With Ferguson gone this is an option

I forget, is Rodgers a true NT or do they play a 4-3 in Cleveland. And if they are playing a 3-4 in CLeveland why would they be letting Rodgers go? NT's are at a premium this year. I don't buy the sources reason.
-
Just about everyone besides Cribbs is available with the mess that team is in and Holmgren has no allegiance to anyone. Our feelers might be out.
-
And he can play in a 4-3, infact he was succesfull in Detroit playing there.Tin Indian likes this. -
The thing is, although you couldnt tell by looking at him Bill Parcells has an anti-fat thing going on. He's strict on player weights, and the guys they draft for the position typically end up in the 315-320 pound range and are strictly watched weight wise, rather than just let go as long as they can play.
Shaun Rogers and Jamal Williams both have probably violated their weight clauses their entire career. -
Freelancing at the NT position doesn't fly anywhere.
Cleveland plays a 3-4 just like us. There's a reason they're looking to deal him.Fin-Omenal likes this. -
Well at least we have some options in FA at the NT position now and at a perfect time. With the sad news on Ferguson I would make a run at Big Baby or Jamal Williams.
Rodgers has better play but Williams would be a better stop gap, mentor and locker room influence than the Baby. -
Jamal Williams is gonna be our next NT me thinks. -
Part of the issue, I think, is playing Shaun Rogers constantly is he's playing both passing situations and run situations, and is expected to be the man in both. -
-
From what I can tell he was on pace for 758 in '09, which works out to nine fewer snaps per game. But that's still near the top of the DT list, and 18 more (overall) than Randy Starks (our resident 3-down guy) got in '09.
Would the Dolphins be fine with a $6.9 million price tag this year? He's 30 and entering the third year of a $42 million contract. And coming off a broken leg.
From what I'm reading, Ahtyba Rubin stepped up last year and there's spec that Rogers could be moved to DE a la Haloti Ngata. -

I just hate how we continue to refer to the front office as a regime. It has no political relevance whatsoever.

Shaun Rogers played 903 snaps in 2008. Jason Ferguson, that same year played 449. I'm no mathologist, but I'm pretty sure that is less than half the snaps, as a better conditioned player.Nappy Roots likes this. -
Im on line here with Disgust. hes a dominate NT.
Name one 350 guy that doesnt take plays off, its called fatigue. specially as Disgust points out hes on the field ridiculous amounts of time. -
It'll take probably s third this year and a 4th next year. You do that.
Then you sign Antonio Bryant, and draft a Safety and an LB. Offseason over.

He's weight would be a problem for the FO, and this FO hates overweight DT. Look at the problems they had with Solai.

Rodgers is a beast! This guy is in the back field all game long disrupting both run and pass plays. Early on he fell out of favor because Mangina called him fat! Serious who is Mangina to call someone fat? This guy would take up multiple blockers and allow Dansby to roam free. Not to mention he blocks FG and extra points. He blocked 2 in the first Cincy game last year that got the Browns to OT. The possibilities with him and Nolan are endless. The Cleveland papers also reported a while back that Thigpen is a QB Holmgrem is interested in.

If we could do a straight up, I think Ireland would be very interested. -
-
How about we just take Cam Thomas with our 2nd rounder?
-

It depends whether or not we're going with a one-gap or two-gap at the nose this year. If you allow the man to penetrate and play the way he's always liked to he's a dominant presence. He really can flat out take over. Best pass rushing NT in the league by far. Weight or no weight part of that problem has to do with injuries, the other part lack of pass rush from fat asses.
Rogers-Starks-Merling/Langford-Wake is a ****ING fearsome 4 man line that can do very well against the run. -
Just to give you an idea the never perfect but overall useful PFF ranks him as:
2009- 3rd in pass rush to Tony Brown (a pure pass rush specialist) and All-Pro Kevin Williams
2008- 2nd overall to the great Kevin Williams
2007- 1st overall to a wide margin over Albert Haynesworth
It's worth taking a chance on a third rounder for that kind of ability at the NT spot. Pressure from the inside is so hard to stop for an offensive line and most 3-4s can't produce it. It's the one safety net that allows a team to play 2 TE counter the primary rushers, single block the DEs and have the C slowly hold ground against the pass-rush inept pocket collapsing NT.
If you have Starks-Rogers-Merling coming from the inside against that opposing offensive line they are going to cry mercy. They are going to be in pain. Most 3-4 teams when played against by the spread are reduced to a four man line. That four man line still has to answer to the run but will have difficulty creating pass rush with a large LE, an incapable NT, one gap three technique rusher, and the ROLB rushing. The right side of the offensive line will take a break.
Shaun Rogers won't allow that, period end of story. -
-
He was the three technique in Detroit?
-
you guys think browns would take thigpen, and our 3rd for him?
-
I think they would but I would also think they would take a 3rd and one of our 6s for him. Either way it's better than drafting another Pat Turner.
