There's absolutely no way Ireland gambles on Patterson. It's just not his style.

 

Tannehill was an exception due to Sherman's knowledge of the player. Miller was a fairly productive 4th round pick. Both are exceptions to the rule. It would take Patterson 3 years to learn the play book and Ireland doesn't have time. Patterson will not be the pick.

Ireland was on Tannehill before they hired Sherman. Having Mike Sherman may have sealed the deal, but Jeff Ireland was high on Tannehill before the coaching change.

 

Because every report I have read says he is dumber than a fence post.

 

Tannehill was the do or die pick for Jeff, and with Sherman's knowledge and Ireland being high on him there wasn't really another choice. Lamar Miller was projected to go before we picked him so he was considered a "steal" when we picked him in the 4th round.

 

He "violated his principles" for Tannehill and he let it be known. He also said this about Miller, "We just felt like he was too good of value to pass up" and he had not made a trade yet (which is "his style") so....

 

Not saying they don't need a QB because they absolutely do but I have a hard time believing the Jets will take a QB that high with so much money already tied up at that position. Then again it's the Jets

 

With the amount of money they have to pay a top 10 pick, if they are not 100% sold on Sanchez and they are sold on a 1st round quarterback, they would be fools to not take a quarterback in the first round.

 

Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but if you are Jeff Ireland would you spend your first round pick on a project knowing your job is on the line? Not me . I'm taking a safe pick that will put points on the board: Tyler Eifert.

 

I really do think Keenan Allen is the guy they'd draft, and then compare him to Anquan Boldin.

Just more film and a more polished Wr right now.

That can change if Ireland defaults to type and trades for a Miles Austin, which is what I mostly expect tbh.

I think your problem is believing everything you read.

 

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say Patterson has the most upside. It is from what I have heard and read. There are more of a sure thing WR's available that might not have as high of a ceiling. This might be the unknown on what Ireland will do. Gamble or take the most sure thing.

 

Well I heard on NFL radio that GM's were not impressed with Patterson's interview. Good thing Jeff Ireland is not known to ask tough questions. LOL

 

I've never heard a radio talk show site sources. They always say "GM's we've spoken to".

Also , given lax academic standards for college athletes, I'm always skeptical of JUCO guys.

At this time of year that sort of stuff is the very last thing you should believe.

 

Why? The evidence suggest this is probably true? How else can you explain the JUCO thing when it's so easy for college athletes to qualify academically?

 

Because lots of people have reasons why beyond academics that make them struggle at school. He might have had issues at home with his parents, he might have been dyslexic, he might have been strong academically but poor in exam room settings, there's a myriad of reasons rather than just saying he's as thick as dust and he's a JUCO thus you don't trust him and he's doomed for failure.

 

Come on man. This is college football. There are no academic standards. Especially in the SEC.

could be that no college of his liking gave him a scholarship offer so he decided to go to a JUCO before going to a four year school. I dont think it happens as much in football but I know a bunch of kids that have gone that route in baseball. Heck, look at the guy from Buffalo.. he was a JUCO player because he didnt get recruited out of HS.
