True, but its hard to believe anything a player says about retiring. He cant possibly imagine the feeling of gearing up for another season and then abruptly being dropped. Nor could he anticipate the temptations to return that his agent will be thrusting upon him.

I think that means he's ready to restructure for the teams sake.

 

Given his level of play last season, theres no way he retires. If the ravens cut him he'd get some big time money for a one or two year contract....

All of that is possible, but I think they draft a WR high, very likely #12, even if we sign a Wallace or Jennings or Bouldin...

Anquan Boldin went for 65-921-4 with a QB that a lot of people are beginning to consider a top 5 guy in the league.

Hartline did that with a raw rookie QB that was a wide receiver 3 years ago.

Boldin's just about done. His injuries are stacking up, he's getting slower every year, and he just wouldn't be an improvement on our status quo. I honestly wouldn't want him for anything. The whole FSU thing doesn't help... maybe I'm biased.

 

Although i would like them to take a WR at #12 as well, i think DE or CB are more likley depending on who is there, or if Miami don't sign Jake Long possibly go in that direction.

 

You're right that they have different strengths, because Hartline is still fast. Boldin is done. He made his money with YAC and in the endzone in AZ. His stats have been steadily declining, even in a more featured role (i.e. no Fitzgerald), with better QB play. The Hartline comparison is simply saying that this once-elite receiver can no longer statistically out-produce what most of us perceive to be our #2-3 receiver (who is on the rise, rather than the decline).

If you want to put stats aside and look at the skills, answer me this: At this point in their careers, what can Boldin do that Bess cannot? Keep in mind Bess's age, durability, and salary.

I'm not arguing that Hartline vs Boldin should be signed. I don't know where you got that from. I said I wouldn't sign him for ANYTHING. That means I'd rather have Rishard Mathews have that roster spot than some has-been.

When Anquan was a free agent, he wanted to be a Miami dolphin, real bad, his wife wanted him to be a miami dolphin, real bad, they are south Florida rooted people, Parcells brought him and his agent in for meetings and decided to go in a different direction..this was when he was a freakin stud..

Off the top of my head I'd say going over the middle without getting killed, and going over the top of a defensive back. Not saying I'm in support of bringing in Boldin (doubt he will be cut by Baltimore anyway), and/or letting Bess go. Just sayin' Boldin is a bigger, more physical receiver who presents a great red zone target. Bess is a smaller/shiftier receiver who is great at moving the chains.

I actually would be interested if he does become available. But again, I don't see it happening. This is just posturing IMO.

 

I vaguely remember that. But, I don't remember all the circumstances. I'm sure you're right. You know, Parcells was a really great coach back in the day. And, he made some really good personnel decisions in his time as well. But, the game passed him by, and it showed when he came to Miami. I just think he went back to the well one too many times. I don't hate on Parcells, but a lot of his personnel decisions (players, coaches, and FO) while with the Dolphins were, well...bad. And, not signing Boldin would have to be very high on that list.

This is why we shoulda hit the brakes on rushing to extend Hartline, you got Boldin and Denario Alexander about to hit the market, both are better and will probably be cheaper.

 

Boldin would still come cheaper than Wallace and then we could draft our speed guy...perhaps austin?

He's not done ability wise. Not IMO. I'd love to get him for 2-3 years. He's been durable, so no concerns there.
He just came off of his best season of the 3 in Baltimore.
When Jimmy Johnson foolishly let Irving Fryar walk at age 34, he went to the Eagles and had the two best seasons of his career.

 

Last year he was clutch in the red zone in the playoffs...tanny could benefit largely from boldin

I would say Swope. Has experience with Tannehill and ran a 3.34 (Same as Austin) and we get a playmaker in the 1st

This is what I agree with. Boldin has shown he can still go up and get the ball at a higher point than the defender. This kind of receiver would definitely help Tanny. He will be much cheaper than Wallace. He could give us a couple of years while a couple of receivers we draft this year develop. I am high on the idea of drafting Austin and Bailey and/or Swope. I also am of the belief that the Fins should either draft one of the top few TE's or sign a good one like Bennett in FA. If somehow we could get Austin and Eifert, I would be ecstatic. I suspect that this draft is going to be heavy on the offensive side of the ball.

 

It would be a huge indictment on Parcells if Ireland reaches out in any way to Boldin..

Kind of like how Ireland reached out to JT after Parcells wanted him gone.

You have to get back into the first round to get both, and I'm not talking the end of the first...Im absolutely in favor of doing anything possible to acquire Eifert and Austin..I'd even give up my first rounder next year to do it, cause with those two players factoring in the offense I'm betting on my team not to be top 15 next year.

 

I find it odd though. He bailed Flacco out on a bunch of deep throws, that most WRs would not be able to catch, during the playoffs. Flacco gets paid the most in the NFL and the Ravens ask Boldin to take a paycut. Someone's priorities are mixed up.

 

I don't agree with that Seabass, Flacco just cemented what some knew he could do..

I've had many heated debates on that dudes potential and ceiling, he didnt suprise me at all, he's a great player..does his salary at this point reflect where I have him in the rankings of top qbs, no, but he made the elite group a little larger.

 

I thought the same thing. The guy is also good blocking receiver and is a good teammate.

The main difference the Seminole hater wasn't considering when asking what Boldin could do that Bess cannot, is Boldin is open even when he is covered. He'll win many more of the 50/50 passes just because he is bigger and stronger than the corners. Bess isn't open unless he has a little separation. Boldin is a major red zone weapon due to his physicality.
If we sign him, sign a 2nd tier WR like Gibson, and draft Tavon Austin, I'd consider it a fairly successful addressing of the WR position.

He is owed 6 mil in 2013 with 1.3 in dead money...i wonder if someone would "rent" him for a 7th. If the Ravens do trade would the team that gets Boldin pick up his 1.3 mil in dead money or does it stay with the Ravens?

 

He didn't look done a few months ago through the post season racking up 22 catches (a handful of them CONTESTED), 380 yards, and 4 TDs. It's arguable that Flacco owes a chunk of that $120 million to Boldin, Smith, and Jones.

A lot. He still makes big plays, plays downfield, catches heavily contested throws, runs over defenders for first downs, and scores touchdowns..... and his clutch play through the playoffs is a big reason Baltimore won a SB.
