ProFootballTalk.com: Parcells won't keep Cameron
45 replies
According to ProFootballTalk.com, talk going around league circles says that Parcells is not expected to keep Cam Cameron but could throw Randy Mueller "a bone" and keep him in some capacity. One candidate they bring up for a head coach is Todd Haley who is an Asst. with Arizona and former Assistant under Parcells with Dallas.
Football is the ONLY sport
PFT says that Parcells is not expected to keep Cameron, not that he won't keep Cameron. Your phrasing suggests that PFT is reporting that Parcells has already made that particular decision. He has not, or at least he hasn't told anyone.

PARCELLS NOT EXPECTED TO KEEP CAMERON
Though it remains to be seen what new Dolphins poobah Bill Parcells will do with the guys who were running the show before his arrival, the talk in league circles is that first-year coach Cam Cameron will get tossed by the Tuna.
However, some league insiders think that Parcells might throw G.M. Randy Mueller a bone. Whether that means he'll remain as the General Manager or be offered another position in the organization remains to be seen.
As to potential head-coaching candidates, keep an eye on Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley. The first-year Arizona assistant was the receivers coach under Parcells last season in Dallas. (Haley also had a run-in with receiver Terrell Owens in 2006, which would only make him more attractive to Parcells.)
The reality is that whoever gets the job will have to accept having a head coach emeritus peering constantly over his shoulder, and possibly offering micromanagement that might be viewed as unwanted.
Also, and as Adam Schefter of NFL Network previously reported, league insiders expect that Parcells will take aim at multiple Cowboys who become available in the free-agent market.
Basically it's just a summation of speculation and no-brainers. Parcells pursuing free agent Cowboys? You don't say. Parcells considering retaining the incumbent GM before the draft? You don't say. 1-14 coach considered to have one foot out the door? You don't say.

I hope it's accurate.
Well I think if anyone believes Parcells DOESN'T give Cameron the axe they are fooling themselves. Cam's days are numbered. He's a goner. Engrave that in stone. Parcells will want his own guy. Even his former players are saying the same thing.

Fred Flintstone style
I said it before on here and got flamed, but I think Cam will be the first to go.
Based on what Parcells said he wants in a coach, it seems almost like he is pointing out exactly the things that Cam has done very poorly with. Game management and being able to run a 'professional team'.
Cam still doesn't grasp the concept of putting those 3 points on the board and BUILDING FROM THERE.
In that Pats game we could have had 13 points before the 4th quarter if he woud have just kicked those two field goals and if Lemon (who also has his head up his arse) would have just dove for it, instead of skipping out of bounds like a cheerleader.:(
hopefully its accurate

Except Parcells has also stated that the Patriots game was the first Dolphins game he's seen this year.

If you're down by three scores, you need seven points on a drive, not three.

If you have more than half the game to go, you're playing to tie and NOT TO WIN if you are willing to gamble on 4th down when those 3 points are right there to be taken.
This is exactly what the phrase; 'poor game management' means.
This is why we only have one game in the victory column, Cam has repeatedly made that same mistake. If Cam knows our offense is woefully lacking in talent, then why gamble on 4th down, when they can't make anything happen on 1st, 2nd or 3rd down?
Kick the 3 points and play the game. Don't lose your cool.

There's another phrase that's relevant here: "nothing to lose."
It's amazing how we finally get a coach who shows some aggression after years of pining for just that, and everyone turns around and criticizes the guy for going for it.

Ya, but that doesn't mean you have to be stupid with it. Just look at Mularkey, aggressive when he needed to be conservative didnt benefit this team last year.
When was Mularkey ever aggresive? He was the most conservative, crappy play caller I've ever seen. As to Cameron going for it...the only plays I had issues with were the third and fourth down plays in the second half, where he ran back to back play-action passes from about a foot away from the goal line. That was horrible. The question is, when you have an offense as bad as the Dolphins, and a defense that can't stop my hometown's Pee Wee football team, why would you kick a field goal, and expect that to have any affect on the game? Kicking a field goal once a half, while the other team drives the field multiple times on you, scoring TD's is dumb. Might as well go for it on fourth, and maybe get a TD that could ignite your team.

There is a big difference between going for it on 4th down, when you are outside field goal range and going for it once you are in field goal range.
Then the time element also has to be considered. If you have half the game to go and your only down by 3 scores I think you should kick the field goal.
If you're in the 4th quarter and time is running out, then it makes sense, but before halftime it is just plain st00pid.

I guess that's one way to look at it. I look at it differently. You need 3 TDs and a field goal to win. You can't score 21 points with one play anyway. Get the 3 points that are there to be taken and play the game. Once there are points on the scoreboard then the team has something to build on.
Mike Mularkey's name may as well be Mike Wannstedt. He's that conservative and always plays scared. He plays not to lose instead of playing to win.

Um, not down by three scores, down by FOUR touchdowns. Big difference there. I love the revisionist history that goes on with these debates. 28 points becomes 3 scores, like three field goals and we’re back in it baby!

Kick a field goal? What coach in the NFL would think of that on 4th down?
Spiking the ball with a minute left theres the coach i want.

Aggression would be considered an emotion. The Cambot 2000 was not programed for that function, only holding the clipboard in front of his face and looking bored and tired at press conferences. Maybe the aggression you see is just a kid that played madden 1 to many times and doesn't realize this is the real deal. If you see an emotion come from Cam you let me know.
I don't think Cameron is a horrible coach or a bad guy, but I would not shed a tear if he is let go. He just seems rather lifeless on the sideline regardless of what the team is doing....lets get someone in there with a little fire and someone to inspire the troops.

Emotional, angry coaches make for great television--see Denny Green and Jon Gruden--but generally don't have a success rate higher than calm coaches like Dungy and Belichick.

You are confusing angry and emotional coaches, with those who bring intensity to the game.....guys like Cowher, Gruden, Billick still maintain their focus while not flying off the handle. Cameron just stands there with a goofy confused look on his face, staring at his play list.

theres a difference between calm and bored. Cam falls under the latter

And yet, Gruden won with Dungy's team, Cowher took 15 years with arguably the best organization in the NFL, and Billick has lost his team in ways that FHers think Cameron has lost his.
Trust me, I'm not confused. I'm not unclear on the difference between an emotional coach and an unemotional coach. I just happen to recognize that there's no correlation between a coach's sideline demeanor and the success of his team.

Dungy is probably the only unemotional coach who has won a SB. I just think Cameron has gotten over his head moving from the college game to the pros. It is very clear from his playcalling that he is not ready to be an NFL head coach. I also think too many people are apologizing for Cam by saying we don't have the talent.....but when you make the calls Cam makes, especially in the red zone, it shows he isn't ready for the NFL.
