have. Time to focus on getting some things right without all the hoopla.

That is a sensible, logical approach. I cannot understand these fans whom because they did not want Hickey, rather than hoping for the best, hope for the season to be a total disaster, so Ross will have to fire him, Philbin, etc. I wasn't a big fan of Farmer as a potential GM, but if he'd been hired I'd be 100% supportive of him until he proved that in the role of Dolphins GM he wasn't capable.

Whatever Hickey did while working in TB does not matter now. All that matters is what he does from here forward. I hope he does great. Not saying he will but I sure as gawd damn hell ain't going to be hoping for utter failure simply because he wasn't the guy I wanted hired as GM.

It seems some posters here would rather see the team fail and they be right, than see the team succeed and they be wrong. Not mentioning any names, but they know who they are.
