didn't see this one coming :shifty:

We've all seen this coming, but it is going to be a disgrace seeing him in that uniform. My bud here at work is a die hard Packer fan. He's not taking this too well.

This guy has gone from Hero to absolute Zero in less than 2 years.
Honestly feel for Packer fans. That is about as bad as it gets IHOsteveincolorado and dolphindebby like this. -
Yep! I was at Pathmark the other day and a kid identified himself as a huge Green Bay fan. When I told him Favre might sign with the Vikes, he said he felt like puking. Huge slap in the face to Packer fans. I LOVE it! :tongue2:

I actually hope he does really well there. This way we can laugh at the Jets even more.

What a complete idiot! He has tarnished his legacy. It was okay I guess to play outside of your division but to play for your rival????? He wants revenge for the Packers cutting ties with him last year.

Here's the weird thing. I'm a Favre-hater from way back. I've always resented the undue attention he received. But now, the hate is so universal, there's a small part of me that almost hopes he does well to flip the script yet one more time. That, and it would royally piss off two of my best friends, who are a Bears fan and a Packers fan, respectively.

It culminating with him signing with the Vikings makes him one of the biggest jerks in sports, IMO.
You've got whiners like Cutler and TO and Chad Johnson, sure; but this is really contemptible. He's just spit in the faces of all those Packers fans.njfinfan likes this. -

If I wasnt a Phins fan, Id be a Packer fan. I spent 5 years living in Green Bay as a kid, went to several game as a kid etc etc. I was right before the Brett era, but I always rooted for them as my "NFC" team.
I really liked watching Favre play, he was such a talented guy and really did have a passion for the game.
But with all this, I just dont feel for him anymore. The soap opera was way to much, the whole fiasco last year of wanting to go to a division rival etc. Why? Why tarnish your legacy like that? The Vikings really? Ugh. Ive been done with him for awhile, and this just makes it sink even lower. -

He's been an on again off again can't commit weepy eyed I'm gong to retire douche for several years. Marino did it the right way, he hung up the reigns and left the game. Favre just can't get out of the spotlight even at this stage where he has become a caricature of himself and most of the attention he gets is negative but even then I think he's eating it up.

I've got no beef with Favre. Used to be I couldn't stand the guy, but at this point I'm rooting for him. Despite what people think this guy still has a good chance of putting up a great season. Two seasons ago he was fantastic until the playoffs. Last year he was injured....this is not a Testaverde situation where he's a walking shell of his former self. He's one season removed from being a top 5 QB. So what if he's wavy on his decision to retire...he SHOULD be...he's got an awesome job that pays incredible amounts of money, and once he leaves..that's it. There's no coming back at that point.
I don't like the cat but I honestly am rooting for him after how GB treated him. Of course I understand them going with Rodgers, but I can't approve of them being so unwilling to move him to a team that he wanted to play for. -
-
NO, you DONT let icons go play for division rivals!
Favre has been acting like a primadona and it finally caught up with him at the end in Green Bay. His saving grace was the goodwill he bought with the fans at large, but thats going out the window when he signs with the Vikes.GISH likes this. -
who will he play for next year? what will it take to make him retire for good? does he need to have his arm amputated?
-
Favre gave a huge part of his life to that team and community. He brought them a championship and a TON of money. So I feel (and I realize others won't feel the same and that's ok) that when a guy who has done so much for your team and is obviously on his last leg says 'if you can't find a place for me I'd like to go here" that you man up and let him have his wish.
What harm would come from him playing in Min other than having GB's feelings hurt? He'll retire in a year or two...you're not giving them a franchise QB for the next 12 years, the guy's old and at best has bit left in the tank. No need to lowball the guy and ship him to a team tha the doesn't want to play for.Anonymous likes this. -

