As a kick returner only I agree. As for a RB/WR I disagree greatly, he won't succeed there.

 

I'd give him a look no doubt. At the least he should be a pretty good return guy. At best he could be a guy we could use in a number of ways. A few carries a game, put him in the slot, end arounds, etc. I'd rather give him a chance than keeping Slaton around I think.

 

Not opposed to signing him , but he may feel he is behind too many similar players here. Watch Thigpen if he is healthy and gets touches and returns , he isn't just a camp body.

 

i would only give him a shot if we parted ways with another rb we have. i dont want other positions to suffer at depth when it comes to cutting down to 53

Not a fan of him as a running back. Great speed and nice returner.

 

Have you given up on Thomas? After watching him last year I felt he had the potential to be a very good, if not serviceable running back in this league.

 

He looked like he had potential, didn't he. He looked best on wheel pass routes though.

He strikes me as a guy who struggles a lot when the blocking isn't perfect. unfortunately that's us.

Some backs can improvise better. Not sure DT is one of them. but I judge this based on a pretty lazy analysis of sucking on a beer as the game is on, and youtube footage of his highlights in college.

To me, the RBs who create best tend to run with a lower center of gravity. DT seems to cary his too high and in a straight forward line. Not a lot of side-to-side cut on a dime feel to him. That's fine when you have a lane, but when you don't...

He's a railroad runner. Can only go on the tracks.

I don't get all of the Daniel Thomas hate after just one season.

 

This is a make or break year for Daniel Thomas. With Reggie going into his contract year, he needs to prove to the coaches that he can be a good back in the NFL. That means going out there and making plays. He didn't stand out at all last year, and not to mention being injury riddled as well. He has a lot to prove, but I don't doubt that as the #2 back he will have ample opportunities. If he doesn't produce, get rid of him. No need to waste any more time with him.

 

He should try nfl, he isn't fast enough for a sprinting career.

That isn't true at all. It's very easy to "slice it" in that fashion, because he had times when he performed well. A rookie who performs well at times but on the whole as fairly mediocre is not all that damning.

 

Whatever you'd like to call it, I think the point still stands. You can't accurately suggest there was no good to Thomas' play last year.

 

Running backs you trade up for in round two are different than say a QB ... easiest transition from college to pro position . While it isn't his fault that Ireland traded up for him , it is up to him to start to produce more consistently , imo. Having expectations of on the field production right now isn't wrong , again imo.

 

If we're trying out the diminutive specialist, Thigpen, then I dont see why we couldn't bring in Demps for a go.
Perhaps he'd like signing with a team 4 hours from home.

 

.... plus, Demps likely still has some quality upside considering he split time between football and track.

 

It's not changing the point. Daniel Thomas at points played at a "X" level at times last year, where "X" is a mutually agreeable positive term only likely to be arrived at after several posts worth of goal post moving and semantic wranglings.

If Daniel Thomas literally pulled down his pants and **** on the field and had that stand in place of his production in the Texans, Browns, and Raiders, and a handful of scattered positive plays, the point would still stand.

 

CK didn't like this pick from the get go. He has been consistent. Those of us that are not as down on the pick are still being patient.

 

I read the Bucs are very high on him, that's my guess where he is headed.

 

My biggest problem with Daniel Thomas is he's a big back that doesn't play like a big back. I'd have no problem with him being slow, etc. if he was the type of guy to always fall forward, and break tackles. Unfortunately, DT would much rather use a juke or spin move than trucking forward. He gets tackled too easily for someone that's over 230 lbs. Hopefully last season had more to do with his injury problems and he can be at least a solid player.
