You really wanted Fisher to make the final decisions on who we draft, and aquire thru free agency?? while being our head coach..
I just wanna know who wanted to sign off on that when he was being courted so I can understand your anger at the owner??..
I liked and wanted him to be our coach too, but not have the final say on Personnel..You should have a different kind of professional for that job, with a different skillset..You don't bank on one guy being great enough at 2 different jobs at the highest level of the profession.
The personnel decisions of MR.Fisher is not why I wanted him in the first place.. It was to be a head coach of our team, and just because you are who you are, does not mean your going to be as good a personnel man as you are a head coach..highly unlikely as a matter of fact..
Listen, I don't want to get personal with the dude, I wanted him here, but who the fu&6 does he think he is wanting final say on personnel when he had 6 winning seasons out of 17 years coaching....maybe he should work on the craft of coaching and not worry so much about a different job that requires a different skillset.
Let me ask you this...If Fisher didn't really want us in the first place, like reported, do we really wanna give that guy full power??
Really I just want to know if the folks that are pissed off were willing to give this guy final say?

I'm glad Ross held his ground and didn't give in to Fisher's demands to have final say with personnel. I think Fisher as a coach/motivator would be a good thing. Having him coach and have control of draft picks and personnel not so good. Like you said, I think it's a different skill set and want our coach to worry about coaching and someone else to worry about draft picks and personnel. I think this will be a good thing and it will allow us to get a hungry, fresh football mind to lead our team

Nope, I wasn't excited for him at all for him, admittedly I started to get used to him coaching here because I thought it was A lock but I'm glad we didn't hire him. But I don't care who drafts the players this year as long as we trade up for RGIII(not going to be pissed if we don't, I understand the Redskins and Browns have more to offer than us.) but as long as we TRY to trade up for RGIII I wont be disappointed.

Throughout this process there have been reports that Fisher is leaning toward the Rams and the Dolphins simultaneously.
Perhaps the biggest joke about the media today is reporting a person's "wants" or "wishes" or "desire" or "criteria" for determining their decision. Those are internal processes for which the media really has no ****ing clue!
IMO fans would be a lot better served if the media stopped playing amateur psychiatrists. They really aren't qualified.sup3r3lit3 likes this. -

''Former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher wanted power over football operations if he agreed to be the Miami Dolphins head coach but owner Stephen Ross would not give him the power, so Fisher decided to accept the St. Louis Rams head coaching job. Fisher wanted the power to veto any move that general manager Jeff Ireland made.''
''Fu%$ that, Fu%$ him, and Fu$# the diaz brutha's..''
There is no crying in football...Lets continue this search, and find the man who wants to bleed for us, and who wants to be the best coach he can be..not the best personnell man he can be. -

Not me.
I back Ross 100%.
IMO No coach should get free reign and if any franchise and it's fans should be behind that it should be ours.
This organization wasted a HOF QB and a championship defense not being able to build a complete team because of questionable drafting.
Seperation of GM and coaching positions is a necessity. -
It does not lower the importance of the position and the need to keep the two seperate.Fin D likes this. -

"Jeff was great - he had the experience that the other ones might not have," Ross said. "But it has always been my philosophy to hire young people who have a real desire to succeed, and that's what's out there. Hopefully there's a Hall of Fame coach we'll be talking to."

I just knew Fisher wouldn't coach here. I am curious on what would've happened if he was here. I don't like the fact he wants full control of everything. I am not truly impressed with him to be honest with ya'll. When I hear his name I think Super Bowl loss a yard short of a win.

I love how people are saying we lost Fisher.
We didn't lose ****. We didn't want to pay what he wanted which was more than he was worth.
Its like wanting to buy a brand new Camry. Not flashy, but a solid dependable car. The salesman wants to sell it to you for $300,000. You say no.
You didn't lose the Camry. You refused to pay more than it was worth.SCall13, GreysonWinfield and djphinfan like this. -

Apparently, Fisher did not want to assume the GM role but was ready to work with Jeff Ireland - under the condition that he could veto an Ireland decision. Ross did not want to give him that veto power, so off to St. Louis he went. Truth to be told, I can totally understand where Fisher was coming from. He once got Vince Young forced down his throat and he didn't want to be in the same position again. It's a perfectly understandable request from a coach who pretty much lost his job because of a quarterback he didn't want (for all the right reasons, I might add). Whether or not Ross should have given him that veto power is a different story, but let's not pretend that Jeff Fisher got megalomaniac.

