How would you rank all the coaches since Shula? (Leaving out Sparano since he hasnt coached a game yet)
Id rank them:
Jimmy Johnson
Jim Bates
Dave Wannstedt
Nick Saban
Cam Cameron
Damn, we have had some sorry coaches here as of late.. Honestly, I think you could flip a coin on Saban and Wanny coaching-wise.. I put Saban below Wanny because he ran like a coward out of here.. Though Wanny retired in a similar manner, but the writing was on the wall for Wanny and everyone wanted him out anyway.
Here's to hoping Sparano finally ends the crummy HC streak. I must say that I have gotten a good vibe from Sparano since he has been here.. He has never seemed in over his head (like Cam did) and he also doesnt come off as a puppet for Parcells (as I was scared he might seem)..

It's like ranking the times you got kicked in the balls. As for me, I don't have a favorite instance of being kicked in the balls. I don't particularly like getting kicked in the balls. I don't rank ball kicking unless I'm doing it myself

The players played hard for Bates. But it's hard to judge an interim spot. I guess Jimmy Johnson was probably the best one. Saban had the potential to be the best one, but would rather bully college kids than take on the challenge of the pros.

Can't judge bates at all. Circumstances too different. JJ isn't just the de facto best because everyone else sucked, but he was pretty good if you look back.
JJ, then way way way below is everyone else. It's hard for me to judge Wannstedt, because he messed up so horribly bad, we're still feeling it, and I believe he rode in on JJ's coattails. Any success he had was due to the talent acquired during JJ's reign IMO.gunn34 likes this. -

as gameday coaches:
Dave Wannstedt
Jimmy Johnson
Jim Bates
Nick Saban
Cam Cameron
As talent evaluators:
Jimmy Johnson
Cam Cameron
Nick Saban
Dave Wannstedt -
I can live with that:up: -
As for the whole differences in talent evaluators/gameday coaches:
Gameday coaches:
Jimmy Johnson
Jim Bates
Nick Saban
Dave Wannstedt
Cam Cameron
Talent evaluators:
Jimmy Johnson
Nick Saban
Dave Wannstedt
Cam Cameron -
I think Wannstedt gets too much credit for what he did with the talent JJ had put together. He did the same thing with the talent he inherited in Chicago and he turned that team into a pile of crap just like what he did in Miami. I would even put Cam over Wanny as a talent evaluator. But thats JMO.

as far as ranking, i'd probably agree with skape's list, but i'd put Wanny ahead of Bates. Bates was the popular "players" coach, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was a good coach.
Wanny was not a personnel guy, but he was a decent coach. it wasn't him alone that tanked this team, so i don't point the finger solely at him.
whatever... i'm just happy vendigo said that line. :knucks: -
Dave Wrongstedt had the right philosophy. Run the ball and play good defense, but he would never trust his OC, and ran the ball way way way too much, and especially in critical situations. I love to run the ball as long as there is some balance but he killed me.
I would surely not put him last but first..... I'll pass -
