Interesting. Could Philbin show some of the same respect and bring him in as D-coordinator? We can all dream....

I think it is a decent chance that the losing coach in the Panthers-Falcons game could get fired, especially if it is the Falcons, since it is two losing seasons in a row and they are playing at home. Both Mike Smith and Ron Rivera are former DCs, and I'd guess either of them would be a more likely hire for Philbin, than Rex would be. Although I'd prefer Rex. Most likely though is Philbin does not fire Coyle and our dreams are for naught.

Where are his realistic places to go as a HC? I think Atlanta is one place, maybe Chicago.

Rex would steal so much thunder from our coaches, lol... Does anyone else dislike the more diminished pc Rex? False praise used to be his kryptonite.

There's really no way in hell Joe Philbin would hire Rex Ryan unless it were forced on him.

Maybe they should kiss after the game...

I just dont see any candidates out there that would be nothing more than a lateral hire... The candidates after Rex and Harbaugh are all basically the same. There are no super hot coordinators ready to take control of a team this season. Maybe they should give Chudzinski a shot? Can Newton thrived under him... Thats all I can think of.
-
That's hilariously ironic that you of all people say that. -

Rex will either get a HC job, or work in TV until he's offered one IMO. I'd love him here as the DC, though. I guess you can't discount him coming here just to spite the Jets and Patriots though.
-
He's the type of DC we need. Philbin apparently looks to outsource motivation to his DCs as well. As the Chef, I think he leaves it to his sous chefs to add flavor to the dishes. Rex would certainly provide that. Our coords are essentially Asst. Head Coaches.
-
I'm more worried about the Jets hiring a good GM. While Ryan was a good coach most of the time with the Jets, we could count on Idzik screwing up their roster, making them play guys like Geno Smith.

Remember Joe's talk with Chad Johnson about curse words??? Yea....that

Rex Ryan as DC? You wouldn't hear me complaining. Is it too soon to say i'm excited about 2015?Pandarilla likes this. -
Not with that attitude. Think of all the in-game hilarity on the sidelines.

I think the stumbling block is really would Joe Philbin fire Kevin Coyle or not? Unless Stephen Ross forces him to do so, like he did with Sherman and Turner last year, I just don't see Philbin voluntarily firing Coyle.
I also have a hard time seeing Rex Ryan coming here to be the DC if Atlanta is offering him a HC job. Atlanta's got Matt Ryan, who is by far and away the best QB Rex would have ever had the opportunity to work with, and they already have some nice 3-4 components for him to work with.
That said, I think if it comes down to it, and somehow Kevin Coyle actually IS fired and Rex Ryan DOESN'T get a HC offer somewhere, I think that Philbin knowing full well his bacon is actually in the pan this upcoming season, would consider Ryan as a DC candidate. I think in that situation it's more a question as to whether Rex would come back as a DC or take a year off and go the TV route until another HC offer comes about. Unfortunately, I don't think Miami ever gets the opportunity to find out. -
-
Yah I don't buy it either. We would have to invest a LOT trying to convert back to a 3-4. We really do not have the parts for it.

Cutler's career numbers are 183 TDs, 130 INTs, 61.7 comp%, and 75 fumbles with 53 lost. That's 183 turnovers to 183 scores. Weird numbers for someone with that much unfulfilled talent and the amount of surrounding talent he has always had.
If Rex could settle him down and make him a team player, they'd be solid together. Cutler will be 32 next season and has never had a passer rating over 89.x in a season and those have been these last 2 seasons. -
I'm not sure Rex to Chicago happens, and I don't think "his Dad coached there years ago" is enough of a reason to hire him. Atlanta seems tailor made for him especially if rumors of Blank liking him are true. TV will be a good fallback option to ATL.cuchulainn likes this. -
He's not telling the world, he's telling a bunch of beat writers after a 3 win season. It's a PC move from a diminished Rex.
But yeah, I've been getting my shots in on Philbin... -
