Wow. I mean. Wow.
It's too late to fix the OL or any other roster issues. We have who we have. So, can anything be done to kick this team into gear and get some real wins?
1 - Fire Coyle and replace him. His track record over the last few years is awful.
2 - Run. The. Ball. (And not at the back end of a game when you're miles behind and low on clock - I can only assume Philbin has given up on the game. Either that or he thought that Ryan would never think he'd run the ball the entire time on low clock so maybe he'd get away with it, not sure to what end).
3 - Start using more roll outs and runs for Tannehill. (The only one I recall seeing was the get out of jail scramble that ended in a 40+ yd bomb to Matthews - figures).
4 - I'd say fire Philbin but not sure who would replace him and it might be just too much change/instability on a team that's already all over the place.
Having said that, I do wonder if we're not seeing a result of leadership disconnect. Does Philbin have any say on what sort of a team he wants? I'm guessing we're seeing Tannenbaum's team and Philbin is disconnected from the FO except for Ross. That sort of upper level conflict/disunity can result in precisely the sort of break downs we're seeing now.

Well, it's at least decent timing because after next week, Miami hits their bye. The Dolphins might conceivable make changes then but wow, think about that. After all the excitement and people predicting double-digit wins, here we are giving up and hoping for the coaching staff to get blown up and we're still in September. That's about as bad a start as you could have. In our defense though, this doesn't look like a team that's going to win more than 3-4 games. It's shockingly bad. You can run on them. Virtually anyone can throw on them. They can't run the ball themselves and are prone to calling bad passing plays at bad times. There is literally nothing they do well right now.
Anyway, I'd say that if the team was going to make a move, they'd be hard pressed to find anyone who remotely resembles an interim HC. You can't really expect anything good to happen by firing the HC and DC.
Philbin and Coyle need to go--and probably Lazor, too--but is there anything to be gained by making a change this early? It could result in utter devastation.
Then again, the atmosphere is SO unbelievably bad that it might be necessary to start evacuating Saigon. The team may need to get rid of Philbin just to avoid a mutiny at some point. The team we saw today did not look remotely prepared to play. At some point, things might bubble over. This team is not exactly disciplined. I can't remember a time when things seemed so dark. At some point soon it may become urgent that the ownership extend a message to the players that they are prepared to fix these issues immediately--that message would be the firing of Philbin.
I think people hate Philbin in a way that goes beyond what I've ever seen. At least Tony Sparano was motivational. He sucked and got out-coached on a weekly basis...but I'm beginning to feel Joe should be in fear for his life. He has no redeeming qualities in the fans' eyes. -
Stop running sweeps to the short side of the field.
Stop giving WR's 8 yard cushions on defense on 3rd and longs.
Generate some sort of a pass rush.Mcduffie81 likes this. -
I'd say a DC might be doable. If the HC is going he'd rather bring in his own staff, which is why ditching Philbin is less realistic - unless you promote Lazor to double up as HC and OC. I suppose it would be one way to give him a trial by fire and see what he can do without being under Philbin.
I don't see anything is lost by ditching Coyle, and, even just the change might do the D good.lohink likes this. -
1. Replace the coaching staff
2. Acquire some competent players on the OL. Especially at LG/RG. Might as well throw in LT too, Albert just can't stay healthy. -

Hope Philbo loses his passport in the UK.

In a scenario where a possible new HC is available you'll have to find DC/OC talent who either want a shot to prove themselves, or who, for some reason, would be happy with just a one season contract. -
The most immediate improvement would be to fire Philbin, Coyle, and Lazor.
-
-
They could play with ten players on defense instead of letting McCain play
-
Manny, Moe & Jack
The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost
The 3 Musketeers. The candy bar, not the actual characters
Groucho, Harpo & Chicco, but no Zippo. -
If we are talking realistic changes, then I have a few. These aren't listed by priority just as they come to my head.
1. Bench Dallas Thomas for ANYONE. Try Billy Turner there. Try Brenner. Try Douglas. Try Linkenbach. Anything is better than Thomas.
2. Run more unbalanced line formations until Albert is healthy.
3. Give more reps to Stills and Parker. Give less reps to Jennings.
4. Run more no huddle/up tempo offense.
5. Fire Kevin Coyle and have Dufner become the DC.
6. Play Zach Bowman or Bobby McCain more opposite Brent Grimes. Move Brice McCain solely to slot/nickel DB.
7. Play Cam Wake and Vernon situationally for passing downs only.
The fact we have 1 sack in 3 games is embarrassing. That's pure effort. We have had 2 taken away due to penalty, but still.Galant likes this. -
'run the ball'
lol.
YOU run behind that line. Please. -
However, since that can't be done right now, and since they managed to get some progress when they ran it behind essentially the same line last year, I say they should find ways to run it. -
-
Fire Philbin now. Spark the team. That's the realistic way this team could improve.
-
I think the effect of the poor coaching on this team can easily be overlooked. -

Event horizon- the players' will and fighting spirit is being sucked into the Philbin black hole. This is kind of rare in all my decades of watching pro football, but to me it's palpable- the team has given up on Philbin and seems to be passively protesting playing for him. They no longer believe in his leadership and most likely the that of the offensive and defensive coordinators.
I've never been a fan of Philbin but this is different and this is weird- the team is collapsing around the head coach, laying down their swords, refusing to fight. I remember being at the home game agianst the Bills years ago and watching Ray Lucas in a career death grip, it was eery. Same thing now, very strange vibe and very curious/conspicuous lack of effort from the players. Philbin is a dead man walking, whether he fully realizes it or not. But I think that he does.Mcduffie81 likes this. -
Sure, obviously a run game would help. We can't. Blame whatever you want, coaches, line, RBs, we can't run. Sooo..... Tanny has to throw 50 times a game and that's just how it is. saying we should "run more" is pretty much wrong, because the multiple 1 yard or less runs aren't getting us anywhere and obviously aren't improving any time soon. -

I guess i'm gunna have to re-read where i said i agree with or like our coaches and that I don't want to replace them or something. Or where I said I think running is a bad idea, idk.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
We can't run the ball, no matter reason you'd like to put behind it. 'coaches are too scared' 'line sucks too much' there's 100 of them. WE can't. Argue all you want, it's fact and has been fact over our first 3 games.
Look at the stats and get back to me
The Dolphins can't run the football. -
Run the no huddle.. We cant let the other defense make changes or take breaks. Got to speed it up and try to wear them out with pace.
-
It's like they have this theory, an idea, about what will work - if only they can get all the pieces to do their part - and yet it doesn't work in reality. It seems like coaching on paper but unable to adjust to reality. -
Zero relevance to this team right now. Literally Zero. This football team cannot run the ball. I'm sure you and everyone else can coach better than nfl coaches, but this team won't be able to run any time this season. You might as well remove running the football from the equation for the rest of this year. -
Same offense on paper means absolutely nothing with the product on the field at the moment, so there is no relevance. -
Bottom line is there is only one thing that can happen that is a 'realistic' way this team can improve, and we all know what that is.
saying things like "run the ball more" and "roll tannehill out more" are givens. But obviously won't happen with this staff. Not much we can do about it. If they haven't 'gotten it' by now, they won't. and everyone can pretty much see this ride is over.
Obviously doesn't help that the o-line is a catastrophe and our RBs only know how to run 1 direction, whether there is a hole or not.
