He was cut because of some complex salary situation .

Interesting. I don't quite get it, but I guess I'm one of the few who is happy Porter is still a Dolphin.
-
Here is the deal, Porter's roster bonus is paid on March 1, he cannot be cut until March 5th, meaning we trade him before March 1, or pay him the 1 million and then keep him if they wish to..
This happens in baseball, a player is put on waivers and claims are made, then the waivers are retracted and a trade is worked out if it can be worked out. -
I'm lost.
-
Lastly it gives Miami a chance to trade him again thank god!!! I took a walk for no reason Pads hahahahahah...be back gotta to take the wifey for something to eat...keep it warm fellas... -
His salary doesn't begin until TC, so after they just paid him 1 million dollars it costs them nothing additionally until Traning Camp or the actual NFL season begins.
Funny listening to the WQAM crew eating crow about all of this.. -

Ahhh yes Now We Can Finally Trade Him For A Draft Pick Or Somthing Worth Our While
But I think we all know That there will be No more Joey Porter In The Dolphins Facility. Cameron Wakes Time To Shine! -
Well you probably wont be happy much longer seeing as he'll probably just be released again in a month -
This is embarrassing.
who do you think places the call to Stephen Ross to tell him "UHHH...Boss...about that million dollars we were gonna save you...ahhhh...We kinda screwed that up." -
By waiving then having the waiver revoked, perhaps intentionally, the FO will know who has an interest in him and who was fronting Jeff Ireland.
Bonus due March 1, cannot be waived until the 5th, after they pay him the bonus why would they waive him? He is not paid a salary until TC or the season begins... -

All this means is we likely have reached a deal with Karlos Dansby....we just won't hear about it for three more weeks.

who cares he's not gonna play, its Cam Wake time!
-
1) Cam Wake did not prove he could play in space, so the same people with the Cam-Wake-is-the-new-starter-pom-poms better remember that is he looks bad in pass coverage againt RBs and TEs.
2) I kept saying how much I wanted us to trade Porter LAST offseason while his stock was high. I wish the regime ahd done it then! It was so obvious this old, injury-nagged guy was HIGHLY unlikely to rpeat his pace as he got another year older. Not to mention, I didn;t think he was good against the run that year (2008) anyways, so why the heck not trade him while his stock is high! You had no know he'd never be as good again as he was off that 17.5 sack season. We could have gotten a second round pick for him, I'll bet! Am I the only person on earth who was so convinced he should be traded at his market peak last offseason??
We better get something for this loudmouthed thug. Roth left for nothing. We are about to let a guy with over 25 sacks in two years go for NOTHING.
Meanwhile the Pats have accumulated about a THOUSAND first day draft picks in this year's draft.
I just don't get it.Colmax, late again and resnor like this. -
So, wait. We get to cut him, they ship him back, and we get to cut him again?
So.. we get to cut him twice and only take one hit?
Dude, that's awesome. It's like exacting vengeance the way it's supposed to be done. The G Man likes this. -

Joey Porter is [still] a Miami Dolphin.
Let's turn those thumbs this way:  -
I'm reading somewhere his bonus isnt due to 3/9, if so that gives them 4 days....oh yeah Cap on Twitter...check it, if that the case, why not hold on to him??
caplannfl
Porter's $1 M roster bonus was due on 3/9, source said. Welcome to the Cameron Wake era? -
He will not be traded. There are absolutely no takers. You'd be crazy to make that deal (opposing GM).
This rejoicing about getting another shot at making a deal is silly IMO.

Muck I know, I got screamed at on here about saying theres no value in him, but you never know...the point is right March 5 opens up, 90% sure he signs with somebody within 2 days.....i'd paid the 1.2, and hold on to him....you know the following will happen...
A) he holds out......great big fines daily,
B) he doesnt hold out, and we deal with him all year, and just becnh him (unlikely)
C) somebody sees that and gives Miami anything in a trade before camp opens up,
D) camp/season opens up, and somebody else on another team suffers an injury, and trades alla Penny and Thiggy
the last thing I would do is just cut him 3/5....it sends the wrong message, for the second time (including Roth) that you can open your mouth or have a beef with the front office and get cut....these players are copy cats and will all start doing it in Miami....how about play hard ball with this guy, and possibly, trade him somewhere undesirable....
I think if you called Detroit and said "Porter for a 7th" they'd do it, what other options do they have at 7!?!?!?LandShark13 likes this. -
Porter wants to be cut. This is his last chance for another big signing bonus. As such, he has spouted off at the mouth, and I cannot fault him for trying to do what is best for him.
However, he is playing poker with Tuna. This is not normally a good thing for a player to do. I still expect a trade, and JP playing for his existing contract number.
Our FO is GREAT. I believe this "mistake" was made on purpose. JMO -
Porter has some supporters in that locker room. And not all of them are bad apples.
You hang onto him out of spite and players (current and potential) are going to sour.
Again, he was going to be cut anyway. This isn't a Josh Cribbs situation where the player is in his prime. At this point, Porter is basically an aging, one-dimensional player with a mouth that doesn't follow the program.
Is it really worth the aggravation and locker room distraction to keep him around?

The guy was basically lost for the last few games in '08 save for a timely sack against SF. He really was a non-factor in the last few games. Was he injured? Maybe? But Miami had a chance to really get some value for him at the highest point of his career. I remember telling myself that he really looked like a shell of himself in the last quarter or so of the season. He was not as fast off the line, he lost some power, etc. In his defense, getting double-teamed for a season took a toll on his body. But that's my point, he withered out at the end.
Also, time and time again, Porter seemed lost in the mix during a run or a pass out to the flats. He simply only wants to rush the QB, IMO. Sure, he had 9.0 sacks in '09, so he still has some value. But I would hate for Miami to simply just release the guy without getting something for him. Even a 4th would be fantastic (which I see as his true trade value).
You're absolutely right, Miami should have struck while the iron was still hot. I really felt that. It really is a disappointment that they did not, but I guess Miami really did not have faith in a potential replacement? I am sure a trade at the end of '08 crossed their minds. It had to have..... -

interesting development:
1) a result of an over zealous individuals who pulled the trigger on Porter before networking the legality & business end? doubt that it would happen. not the parcellian way of conducting franchise business.
2) Did Dawn Aponte (the ultimate professional & best versed individual in the NFL in capology) w/ only weeks into her new job in the franchise miss something, creating a critical error & embarrassment for the club? could be, but I don't think so...3) Is Bill Parcells yanking Porters chains, just to aggravate him, showing the world in an obtuse & rude way that Porter still has an owner? Is this payback? Did the FrontOffice ever intend to let him go w/o a trade or deal of some sort closed first? bingo! The G Man likes this. -
PorterGate Speculation::
1) Was it the result of over zealous individuals who pulled the trigger on Porter before networking the legality & business end of the deal? doubt that it would happen. not the parcellian way of conducting franchise business. not likely
2) Did Dawn Aponte (the ultimate professional & best versed individual in the NFL in capology) w/ only weeks into her new job in the franchise miss something, creating a critical error & embarrassment for the club? could be, but I don't think so...that would be very unlikely
3) Is Bill Parcells yanking Porters chains, just to aggravate him, showing the world in an obtuse & rude way that Porter still has an owner, not just a a big mouth? Is this payback? Did the FrontOffice ever intend to really let him go w/o a trade or deal of some sort closed first? bingo! -
Think we'll ever know?? I don't.