If Fisher wants final say in who is on the roster and who is not then I suggest he digs into his pockets and take out a billion dollars and buy himself a football team.
-
You can spin this any way you want, but the reality is that as long as Ireland is the GM of the Dolphins and Ross is the owner, this team will continue to be bottom feeder in the NFL. The Dolphins will now end up with another Sparano as their HC and he will be fired after three years of losing records. -
The people that are pissed are not so much pissed that Fisher wanted power, its the fact that they feel Ireland should have been fired also with Sparano and if he was this never would have happened.
-
Fisher knew from the very beginning of the negotitations that Ireland was staying as GM and he would not have any saying on personnel matters... So he knew since at least since then or since Ross stated so last December since TS was let go... He knew that as long as he did not have personnel control he would not be here...
He played the Phins to get the better of the Rams...
Here is the article from todays Miami Herald on the Ross and Fisher negotiations:
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/01/13/2588167/fisher-chooses-rams-wont-join.html -
Since I have lived in the South Florida area since 1961, I was a University of Miami fan long before the Dolphins were even founded. Over the years I remained a Hurricane season ticket holder but I spent most of my money on purchasing four season tickets each year to Dolphin games, along with traveling to at least one Dolphin road game each year. This past season I did not purchase Dolphin season tickets or travel to a road game because of my frustration with the direction of the Dolphins organization.
All Ross had done with his latest move to keep Ireland and once again lose out on an established coach, is make me realize that I need to spend all my football money on the Hurricanes from now on. So my wife and I have already decided that next year we will be traveling to a Canes road game instead of a Dolphins game on the road. In fact at this point, I can not see me ever spending another cent on Dolphin tickets as long as Ross is still the owner of the team.
I will watch the Dolphins on TV, when the games aren't blacked out, but I will no longer support the team with my money. -
Coaching duties... beating your opponent thru scheme, preparing your entire team from a to z, from monday to gameday, should be your #1 priority..
GM duties... improving the current roster, turning over rocks, everywhere, studying hundreds and hundreds of hours of tape, while not comprimising the future should be your #1 priority..
Both jobs demand specific excellence, and time committment, there just isn't enough time in the day. -
Does anyone know the hours involved in making a personnel decision...
Lets say Fisher did get what he wanted, Veto power..So Ireland brings him 5 prospects for 1 position to choose from, who's coaching the fu%$ing team while his *** needs to be in the film room breaking each prospect down to determine which prospect is right for us.?Fin D likes this. -
I have been trying to say this over the last few days...
Fisher knew what the terms were from the get go... and he did not like them from the get go...
So why are most still thinking that he wanted to be the next Dolphins HC when his terms were never met nor never offered...
Again he played the Phins to get the most out of the Rams...djphinfan likes this. -
and why are so many fans desperate to give GM control to Head coaches anyways...
You can count on one hand, I believe in the number of HC in todays NFL that have GM control anyways...
1-After all many, if not most, of our posters believe this team has talent and are competitive game after game...
2-We wanted TS gone because of bad decisions as a HC, which cost us many games...
So if those two points are valid and factual, then we have the core personnel in place to win games, as many believe...
and all this points to the current GM, being able to do his job in scouting talent...djphinfan likes this. -
Please answer that question, if indeed Fisher was leveraging us, wasn't it the right move to not give him control???Disnardo likes this. -

I was never exited about Fisher...so glad he is not coming over. I think we get Philbin and Matt Flynn follows. RG3 is over-rated and Flynn has the tangibes to start right away...this may be the answer we have been looking for since the marino error. We draft an OT in the first round who can fill in right away and this wil give us the protection we need. Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Clay and Bush will benefit from this immensely.

As far as my football existence goes, I enjoy football a great deal. I go to all the Hurricane games and enjoy them, whether the Canes win or not. My two grandsons play peewee football and I love going to their games. I will certainly enjoy all the NFL games today and tomorrow, because I have been a football fan for as long as I can remember. I certainly don't live and die for the Dolphins the way I did when I was younger and didn't know any better.
I look at the Ross ownership of the Dolphins as a benefit in one way, because I no longer will be spending the thousands of dollars I did in the past on season tickets and traveling to away games. I will merely become one of the thousands of football fans in Miami who sit at home on Sunday and wait for Ross to purchase all the tickets which were not sold, so the blackout can be lifted. If the blackout is not lifted, no problem because I will just go play 18 holes of golf during the game and I'll find out the score when I get home.Itsdahumidity likes this.