The Vikings may be thinking they lack a quality QB to lead them to the SB.
Favre does not know when to quit and he may want to erase the memories of his mediocre last year playing for the Jets .
IMO they are both delusional.
But the Vikings will sell a lot of season tickets and will probably get a lot of prime time
TV appearances.
There is a lot of star billing on that team with Favre,Peterson,Harvin.
I will be watching a lot of their games as many others will too.Tone_E likes this. -
Ever since he was traded away to the Jets we've read conflicting accounts as to where and what went wrong. So really there's no way to know for sure what the truth is. It does seem pretty strange that from the start Minnesota was his preferred destination. Why do you suppose that would be his preferred destination? Is it really that big of a leap to think he wants to go to Minnesota just to try and stick it to the Packers? It isn't to me.
He wants to play for a team who's chief rival is the very team he was the leader of for over a decade. Packers fans cheered for him and gave him legendary status for well over a decade. He's now willing to put his foot up every one of there a$$e$ just so he can get back at the organization because he feels they didn't treat him well enough. If I were a Packers fan I couldn't imagine not having a problem with it.
Maybe it wouldn't bother you, but I can tell you that most Dolphin fans would have felt betrayed if Zach or JT had signed with the Jets.
To me it has less to do with the organization and more to do with the fans.Disnardo likes this. -
He secretly made overtures to them prior to the draft about coming back. When they said they were interested, he backed off. They reached out to him again...that they'd have to move on after this....and he said, "I'm staying retired".
Fast forward a to training camp, after the they draft two quarterbacks and Rodgers has been working as the leader of the team, and Favre decides he wants to undermine it all. Compete for his job? They just spent the entire offseason building him up Rodgers, on the field and in the locker room. He's their future. They let this go on, they **** on him. If he loses out to the Hall of Famer, they've effectively neutered him.
So Favre's solution is for them to let him go to their hated division rival? For nothing?
He put that organization in an impossible situation.
What if this were Dan Marino deciding he wanted to play for the Jets, who (in this example) are loaded everywhere but quarterback. No way in hell you deal unless they're giving up multiple #1 picks. Even then, it's still a tough pill to swallow.
Favre has tarnished his legacy. Brett Favre should not be booed at Lambeau Field. Ever. But they will boo the hell out of him. And it'll be well deserved. He's asking for it.Frumundah Finnatic, BrazForPhins, steveincolorado and 5 others like this. -
So...2 questions:
1. Is Favre an upgrade over what Minny has? If yes, Minny did what they thought was right.
2. Where will Favre play next year? LOL
EDIT: Maybe Favre has bills to pay and a standard of living to keep up...and needs the job. -
I used to like Brett too, but I was irritated that he held the Packers hostage during the off season. Then he went to the stinking Jets. That sealed the deal for me. I despise him now, and going to a division rival makes it even worse.
I hope in the first game vs the Packers, he sets a record for the most interceptions thrown in the game. Then in the second game vs the Packers, he breaks his own record. -
An old warrior is what he is or will be next season...
What is he fighting for?
Ego, IMHO...
He keeps trying to prove to himself that he can play at this age and wants this to be his legacy. I don't think he wants to stick it to his fans, maybe to the Packer's management, but I think he likes to still see his name in the headlines... -
Teams can cut or trade a player at anytime for any reason and do so. I have no problem with what Farve has done. Even the retiring bit. How many players have had something like that happen to them? As long as he isn’t breaking any league rules, more power to him. He has, or at least had, the ability to take a position of power that players don’t usually get. Good for him. I don’t get where players are held to a different standard of loyalty than a team.
As for him wanting to play for the Vikings, is there a team that is a better fit out there? Same offence, only a great D and the best RB in the game. Teams get praised for getting the best players, why shouldn’t Farve go get the best team?Anonymous likes this. -
HAs this been confirmed? I went to the Vikes website and cant find a mention of it.
-
Brett Favre hasn't even taken a snap in camp with his team and he's already causing problems. I can't remember who it was on the Vikes roster but a player said he'll take Favre if he can leave his ego at home. Then the Vikes need to lock up Antoine Winfield to a new deal but refuse to until Favre signs his. Btw, how questionable does that Sage Rosenfels trade look? They shipped off a pick for him and now he could be the 2nd or 3rd string QB there. Terrible.

So, is it confirmed? Is Favre the Vikings QB?
