I appreciate the sentiment, I just don't agree, at least not where it matters. Are you going to be satisfied with we are 6 -10 again, because our losses were "closer"?

I am not. I am going to hold Gase responsible in the same way I would Sparano or Philbin--thats by wins and losses.

 

Look, it's alright to admit you lost. Just acknowledge the heart-breaker it was and move on.

Some games are moral victories. To me, Sunday was not one. Miami found ways to lose. Best to bury that and move on lest we grow weary from over analysis.

 

Finding a way to lose.. I agree is so typical of this franchise and not a moral victory of any sorts.

But the defense to me was a moral victory. If they play that well (measured by points) against the Patriots, I think that's something to hang your hat on. 20 points or less given up against the Patriots and I'll be a firm early believer in Vance Joseph.

Well.. how you lose does tell you something about how likely it is you'll lose in the future.

So yeah we lost, but it's nice if there's at least something clearly positive to take away from the game. For me that's the defense.

Unfortunately the game could've also been explained by Seattle's playing down to its level of competition. We won't know whether that's the case until about mid-October.

This, this this. It's not like the rest of the game will be exactly the same if catches it. Maybe he catches it, Seattle adjusts, Miami readjusts, etc. ec. the rest of the game. It's so early in the game. He did drop it. Whether we would have won the game who knows.

Stills could have stumbled and fell still. It's guaranteed if he doesn't Hartline.

It was a beautiful throw by Tanny though.

But Tanny also missed a bunch of stuff later. Look, it's a loss. Many reasons for it.

The drop was very early in the game and it's a baseless assumption all things play out exactly the same if he catches it. Stills continues to be such a bust-out though.

 

I've been watching this team for close to 45 years (December). I've seen more of these types of games in the last 30 years than anyone should have to. I've YET to see one that you could look back on and say, "hey, because of that loss, they figured out how to win". No, you just see more of these performances, over and over. That's all. I've been on "show me" since Johnson left.

 

While I agree that for 56 minutes the defense played great, the defense is what ultimately lost the game for us so how that can be called a moral victory I don't understand.
Somehow our holding Seattle to 12 points is just awesome for the Defense but at the same time Gase and everyone on the offense is just worthless even though they were playing the #4 offense from a year ago.

I feel a hell of a lot better about this loss than I did about our win against the Redskins last year. This year these guys, even though they ultimately looked like they can play. Last year they looked like hot garbage on the field and but for the grace of Landry's punt return TD would have lost. Coming out of the game in Washington last year we KNEW this team wasn't right. Coming out of this game there is reason to believe that these guys can actually play.

 

Completely agree with the rest of your post, but to this question of why I'm not hard on the defense for the last 4 minutes it's because the 10 minute differential in ToP was almost completely due to our inept offense. I can't fault the defense for that last drive.. I mean even with that last drive they gave up only 12.

I will acknowledge that the defense played a lot better yesterday than I thought they would for most of the game.

Tannehill finally led the offense on a drive late in the fourth quarter against a top defense and gave the Dolphins the opportunity to win with less than 4 minutes to play in the game. That was a huge positive for Tannehill and the offense.

While there were certainly a lot of positives in the game for the Dolphins. Unfortunately the big negative is that the Dolphins once again outplayed a quality team and still found a way to lose the game. This has happened far too often over the last 15 years and until they learn to win these types of games, it remains difficult to get excited about the positives in yesterday's game.

The reality is that they play the game to win and right now the Dolphins are 0-1 and head to New England to face a Patriots team that found a way to beat a team they were suppose to lose to yesterday. They did it with a backup QB and their best receiver out for the game.

Good teams find a way to win close games and bad teams find a way to lose those games. The Dolphins are still a bad team but hopefully they are headed to the good side under the direction of Gase. It is going to be interesting to see how they respond next week in New England.

 

In reference to the Stills drop, I think it does effect the game. Obviously we don't know what "would" have happened, but it has an effect on the game in my opinion. I remember we were playing the Patriots a couple years ago and Brandon Gibson dropped a pass that hit him square in the chest...I think it was a third down play too and had he caught it the drive would have continued obviously. It was a major momentum killer for us and the Patriots ended up beating us...(Same game where Vernon strip sacked Brady and then accidentally knocked the ball down the field and the refs called a penalty on him for it.

 

There's really no telling what would've happened. For all we know the long touchdown would've ignited the Seahawks, making them blow the Dolphins out the rest of the day. You could argue the dropped TD pass lulled them into continued complacency and helped them continue to play down to their level of competition, if that's what they were doing.

 

Thats right. We lost. We have a game in six days. Lets get ready or we are 0-2 and in a huge hole for the playoffs.

Playoffs lol...how bout we manage to win a game for once. Thats why i dont get the moral victory crap. Until moral vixtories become a tie breaker i could care less. How bout we manage to convert more than 3 first downs before we even utter playoffs. We will be lucky to win 6 games with the offense we showed Sun. Until we get a QB or our current QB stops being content with 3 yard completions on 3rd and 8 we are going nowhere fast.

Then no, I shouldn't be commenting. Because I am not Stephen Ross. I just saw some fans saying they were encouraged because it was Gase's first game as HC and RT's first game in the offense. I was disagreeing with that. Sorry.

 

I am with you. I don't care about "moral victories". The goal for me is the playoffs. If we lose on Sunday, chances are we are not going to reach that goal. Again. That would not be good. Because I think if we win 6 games, then we may very well be looking at having to draft a QB early in the draft. I really want to avoid that.

 

I don't doubt it, but, as a fan, I am going to look at the season as it unfolds. Right now, they are in the same position as 16 other teams. If they win Sunday, they'll be as good as they can be, provided they lost in week one. If they lose in week 2, I'll deal with that reality.

 

Something that we need to remember is despite the age of guys like Wake, Albert and Williams, this is a young team. They have been poorly coached and had the fire run out of them under Philbin.
They will learn how to win and get the ever elusive "culture" back to winning. A little success in these type of games will go along way for these guys.

 

This particular game reminded me of the Jax game last year, and the GB game a year before that. We were close. We almost won. We almost came back. But in the end, it was not to be. We are either going to start winning these games or we are not.

 

Totally agree. I think that has all to do with the HC. That isn't happening under Shula. It's another measure of how good or not Gase is IMO.
