"Janikowski was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent if the Raiders didn't sign him or place the transition or franchise tag on him by Feb. 25. However, the team was able to lock him up by giving him the same contract that All-Pro punter Shane Lechler received last year to stay out of free agency."
Well I guess they have their kicker and punter locked up, now all they need is an offense and defense and coaching....and a front office. -
I thnk ST is a undervalued unit but for pete's sakes with all of their holes and owing Tommy Kelly 11 million (per AdamCaplan) in a bonus this year is pouring money at the kicker the way to deal with it?
-
Doesn't granny davis know he's a better than average kicker....nothing more?
Certainly glad I'm not a Raider fan  -
On the upside, this stooooopid move might actually help the Crypt keeper in the long run...
I mean, with this much counting against the Punter and Kicker on the cap, he might not be able to bring back:
Bust 1. Jamarcus, "I'm as big as a hippopotomus and throw like 1-2" Russell.
Bust 2. Darren "I run like a fairy princess, but am not as durable as one" McFadden.
Guess Dumb luck is better than no luck at all :confused2: -
I actually thought about franchising him in the GM league... I guess I have to now

Is this a horrible overpayment with regards to actual value? Sure.
But this is what Al is forced to do to keep any above average talent. No one wants to stay in Oakland so the only way to get a smattering of talent on your team is to draft them (which they have not been great at) trade for them (Seymore on a 1 year deal) or overpay them either in FA or when they are your guys and they are about to be FA's.
I cant even be mad at the raiders at this point, they are simply the hobby of a once highly competent person who has simply been passed by both the game as well as age and doesnt realize it. Its just sad to watch IMO.Stitches likes this. -
and I thought "The Jim Zorn play" was stupid.

Annnnnd the next thing ya know ol' Richard Seymour is bagged and tagged.
...."As expected, the Oakland Raiders just franchised former New England Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour at a cost of $12.398 million for 2010 but the two sides have been in ongoing contract negotiations on a long-term deal. Those talks are continuing.
Seymour recently told the Herald he would be “happy to stay with the Raiders and be a part of bringing them back to the playoffs.” That would be some accomplishment."....
SO..I'm going to feel safe in saying he was NOT a one year rental from the Pats. -
Sure glad he won't be back with the Cheatriots next year

Ol' Al Davis does it again. The guy is magic.
