I was expecting that.

One would imagine this league source would have the names of those who turned interviews down.

I think they just don't have the balls to take on the challenge. We need a cocky, confident, and aggressive OC to give the unit some swagger who can handle the pressure of the fanbase sit on his shoulder. Pete Carmichael Jr. I really think could bring it but I can't see Tony taking him from his friend Sean. I think Tony knows his nuts are still on the chopping block and he'll go aggressive after the right guy, I hope.

Obtain two quarterbacks, at least one through the draft; let Incognito compete with Berger for the starting center job, since Incognito looked decent there when he played; give John Jerry a chance to actually play RG for more than five minutes, particularly since he really shouldn’t have played at all this season to begin with; draft at least one, possibly two, running backs in a year when the RB position is extremely deep in the draft. Now coach these players competently, something that has been missing under David Lee and Dan Henning.
I suspect you’ll see a rather rapid turnaround under the right coaches… assuming Jeff Ireland doesn’t fall to the temptation of draft day value and come out with four linebackers again.MarinePhinFan and late again like this. -
if the unit isnt " a swirling vortex of suck", what term should describe the 31st ranked offense in the NFL?

Lockout around the corner, bring in a new OC with a new System, who exactly are they going to teach it to?
The players will be banned from the facilities do you really wish to start over from scratch? -
The Dolphins offense, like pretty much every other offense in the NFL, is a quarterback away. This isn’t the best year to get a new QB, thanks to a potential lack of free agency as well as so many teams drafting ahead of us that also need QBs, but it’s do-able if the organization has sufficient conviction on a guy. Whether it’s Vince Young or Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton or Pat Devlin or Kyle Orton or someone else, there are options. I remember similar pessimism about the defense last year. We turned it around and fielded an upper echelon unit in 2010, one that would have been elite if it could intercept the damn ball.
But I guess that analysis doesn’t fit the “let’s set ourselves on fire and jump off a bridge” mentality around here.Stringer Bell, MarinePhinFan and late again like this. -

I'm still with Henne.
I have to see a different look for this guy before I'll cave on the young QB.
Henning gave this offense concrete feet. There were a lot of variables.GMJohnson and MarinePhinFan like this. -
John Jerry shouldn’t have played at all this year: he wasn’t ready. He will be for 2011. Incognito was playing out of position at LG, but looked much better than Berger at C, so he gives some hope and should be allowed to at least compete at C. LG is the trickiest position, but if there’s some sort of free agency, we’re going to throw the bank at Logan Mankins.
Wait and see. -

Desides, if they dont upgrade TE this offseason they probably never will. Lots of options in FA and the draft. I simply was disagreeing with you this team is a qb away, at which point it seems you agree with all the needs I listed. Of course they need a QB, they have since Marino. Whats new?

Use that guy up.
He stood on the sideline a lot early in the season. There were opinions here we were saving him for later in the season.
Then they march Ronnie out in the WC. Made me nuts.
Ronnie will hit the bricks as well. Won't break my heart. You draft a RB that early without a second gear. Shame on them.
Garner will be back to help the OL but...... This offense is a tall order.Ricky'sBong likes this. -

"A league source said some of the candidates the Dolphins have inquired about have turned down the opportunity to interview."
These candidates obviously know a classless owner when they see one. Honestly; would you work for this guy?? This is the worse and most ill-mannered owners in football and now the franchise is playing the price. This guy is Steinbrenner with 1/3 of the brains and 3 times the balls. When a mild mannered guy like Ricky Williams speaks out saying that he wants to leave the team and gives a full list of reasons why - people around the league obviously started to listen.
The parcells experiment has officially failed us. -
But no, there are no good tight end options this year. We’ll add a backup if we can, but we’re not going to magically add the next Tony Gonzalez this year. -

Earlier in the season, protection was impressive, but once the wheels came off, the leaks along the line soon followed.
An upgrade at TE would certainly help, but with Marshall and Bess, it isn't like were completely toothless. As for the running game, I don't think its ever been what it could have since Henning arrived.
The dual system of sharing never let either runner effectively produce. Last year, Ricky finally had an opportunity to be somewhat of a featured back, and with less than half a season after Ronnie went down, managed to gain over 1100 yds and 11 TDs. Comparatively he got 4 in 2008 despite making the playoffs, and 2 this year. -
And let’s say for the sake of argument that the 2011 TE class is high quality; we’re still not drafting those top names because we have other, more important needs. So it’s a moot argument. -
SPARANO GTFO
IRELAND GTFO
ALL SCOUTS GTFO
EVERY COACH LEFT NOT NAMED NOLAN GTFO
Then pay absurd money for one of the big names and
let them rebuild from the ground on up
I've been a fan for 42 years...I can wait a few more
but I can't wait to watch such incompetence
and crap they have shown the past two years
even worse is how bad we have gotten of late -
And we DON'T have a 2nd round pick. So your saying all we have to do is get 2 QBs, 2 RBs, and OL and we will have a quick turnaround. Realistically, how often does that happen? Takes time to build an offense.
This draft class does not appear to have a franchise QB or RB in it. And we are drafting at pick 15. Yet, it sounds like you seem to think this will be easily done. If we take a QB in round 1, then a RB will have to wait until round 3. How often do teams find legit OL to start in round 4 or below. Or do we draft a RB in round 1, and OL in round 3, and a QB in round 4....However it plays out in the draft, ALL would have to pan out as rookies. Don't think so!
There will be nothing easy about turning this offense around. If team has a losing record again next year I can't imagine Ross not cleaning house when it comes to the coaching staff. HC gone, OC gone... -

Also Ricky Williams is mild mannered, he's a ****ing head case. Always has been. -
We’ll acquire those two quarterbacks somehow. One of those two will start.
It’s worth noting for 2011 that having a losing season under a rookie QB is different from having a losing season under a third year QB. If Sparano thinks he can win now and buy himself another season by starting a rookie, then he’s starting a rookie.
We can also trade picks from next year to grab guys this year. Need to move up from #15 overall because you’re afraid of Blaine Gabbert being snagged up by Washington? Trade the #15 pick this year and next year’s 1st round pick to Dallas, move up, get the guy.
It’s entirely possible to restock this offense in an offseason. We did it with the defense last year.
We have plenty of options. Don’t convince yourself otherwise. Or if you’re truly convinced that we’re going be even worse next year, leave this site, ignore the draft, forget the CBA negotiations, ignore the 2011 season, and come back January 2012. The Miami Heat will help you pass the time.
-
well, if a TE in this draft class is the highest rated player on the board when the Phins pick, Id take him. Kyle Rudolph, DJ Williams, Lance Kendricks or the kid from S Carolina Id take on my team any day of the week. so we can agree to disagree there. the reality is no QB worth taking may be there at 15. so you have to take someone, or trade back.
-
Being conservative and unaggressive on the quarterback position is why we’re here in 2011 with no QB and an argument in the first place. Ireland’s been outmaneuvered twice on two big targets; he was content to wait at #32 overall in 2008 for Joe Flacco to fall, and he was content to wait for Jimmy Graham to fall to the 3rd round in 2010. Both times he whiffed on guys he had a conviction for because he was content to wait.
No more. -
great in theory. what ammunition does Miami have to get into the 2-9 range?
