Simple poll I posted last night. Overwhelming responses so far. I am leaning towards the no camp, myself.

I've said the same thing since he got here. He can make some nice plays and at times flashes brilliance. The issue is problematic decision making, pocket awareness, turnovers and that he doesn't seem to be a leader that guys rally around. I've never thought he would be better than a bottom half QB.

Well, after last night's game I think it's clear that the majority of the debate is going to turn away from whether Tannehill is the long-term answer and more towards how the Dolphins manage the position over the next 2-3 years.
There are a several narratives:
(1) Tannehill turns it around and we all agree he's good enough
Assuming he doesn't turn it around
(2) We could see Tannenbaum stick with him anyway
(3) The team uses him as the 2017 starter while preparing a solid prospect to start
(4) The team uses him as the 2017 starter while preparing a top prospect to start
(5) The team moves on and looks to FA while it builds up the roster with its most valuable picks
Right now I don't see SF or CLE being at all interested in him as far as a trade is concerned so I'm leaning towards predicting he'll be released after this season and that a veteran will be brought in to compete with some new pick. I'm not convinced that pick will be a 1st rounder though.Tin Indian, dolphin25 and FinSane like this. -
It's bad business to pay a QB of his caliber 20M for another season. You cut ties after this season and try to rebuild the team as a whole.

I've always blamed the oline on Tanny's issues. I knew he wasnt perfect. And the oline definitely isnt perfect. But I am done with this experiment. Season is probably a wash so no sense benching him unless you really think the backups are better. Hope they have a good plan. The way this **** is going they'll be picking top 3 so the scout team better be working.

The better question is actually why you would pay a guy 20 M who isn't the solution.
I dont want to hang my Sunday hopes on a Qb who's biggest talking point is he isn't the worst player on the team.Tin Indian, dolphin25 and pumpdogs like this. -

I'm with you in that a more consistent QB or at least one who could convert more 3rd downs would do more for this team than anything else.cbrad likes this. -

To that end, the poll itself is inherently flawed IMO. "The answer" is rather nebulous IMO. I'll take it to essentially be euphemism for "does he add value"? In which case I'd probably say no.Shane Falco and DolphinGreg like this. -

Nobody wins with this kind of garbage line play.

Interesting combination really without improvement in other areas. I mean.. he's on track to have essentially the same passing yards, completion percentage (as well as completions and attempts), TD's and TD% and overall passer rating as last year.
So what causes Y/A and INT% to increase but nothing else?
If one didn't watch the games, I'd say more risky throws does precisely that, but somehow that doesn't seem to jibe with what I'm seeing. -

Disgusting. 3 of those guys shouldn't even be in the NFL, let alone starting. -

time 4 Ryan/Gase to feign a series of aggregating but not career-ending injuries. start Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore, then continue to quietly improve through coaching & experimentation, while still managing to lose most games allowing us a top QB prospect in the draft. if we do not allow this season to totally expose Tannehill, we may get something of value for him trade.

I go back to something I read recently which is Mike Mayock's scouting note on Tannehill coming out of A&M. Mayock believed he'd struggle on in-breaking routes (which I he does) and that he'd wow people on the out-breaking stuff (which I also agree with). I think that so far that's been pretty spot on.
But what's interesting is that Tannehill struggles a lot in not seeing LBs it seems. He has a lot of dump-offs and short stuff picked off and swatted incomplete.
As far as the improved YPA, I think that's kind of who he is naturally. When Lazor left his YPA bounced up to that range so I think his low YPA was really a result of Philbin and Lazor taking a very conservative strategy into games. So far, Tannehill's had free reign to sling it around and as a result we're seeing his true YPA come out which looks a lot like most every other QB but we're still seeing these weird INTs on short throws that are either in-breaking slants or dump offs. -
Personally I would go with Doughty the last 4 games of the season. You could with Moore, and I certainly like Moore, but he is as the end of his career. Give Doughty a shot and see what he can do the last 4 games of the year then go from there.
I thought they should have done this the last 4 years with Moore -
If you aren't putting your team on your back, GTFO because during any Superbowl run, your QB will have to do that at some point.
Not saying he isn't or can't get into that spot, just that it was a weird categorization.Rock Sexton likes this. -
