Im not sure if they would go this thin on the O-line but if I were to take a player off it would be Wallace.
So what do you guys think will be our 53.
and go ahead tear my apart:couch:

I like it but agree o-line is thin, i say we drop Douglas, and one qb and get o-line depth on the tackles.
Oh and J allen over Smith is a bit prmature in my mind!RickyBobby likes this. -

Marques Douglas has an excellent shot at playing over 400 plays this yr, in fact it would not shock me if he started Opening Day over Odie.
Tough to tell right now, imho Sparano is saying "90% of the roster is settled" but #48-#53 are still wide open..and I think they add 1 or 2 players off of the waiver wire.Big Red and RickyBobby like this. -
-
I trying to get a defensive guy out to give some oline help to rickys list which i like. I also see w.Allen or Garner going on reserve. I guess maybe Grant or Francis go on PS if eligible. But they are lighting it up for new guys imo
But yeah i need more info on Douglas now that you think his play count is that high. Sparano loves that stuff.RickyBobby likes this. -
I'll make my list under the assumption that we don't add anyone from other rosters. We probably will, so I'll guarantee my list won't be correct. But if I'm Jeff Ireland, these are my 53 I take to Buffalo. I'll even put an * by the players I'll mark inactive for the 45-man game day roster.

Some notes:
- Thigpen is the emergency 3rd QB.
- I'll keep Hilliard on the 53 in case of injury; he brings a little something to the party.
- I'm only keeping 4 WRs as that's typically how many we have active on game days. I think it's a safe assumption that if you put someone like Pruitt and/or Wallace on the PS, they won't be poached, and can be called up if need be.
- I'll deactivate Haynos due to the injury, otherwise I'd only keep 3 WRs active, which is something we've done in the past. The '08 wild-card game comes to mind.
- I'll deactivate Nate Garner but keep him on the roster until that foot is healed; far to valuable to not stick. Donald Thomas gets deactivated on gamedays as Murtha is now the swing tackle (I'd hope this is one area we look at after cuts!!!)
- I think Chris McCoy gets the Lionel Dotson treatment right now, and Micah Johnson looks good enough to keep. If he can play special teams, then you might be able to activate him on gamedays, but for now, he won't dress.
- I'll keep Will Allen around for now, but it wouldn't shock me at all if he's a salary cap casualty if he's not recovered soon.
Some of my tougher cuts include Patrick Turner, Lionel Dotson, and Quentin Moses.
Turner - you'd have hoped he could show more than Moore, but I haven't seen it.
Dotson - I'd like to keep one young guy behind Odrick and Langford, but the savvy vets (Douglas, McDaniel, Grant) send him packing.
Moses - I almost trust the devil we know, more than the devil we don't know much about yet (Alama-Francis).
I'll add Nate Ness up there as well. Perhaps you keep him if Will Allen is goner now that we have Sapp and Carroll both working the nickel CB spot. Jason Allen gives you some versatility as well, so perhaps Reshad Jones might be feeling the heat a little bit as well.Phinperor, GridIronKing34, RickyBobby and 1 other person like this. -

Here's my prediction, which is assuming Haynos is badly injured.
The biggest surprises I predict are 1) keeping White on the roster (as an active WR), 2) having Jonathan Amaya and Micah Johnson make the 53, 3) keeping Turner on the roster, and 4) carrying only two active TEs on the 53.
The toughest cuts for me (in order) were Proctor, Hilliard, Murtha, Dotson and JD Folsom.
Best candidates for a trade moving forward into the end of preseason are probably Thigpen, Douglas or Grant (allowing us to keep Dotson), and Q. Moses

I can't imagine our team only rostering two TEs either, especially considering our propensity for 2 TE sets.Big Red and RickyBobby like this. -
I think youve almost hit it head on to be honest. My exceptions would be that im pretty certain we'll keep 5 WR and the 5th will be either turner or wallace. Also, in my personal opinion i think we keep white and thigpen is gone. Besides that, nicely done:up:RoninFin4 likes this. -

