Post Draft Power Rankings/Dolphins Drop

For now, I think #24 is fair.

But over time, this team will only get better, since we got rid of Jeff Ireland and Mike Sherman.

Since I think the Dolphins will probably finish at 7-9 or possibly 8-8 this coming season. I think their power ranking at this time is about right.

So its your opinion that even though we did things like get rid of ireland & sherman and fix our oline, we made no progress whatsoever?

I love how Atlanta signs Jon Asamoah and draft Jake Matthews to fix their OL and jump 12 spots up but we sign Albert and draft James and fall 6 spots down.

We also lost Paul Soliai, our secondary might be worse, and Hartline, Gibson, Binns are coming off knee injuries.

At this moment, I think it's a wash. If Lazor/Tannehill/Wallace can get on the same page with the deep ball, then maybe we can make a playoff run.

I think it's a bit harsh, but it's ESPN, and we just don't seem to get any love from them anymore. Bottom line, it's all gonna shake out on the field in a few months (that's right, preseason starts in just 12 weeks). So, we'll just have to wait and see. Personally, I think we did more to help ourselves than hurt ourselves. But, like I said...we'll just have to wait and see.

I personally love it when we are under the radar, we usually do well in those situations. What this team needs to learn to do is win games when they matter most and when everything is on the line, that's when they normally stumble.

I WOULD rather win 3 or 4 games next season then to go 8-8 or 7-9 but that is because I a m sick of being in the worst draft spot . I am not going to sweat the rankings because we could start out at #26 and rise up to 4 or 5 or vice versa.

my biggest concern is if Philbin improves or not and if we have anymore scandals or anymore fallout from last year's fiasco.

Hate!! Yes, "hate" is the appropriate word. Oh....how I hate the Dolphins 2014 offseason, let me count the ways.

I hated that we pursued the older and oft injured Brandon Allen instead of going great guns after the younger more talented Eugene Monroe, who is everything you want when looking for high character veterans to rebuild an OL.

I hate that the Cardinals were able to acquire Jared Veldheer for peanuts. I would have given him a 6 year deal with tons of guaranteed money and played him at RT.

I hate that we spent big money on the aging Grimes when what the doctor was ordering were some younger veterans that were of high character and exceptional leadership qualities. Alteraun Verner was the better choice. Another guy I would have given a 6 year deal with tons of guaranteed money to. I also would have signed Peanut Tillman, the ultimate in a veteran mentor guys like Jamar Taylor and Will Davis.

I hate that we didn't sign even one experienced starter to the OG position. Shelley Smith saw playing time with the Rams but he was never a starter. He played because of injuries. I am fine with the player but I would not have gone into the draft with a gaping hole a two positions on the OL. I wouldn't have had a hole anywhere with the cap room we had available.

I hate that we didn't convert to a base 3-4 and fire Coyle and hire a 3-4 DC.

I would have let the 30 year old Starks walk and signed the 25 year old Linval Joseph to play NT.

I hate how the cap was managed. I would have traded Moore for a late round pick or released him. I also would have traded Garner and Jimmy Wilson or released them. 7 mil in cap that would have paid for Veldheer.

I would still sign Travelle Wharton OG.

I didn't hate the Delmas signing but I would played Peanut at safety and drafted Antone Exum to groom as safety as well.

The draft would have gone more like this: Trade down into the late 1st and add a 3rd. Trade down with the Vikes and add a 4th . Trade down again to the late 2nd and garner a 3rd, there would have been multiple opportunities according to the way things went.

Then draft:
2nd round........Troy Niklas....Best blocking TE in the draft and a legitimate red zone threat.
2nd round........Jarvis Landry
3rd.................Billy Turner....LT/RT/RG/LG Garner's replacement and a future starting OG
3rd.................Trade down add another 4th....CB Ross Cockrell...real leadership and brilliance
3rd ...............Bruce Ellington WR/KR/PR
4th................Carl Bradford LB
4th.................Caraun Reid DT/DE
4th................Brent Urban DE
5th.................Jordan Tripp LB
6th.................Quincy Enunwa WR

ESPN does at least have disdain for us. At least they remember to mention us.

Don't sleep on some of these rookies we drafted. I honestly think we will see more contribution from our rookies than we did last season. Jordan Tripp is going to be a steal I think, I am pretty excited about this pick for us. Maybe we did shore up the linebacker situation and just don't know it.
As for the secondary I feel like we have better football players at the position than last year, but we will see there as well. If Delmas, Grimes, and Jones can stay healthy I actually like our secondary better than last season.
Overall it's way too early to speculate anything.

Forget the Dolphins for the moment.

There's way too much movement across the board based on the NFL Draft.

As far as I can tell Vegas still has us about the same. They have us 10th in the AFC and anywhere from 23rd to 26th in the NFL.

I don't agree with half of what you said but I respect the effort and that you have a vision. I do agree with Monroe, the 3-4 and if the lightbulb comes on Jackson Jeffcoat would be the steal of the draft. Thing is, the lightbulb is unlikely to come of for him. He's not as dedicated nor consistent as his Dad.

Could some of it be based on the roster implications for vets who will be let go or released due to draft picks coming in? So not just what the draft picks add to the team, but what they take off of a roster too?

I keep going back and watching Tripp, I'm not sure how this kid lasted til the 6th, he's excellent in space, diagnoses pays, stays disciplined, explodes when he see it, 3 down defend the spread, middle linebacker..

Rarely spends time on the ground, can sift thru traffic to get to point b, head is always up watching the Qb and his reads, nice back pedal and lateral movement in coverage, has some Luke Kuechly in him, might take him longer to get up to speed, 10 more lbs of muscle but he has a chance to be real good, I'm a fan.

The movement may be too much but it's because they probably overestimated the Dolphins prior to the Draft. At least that is what Las Vegas would say.

The new power rankings from ESPN put us 10th in the AFC and 24th overall in the NFL.

Well, that's exactly how Vegas had us before the Draft. They have us 10th in futures odds for the AFC Championship and they have us tied with 6 other teams for 21st in Super Bowl odds. However, the Cleveland Browns who are tied with us in the Super Bowl odds have lower AFC Championship odds than us so we know that we are at least 26th in the rankings. Additionally, the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions have the exact same NFC Championship odds as the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, the latter of which have higher discrete Super Bowl odds than the Miami Dolphins. Therefore logically it's unlikely that their power ratings would rank us ahead of them. That's how I get 23rd to 26th.

Vegas and the national football community believe the Dolphins are primed to undergo another head coach change in 2015...at least. Doesn't mean they're right. But that's how they have it.

That's been the big question since Friday really...the most common question I've seen asked around. I think they said the same on television. For me it's Cooks and Moses, easy.

Really trying to figure out how I slept on Tripp when I was desperate for a middle linebacker..

obviously it doesn't take away the extra pick we could of got for trading down..strait up I would agree, but we don't know the issues Lazor had with Moses so it blurs that some no?
