I hate say it but i think Roth could be traded on draft day, with Wake and Charlie Anderson pushing for playing time

With all the talk of selecting a TE in the draft this year, be it Pettigrew in the first, or someone like Coffman or Casey in the 2-3 rounds, I would add David Martin to the list.
Interesting that several of the players mentioned will/could be FAs after this coming season.
Obviously the staff isnt bringing back all of them, but it would be interesting and nice to see if we could grab a few picks for some of them.ToddsPhins, gunn34 and Big E like this. -

I have heard Sparano mention Roth a couple of times in a very good way. I get the impression Roth is one of his 'guys' so I find it hard to believe they would trade him, unless they were offered something to good to be true. Are they shopping him?.....I doubt it. He is a high motor, very strong guy whose biggest fault I have seen is ........having a change of direction problem. He is definitely a straight ahead player. When he misses the QB, it takes him a while to stop and change directions to have another go at him. It is kinda funny to watch........then again it aint.

He'll trade Roth if he can't find a place to put him on the field ... that' the problem with Roth, and his place on this team. If the FO believes that he can't significantly improve on last years performance at OLB - despite his weight ... then they will / must move him.
-
ya your right i would hate to see him go he is one of my fav players plus In Flames would have to make me a new sig...:wink2:Big E likes this. -
Roth has been fun to watch and his transition to OLB has served our defense well against the run, but can he drop back into coverage reliably? The answer is no. With the acquisition of Wake and hopefully Stintim, Barwin, Kruger, Johnson (you get my point) through the draft, I see no reason whatsoever why we couldn't trade Roth for a pick.
He would be a great 4-3 DE and is a proven run stopper. What could we get for him? He is due to be a free agent after this year so he will be playing his tail off even more so than usual. So whatever team picks him up would get a high motor player out to prove something.
That said I wouldn't take less than a low 3rd for him. It all depends on if he is in the cards for the future or not. -

There are very few players in the league with Ronnie's level of enthusiasm, attitude, spirit, and character. This will be highly valuable over the next few years as he grows into a true veteran whom everyone on the team looks up to and admires.
Ronnie's the kind of guy who makes other's give 100% just by his mere presence alone. Slacking around him almost makes you feel like you're slacking around Jesus. LOL. Then you surround your team with players of similar character and they will all look to Ronnie for leadership.... and he will provide it.
IMO that makes him irreplaceable at all costs.Puka-head, RickyNeverInhaled and FinFan_Est.1984 like this. -
Shoot in one season at OLB Roth accrued 1/2 sack less than Charlie Anderson has in his entire career.
It seemed to me last year most of the players we traded were players who didn't fit (Booker and Daniels) or didn't want to fit (Taylor).
Instead, I think they'll work on resigning Roth. Much the same way they did other solid contributors - Carey, Bell, etc.Big E likes this. -
The problem with Omar's list is that it contains too many free agents to be. And the notion that someone would be willing to inherit Ernest Wilford's contract, even for a late round pick, is way off-base IMO. -

Matty Roth's problem in a nutshell is that he is going into his contract year, that makes him a roadblock on any sort of 3 year rebuild plan because it's year two, and Roth is still starting, if a Rook or Wake played they would have more value moving forward then Roth would, even though I love the guy's style, it is what it is.
Trading Ronnie would be a nightmare though, if he went to the Pats, Ronnie is still in his prime, what makes him tradeable is the curious notion that a "running back is a running back" and there is nothing special about them, Tuna's bias is a mistake in that case. -
-
It was common knowledge Roth's forte was stopping the run, but generally either Anderson or Moses rotated in on passing downs. -
If Ronnie were to be traded it would be as far away as possible so we don't have to have him torch us twice a year like Welker does. -
Carey, Bell and Crowder weren't considered roadblocks.
If we're looking at Wake as primarily a pass rusher; then Roth is still valuable as a run stopper at OLB.
Joey Porter is 32 - he's a short term answer.
Regardless of potential any rookie is still a question mark. -
-
To myself, Roth's best is as a 2 down OLB who cannot cover particularly well, cannot blitz, and will be due a large contract because he does stop the run well.
Carey, Bell and Crowder all had proven themselves at their positions, especially Crowder and Carey, Roth has one year, if we draft a guy or Wake wins the job, their ceiling will be higher and we have them at a 4 year salary so we can save cap bucks.
Put it this way, Wake starts and has OJT time, he learns more the longer he plays, he is a much better athlete then Roth, and next season Wake will be a much more polished product then he is now, the value in starting Wake simply to speed up his learning curve will pay off more down the road in year 3 of the Tuna/Ireland rebuild.
INOW, Roth doesn't have THAT much potential to improve upon, Wake does, a Rookie would as well. -
-
In college he was a DE, right? So he's just learning pass rush from an upright position.
I know he's not all that athletic; but he's an effort guy - like Zack. And sometimes that effort can carry you a long ways.
I'm also not convinced he's going to ask for a blockbuster contract.
In any event; I'm just hoping that he stays because I think he can contribute. -
Roth could come into camp in the best shape he's been in since the Combine in 05 and have better coverage technique, he's that type of player.
Now if Wake wins the job we have more upside as far as getting after the Qb, but nothing is handed to anyone so Roth could still win the job outright.late again likes this. -

Like many here, I've suspected that Ronnie Brown would be on the outs for a while now; I actually first thought about it right when Parcells announced he would be taking over this team. There's a few positions that Parcells finds replaceable and one of them is Running Back. I would be surprised if they signed Brown long term. What I could see Ireland doing is slapping the franchise tag on him and then moving him for a draft pick.
Matt Roth I don't see being moved. As Disgustipate already noted, Roth is arguably the best linebacker at setting the edge. He's not a dominant pass rusher but he gets his share of important plays. He applies pressure on QB's at the least. If a rookie is brought in and starts ahead of Roth, I'd be surprised if you see Roth let go unless its via FA.
Will Allen is our best cornerback by far. He's a very good cornerback and is heavily underrated. However, it wouldn't shock me to see him get moved in next year or so. Why? It comes back to valuing positions. How much does Parcells value them? Very little. What about Ireland? I believe its one of his building blocks or something along those lines. I think he's a player that has to be watched in the next year or so, especially if they double up on the cornerback spot in the draft, which I think you'll see them do.
Color me surprised if you get anything back for Ndukwe and/or Jason Allen.
London, I don't see him being moved. Good special teamer and developing wide receiver. Fits the work ethic criteria here and is the only red zone target as of now. If he develops, which is a big IF, I could see him being a poor man's Vincent Jackson.
-
If we stay with Roth we are settling. We can and should do better, IMO
-
I still think the best Sell-High opportunity is Joey Porter. At his age, and with his past problems with his knees I would be very happy to move him for a 2nd round pick.