There is a reason teams typically don't go through the season with 4 WRs on their 53 man roster. If one ever got nicked up, they'd have to cut someone just to bring a guy in.
Sure we have gone through games with 3 healthy WRs before, and in those games we've struggled passing the ball. Badly.RickyBobby likes this. -
I could see us bringing in a more experienced TE for the reason you describe (which would probably bump a guy like Amaya to the PS). A couple decent guys will probably be floating around after teams cut down. There's a battle between Quarless and Tom Crabtree up in Green Bay for the last TE spot worth watching. I refuse to believe that Nalbone is an adequate #3 TE at this point. -
I'd agree, nothing Nalbone has shown makes me think he's an adequate #3. Not sure they'd bring someone in though (at least not right away). -
I don't think it's out of the question to keep Pruitt and/or Wallce on the practice squad. If a WR does get dinged up, I don't think it'd be a problem to slide one or both of them through and call them up. You still have an injured Will Allen and Nate Garner on the roster, and you can still eliminate that 4th RB, 4th ILB, etc. -

I see us wanting to protect Carroll, Moore, Wallace, Spitler, McCoy and Amaya
And we have invested in Dotson, Baker, Murtha, Hartline, Pruitt, and Turner ... but roster spots are tough to come by -- so tough decisions will need to be made as to how we can hold on to these guys, since none seemed poised to make a significant contribution this year.
Haynos, Garner, W Allen could all be placed on the injured roster and give us 1/2 the season for them to heal and for us to see where we stand before activating them. Garner would automatic, but Haynos and Allen might not be ....
We 'may' find a way to stash another 1 or 2 of the developmental guys on IR as well to protect them for next year, knowing that they aren't ready for this year .... so we don't have to expose them to the PS -- like we did with Murtha last year ....
Guys like Sapp (DB) and Anderson (LB) will be important in that they can play multiple positions ...
I still maintain that we aren't happy with our OLB and S positions -- and will probably make a move sometime in the next 10 days to bolster the roster .... -
There is a snow balls chance in hell that Gardner makes the team ahead of Murtha.

I paid close attention to special teams in the Atlanta game. For the most part we know who the starters are on offense and defense. Based on what I saw Friday night these are our starters on special teams:
1. Brandon Fields / Dan Carpenter
2. Patrick Cobbs
3. Lex Hillard
4. Roberto Wallace (played every snap on special teams)
5. Micah Johnson (played every snap on special teams)
6. Charlie Anderson
7. Erik Walden
8. Benny Sapp
9. Tyrone Culver
10. Nolan Carroll
11. Jason Allen
12. Kevin Hobbs
13. John Denney (on punts and field goals)
Those guys were fixtures on special teams. Bodes well for the rookies (Wallace and Johnson) as well as Jason Allen and Kevin Hobbs.
Guys who didn't play on special teams at all: Julius Pruitt, Chris McCoy, Quentin Moses, J.D. Folsom, Rolly Lumbala, John Nalbone, and Ross Weaver. That does not bode well for them.
Guys who played on special teams a little bit in the second half: David Martin, Lou Polite, Tim Dobbins, Ikaika Alama-Francis, Austin Spitler, Jonathan Amaya, Reshad Jones, and Nate Ness.
Marlon Moore returned one kick but other than that he didn't play at all on special teams.
Joey Haynos was a key blocker on the field goal unit. Now that he is injured I don't know who will take his spot. Could be John Nalbone. Maybe Rolly Lumbala. Or neither.
So with all that in mind here is my final prediction for the 53 man roster:
QB: Chad Henne, Chad Pennington, Tyler Thigpen
WR: Brandon Marshall, Patrick Turner, Roberto Wallace
WR: Brian Hartline, Davone Bess
RB: Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Patrick Cobbs, Lex Hilliard
FB: Lou Polite
TE: Anthony Fasano, David Martin, John Nalbone*
LT: Jake Long
LG: Richie Incognito, Lydon Murtha
C: Jake Grove, Joe Berger
RG: John Jerry, Donald Thomas
RT: Vernon Carey, Nate Garner
NT: Randy Starks, Paul Soliai
DE: Kendall Langford, Tony McDaniel
DE: Jared Odrick, Marques Douglas, Charles Grant
OLB: Cameron Wake, Charlie Anderson, Erik Walden
OLB: Koa Misi, Ikaika Alama-Francis
ILB: Karlos Dansby, Micah Johnson
ILB: Channing Crowder, Tim Dobbins
CB: Vontae Davis, Benny Sapp
CB: Sean Smith, Will Allen, Nolan Carroll
SS: Yeremiah Bell, Tyrone Culver
FS: Chris Clemons, Reshad Jones
K: Dan Carpenter
P: Brandon Fields
LS: John Denney
Practice squad: Chris McCoy, Austin Spitler, Marlon Moore, Jonathon Amaya, Andrew Gardner, Andrew Hartline, Nate Ness (if he is still eligible)
Cut: Pat White, Jason Allen, Quentin Moses, Lionel Dotson, Ryan Baker, Montavious Stanley, Julius Pruitt, J.D. Folsom, Rolly Lumbala, Ray Feinga, Ross Weaver, Kevin Hobbs
*John Nalbone is the first one cut if we pick up a player cut from another team. -
I'd like to toot my own horn about the Haynos thing. If I had to revise mine, I'd probably put Walden in over Q. Moses because of his special teams value.
And since I clearly don't understand the PUP, W. Allen needs to slide back in at the expense of someone, probably Micah Johnson or Amaya. -

