I have read many threads that have said many things about the different QBs that we currently have and the QBs available in the draft and the QBs that will be free agents... However, I have yet to see a discussion centered around the QB position as of yet. And when I say "CENTERED" I mean the position alone without all the talk about Tuna and Cam and Randy, etc...
Let's discuss our QB situation and what prospects are out there that can fill the void for a year or 2 as a vet or the possibility of an immediate starter as a rookie draft pick...
I lifted the below list from Disgustipate , a fellow VIPer… Thanks for the effort DIS… I hope you don’t mind…
FA Quarterbacks
Player - Team - FA Type
Derek Anderson Cleveland RFA
Mark Brunell Washington UFA*
Todd Collins Washington UFA
Daunte Culpepper Oakland UFA
Ken Dorsey Cleveland UFA
Ryan Fitzpatrick Cincinnati RFA
Quinn Gray Jacksonville UFA
Rex Grossman Chicago UFA
Shaun Hill San Francisco UFA
Cleo Lemon Miami UFA
Jared Lorenzen New York Giants RFA
Jamie Martin New Orleans UFA
Josh McCown Oakland UFA
Dan Orlovsky Detroit RFA
J.T. O'Sullivan Detroit UFA
Chris Redman Atlanta UFA
Philip Rivers San Diego UFA*
Jim Sorgi Indianapolis UFA
Brian St. Pierre Pittsburgh UFA
Marques Tuiasosopo New York Jets UFA
QBs in the Draft
1. Matt Ryan, Boston College
2. Brian Brohm, Louisville
3. Joe Flacco, Delaware
4. Colt Brennan, Hawaii
5. Andre' Woodson, Kentucky
Now based on the above lists, what options do we have at securing a starter next year. How many of the guys above are starter quality? How many can be a starter in a year or 2 and what do we do in the mean time? Time for you all to step up and make your argument… Who in the list above will be starting, could be starting or challenge for a starting role on the FINS next year in your opinion?
We currently have GREEN, LEMON and BECK… Who would be a good replacement for anyone of these guys? Look at what’s available and make your argument!

You can throw Daunte Culpepper out of that Mix and for the Rookies i really like Colt Brennan and Andre' woodson if eather of those guys are aviable when its our 2b draft i say we should draft one of themLast edited: Dec 27, 2007 -

From that list
Mark Brunell Washington UFA* Parcells loves these types of dinosaurs
Todd Collins Washington UFA Is on the radar for alot of teams after his recent success
Josh McCown Oakland UFA Not due to his skillset but rather due to his toughness and grit
Chris Redman Atlanta UFA Not sure if he's a Parcells type but perhaps a possibility
Shaun Hill San Francisco UFA See above
Jim Sorgi Indianapolis UFA Seemed to have a decent command of the Indy offense few times he played
Drew Bledsoe dont think explanation is needed
Chad Pennington - I dont see it but the Parcells connection is there
Vinnie Testeverde - He just cant go another year right?
1. Matt Ryan, Boston College - I think Parcells will love this guy if sees him down in Mobile
2. Brian Brohm, Louisville - Nother ready to go QB. Injuries will be a concern but he throws a better deep ball than Ryan
3. Joe Flacco, Delaware - Parcells type but will he draft a small school QB
John Beck - His future will be determined by whether Parcells feels he is the type of leader other players will go through walls for
Cleo Lemon - Unless Parcells thinks he is going to improve he will be let go
Trent Green - Future might hinge on whether Cameron is retained. Parcells could be willing for Trent to be the vet on the squad -
Take Ken Dorsey off that list as he was re-signed to another contract by the Browns.

So we have some additional info on QBs... But we have no argument as to why we should change what we have in place... I don't think that we can get any better than what we have currently...
That is my argument and I wish to debate this.. -
Jared Lorenzen - New York Giants RFA looks pretty good for the "Hefty Lefty". He needs to drop some weight though. Just a thought...

Replacing Cleo Lemon will be the wildcard. Do you go with a young vet or do you draft a rookie. My bet is rookie is the way to go and I stand by stance that Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco will get long and hard looks from Parcells. Will he pass on the defense he so desires to shore up to address the most important position? I think that all comes down to how he feels about Beck. 4 year contract almost guarantees a drafted quarterback this year due to the time it takes for them to get the hang of the game -
We also know that Dallas had Quinn rated #7 overall in last year's draft so if Jeff Ireland comes in it is likely that he and BP will have viewed Mueller's picks as a mistake. Doens't mean they don't like Beck though. -

Agreed... But I just don't see Beck starting next year... Granted, the kid has some talent and can be a very good QB. The mess that he was thrown into was bad on every level... I hope it hasn't scared him.
There will be a compitetion for the QB spot next year without a doubt, but I believe that either Green or Lemon will be back in training camp next year. And for my money, I'd say that Green is our vet for next year...
He has much to offer to a rising QB and I don't see a vet out there that could unseat him... As far as a draft pick, I think we will draft another QB... It is a toss up between Brohm and Flacco though... -

I wouldn't mind seeing Josh McCown or Trent Green back.

So I think you're right that if you only look at next year we wont be improved at QB unless Beck makes dramatic improvement. But I do think we'll have one more piece added that may pay dividends in 2009 -

Great post, I get your point. We just don't know about Beck. Rookie qb on bad team is always going to be a disaster. And on your list all of those Qb's are either past their prime, just as unproven as Beck or Qb's that had their chances at success and are looked at as clear 2nd teamers. Rookies on the list, well you know about rookie qb's years to develop if they develop at all. There are know clear cut can't miss qb's this year in the draft. Myself I'm tired of the qb carasoul every year. And if you look around the league there is a minority of teams that you can say have proven years to come championship caliber qb's.That's why Derek Anderson may have to be my guy. He's young threw 30 td's. He's the most proven of any other qb in the draft or fa. I don't know if I want to take the chance of another bad year of qbacking. Yes we do have a lot of needs but we have to start somewhere. I don't know the answer to these questions. In Parcells I must trust!!!!

:bighug::ffic: I love ya man!!! BUT you must stay on topic!!!:hi5: -
If Cam stays I like Todd Collins and Phillip Rivers. Todd Collins could be our starter until Beck is ready or backup to Phillip Rivers. Collins knows the style offense and is better fundamentally than Lemon. Phillip Rivers would mean we move on past Beck.
Keep one thing in mind Trent Green May not retire. If he doesn't Collins would still be nice backup in case Beck isn't ready to play in case of injury.
Either way I don't feel we should draft a QB with the 1st pick. I like an LT (Jake Long) or DT (Dorsey). -
philip rivers is unrestricted?
