My understanding of the Bryant McKinnie situation: He has offers from #Dolphins and #Chargers. Still weighing them, negotiating.

Hear Dallas is now possibly in the mix as well....
-
I wonder if Tannehill planted the seed at the tennis match he and McKinnie had.
-
Wow, I mentioned him coming here months ago, most folks blew me off, I talked about it because I saw a live interview of him that gave me a great vibe..I know he's in shape, and motivated..

Mando's take on the tackle situation;
"Right off the bat if one of these players is willing to play for one year and relatively cheaply, he has an advantage. I don't know that any will do that, but that's out there. I would assume that the most expensive of the bunch would be Bryant McKinnie because he's the only actual left tackle of the group. Left tackles are more valuable.
The problem is McKinnie is clearly the worst character and culture fit. He's not Chad Johnson, as I mentioned in a previous blog post because he hasn't really been in constant legal problems. But he has been known to be a headache to coaches -- even last year in Baltimore. He is also an unrepentant partier. He has even recently hosted a party at a local club in Pembroke Pines as recently as two weeks ago.
Now, there's nothing wrong with partying. But even if McKinnie isn't the king of all partiers, he's royalty. And as the Dolphins are within 12 miles of Pembroke Pines and South Beach is down the coast a bit, this can lead to some distractions and negative example setting.
Just saying.
Winston, Clabo and Justice are not saints. But they're not in McKinnie's league at all."
Injuries?
McKinnie is clean in this regard. He didn't start a game last season during the regular season but that wasn't due to injury. He was overweight (another red flag) and out of shape (red flag) and it took him much of the season to get back in shape. He started every playoff game at left tackle."

whats our record the last few years if player x is deciding between the dolphins and team x ?
lol, i wont get my hopes to high -
Let's hope we don't see something like this:
"Bryant McKinnie signs record deal for Left Tackle, at bajillion dollars a year, 1/2 of the signing bonus paid for in rubies recovered from sunken ships in the Caribbean." -
McKinnie signing with the Dolphins would be popcorn worthy for a variety of reasons.
-
Not sure if I'm thrilled with this possibility, he's old and just came off a long season that probably entailed quite a bit of celebrating in the off-season, I have nothing to back this up but it seems common for players to leave a Super Bowl champion for another team only to be a totally bust for his new team.

My question is "Why are they being so flippant in acquiring an OT, left or right??" Is is not the biggest area of need on the team ??
They've had several candidates in and out of here (Clabo, McKinnie, Winston, Justice)...They've entertained trades (Albert and potentially even Monroe). There is an obvious need as we have Martin, Garner,Yeatman and possibly JJ on the roster. Martin struggled last season, but with some reports, he's done some good work in the offseason to prepare... Let's say he's the leading candidate on the roster. JJ is question and likely more of that talk has been from the peanut gallery rather than from Philbin or Ireland. Yeatman has been talked up, but is he the answer? And Garner seems more better fit as a fill-in stop-gap guy as he can fill in at just about any of the OL positions...I don't know that I'd want to see him as a starting guy...
What is the hold up or do they really think that the situation isn't quite as dire as many of us do ??
As to McKinnie, the way things have gone this offseason, it seems as tho that ship has sailed. If he's moved on, that means that the offer was less than he wanted (either in years or dollars) and he'll be signing with someone else...just my opinion, but the conviction (or $$) just isn't there. Besides, even if you think McKinnie is the best option, signing him leaves Martin at RT....Is that where they really want him ?? I don't think so...gunn34 likes this. -
Would he play RT?

McKinnie ?? Possibly, but it would be a bit of a waste... He's an established veteran, high quality LT...Why would you put him there ??
-
I'm really not sure how I feel about this. Thomas at LG, Incognito at RG, Pouncey at C, McKinnie at LT, and Martin at RT?

These rumors have been making the rounds for some time now .Everyone knows we are looking for OT help. However here is another scenario which could come into play.
-
Holding out hope for a Eugene Monroe or Rodger Saffold trade.

1. Minnesota Vikings party boat scandal participant.
2. Also owes $375,000 to a Miami Strip Joint, currently being sued.
3. Has half his wages from the NFL garnished for another debt due to a 4.5 million dollar loan he did not pay back.
4. reports to Ravens camp at about 400 pounds , sits all year and then goes and has 3 or 4 good games at the end of the season.

I like him only as a back up, Martin fails? Then plug him in at LT. I sign him and Winston, now our line has depth.
-
Eugene Monroe would be a fantastic addition to this team. He's average at LT. I'd take him on this team tomorrow, but I'd be stunned if Jax let him go this season.