Big Red .... i think we are mostly on the same page ... i know we've talked Walden before -- and not sure they'll keep him 'just' for STs ... unless he is some super stud -- which i haven't heard (haven't had time to watch the last 2 games yet).
Have no issue with Wallace over Moore/Pruitt based on STs .... especially with his size and 'potential'
For Murtha over Gardner (even though you have him at G) ... had high hopes for Gardner when we drafted him -- but also saw the value and how quickly we picked up Murtha and stashed him away to protect him, so i'm good either way ... i did say earlier this year that Murtha had a 'chance' to stick if he could prove himself a Garner-esque type lineman since we seem to like Ts to mold into Gs -- so, looks like he has ... which is very good for us
I still think we are a little short at OLB and S ... and maybe TE -- but i'll still give Nalbone a small window, so we'll pick up a few folks during the cut down periods ....
I haven't seen Johnson, but he is getting some pretty good reports on this site -- and since we don't really have any other serious ILB ... have no issue with him carving out a spot.
I don't see J Allen on your roster .... which will cause some angst with some folks here

Friend PHINANALYST:
both Murtha & Garner are multi-positional... I believe we will carry nine offensive linesmen, not eight. Garner works exceptionally well w/Long @ LG & can play across the middle to RT. Carey is the LT back-up & Murtha would back him up @ RT. Lyndon Murtha has exceptionable speed & good hands for an offensive linesman & can be utilized as a blocking TE or H-Back. I think Thomas will be the back-up @ RG. I'd take Moses over Walden @ OLB. -
The trade for Benny Sapp doesn't tell us anything because Sapp plays special teams as well as the nickel. Jason is a special teamer and Will was playing the nickel. So which one is Sapp replacing? We will find out in about a week.
Reshad Jones is safe. Especially if we cut Jason Allen. Jones would take his place on special teams.
I don't see Amaya making the team. We usually only carry four safeties and he is not a standout on special teams.
I agree that Turner will stick.
We might only carry two tight ends for a day or so but if we cut Nalbone we will pick up a third tight end after other teams have made their cuts. We might even bring back Kory Sperry.
I forgot all about Proctor. Murtha will probably stick.
Hilliard is a starter on special teams. He will stick for sure. Plus he is a very good backup in case Ronnie or Ricky get injured.
Hate to see Dotson go. He was a stud in college. But that was then...

I don't know how serious Will Allen's injury is. But assuming Will Allen will be back in a few weeks then I believe Jason Allen will be cut.
