Of course he'll have the opportunity to be the featured back. If he can beat out Daniel Thomas, then he will start. If he can prove to be durable enough to be an every-down back who doesn't runs north-south instead of east-west, then he will be the featured-back.

I don't see the problem with all of this.

 

I'm a Miami Dolphins fan.........................this doesn't scare me. Hell, we tried Ted Ginn as a featured receiver. Pat White at QB. John Beck at QB. THAT was scary.

 

I understand the concerns but I'll just make a couple points. First, Bush may not create on the stat sheets, but it's easy to underestimate the overall impact that he has on the game. He's a matchup nightmare for most defenses, there's not a LB in our division who can cover him. He's an instant upgrade to our screen, draw, check down games. Good on 3rd downs, a possibility in the WC and on ST. And if you can get him the ball in space the guy is explosive. He wasn't my first or 2nd choice, but for Amaya and a late round pick, I'll take him.

 

It's possible we could go w/ a Julis Jones-Marion Barber style rotation between Bush and Thomas. KC does it w/ Jones and Charles, the Jets w/ LT and Greene, so it's not a huge stretch.

It's not outside of the realm of possibility that Reggie Bush improves from what he did with the Saints.

If they can get him to be more decisive and a better route runner, he's still got really good physical ability. That's not really in question. He's probably not big/powerful enough to carry a full workload, but he could likely be pretty productive.

 

I'm not worried about it. Everyone's worried about his statistics. Well some of those statistics point out the lack of long runs. Despite an apparent lack of long runs, Bush has had a higher YPC than Pierre Thomas in both 2009 and 2010. We should have a better line than the Saints, and obviously better blocking will help any RB, but I think with Bush it will help a bit more because he thrives with space. People need to relax about Bush, and take the trade for what it is. We acquired a high risk role player with a lot of potential by trading a backup safety who is easily replaceable, and a low draft pick. People are overreacting in both directions about this trade.

He'll start every game, and still only get 10-12 carries I bet.

 

It's irrelevant, he'll split carries with Thomas who will see the bulk of the load by the end of the year.

 

I'd like him better if he was still dating Kim but good luck making that happen Reggie. And welcome to Miami.

 

i see no chance of him being the 'featured' back ... i do believe we will have Bush designed playes -- call that featured if you will. Also believe the Ronnie Brown could have been a 'Reggie Bush' like player - if we ever gave that a chance. I agree with the others in that if the Bushmaster gets more than 10-12 touches a game, he won't last all season. He is not built to be a workhorse by any means.

Let me paint the picture for you.

If Reggie Bush is being told by our staff that they expect him to fill a featured back role then that means they are done looking for RB help to solidify our committee approach. They are resting all their hopes on a rookie and a guy who has not even been able to stay healthy in a limited role. Now Bush is going to carry more of a load, be effective and stay healthy? LMAO..... Yeah, good luck with that Phins!

Wow...hadn't seen those numbers before.

Makes me wonder how serious Reggie has taken his conditioning program in the past. Given his talent, numbers and games missed it is usually indicative of a player that relies a lot more on natural talent than hard work.

 

We don't know what formation we will come out in on 1st or 2nd down, that's the beauty of Reggie Bush..''were not gonna put square pegs in round holes.''

We could come out with Bush and Thomas on 1st and 2nd down..Remember, our rookie can run, catch, and pass..

I really love their combination of skillsets together, our staff has talked about it all offseason and only some listened..well,there it is..totally complimentary skillsets..

I don't think I'd be happy if he said "Yeah I'm happy with where I am at. Just get a few touches in the running game and receiving game and we're good."

C'mon guys, what do you expect him to say? You're complaining that he said he wants to be a feature back... what running back doesn't want to be a feature back?

 

I don't think you'd want Bush as a feature back in a traditional set, 1 RB, 1 FB, 1 TE, 2 WRs. But if you spread the field, with 3 or 4 wide, then Bush could be very effective running the ball, even between the tackles, IMO.

At the very least you guys will get one of if not the best 3rd down RB in the NFL. Saw some speculation that he may be lazy.. 100% the opposite.. I don't think anybody will outwork this guy. everything I heard during the 5 years about his work ethic was positive.

some things to note

- He hasn't had a knee injury since 2008
- The past two injuries have been complete flukes. both came on fumbles (1 his 1 Colston's) that he tried to recover and both times had his leg destroyed
- He is a beast in the red zone
- Some of his best performances came in the biggest games

For me, I cannot imagine why you'd want to shackle Bush to being a traditional running back, he should maybe have 10 carries a game MAX, keep him fresh for the X factor role on Returns and as a Slot Wr.

 

You could still start him. Have a 3 WR, 1 TE set be our base offense. Teams would have to come out in a nickel. That takes one LB out of the box. He'd have room inside that way, feed him some shovel passes too, flares, etc. This also gets Bess on the field more often and he needs to be out there as much as possible.

 

That's been pretty much what Daboll ran in Cleveland as a base offense, though. A lot of 2 TE sets, too.

 

He may have because of personnel. Many observers seem to say that WR was a weakness for the Browns last season. A good OC can adapt to the strength of his personnel. Let's hope Daboll can be one.
