If this is indeed the case, it's by far the biggest indictment of Henning (this is absolutely not acceptable). It's also a big reason to question Sparano, since he has to give his blessing on these kinds of decisions.

This team has weaknesses without a doubt but they are magnifying them the way they are going about using the talent on this team rather than allowing the strengths of the team to go all out.muscle979, dolfan7171, Ophinerated and 11 others like this. -
Not surprising whatsoever.
If it’s true that the coaching staff is down on Henne for not executing, then that’s partially on the coaching staff for expecting him to execute without being able to adjust.dolfan7171, TheMageGandalf, FinFan_Est.1984 and 2 others like this. -

It's not in any sense surprising, shocking, or out of the ordinary for a young quarterback not to be given that responsibility.
But let's carry on where the game where every single thing no matter how inconsequential or nonsensical is a damning indictment of somethingrdhstlr23 likes this. -
This is news to you guys?
Sparano said weeks ago that Henne has kills, meaning it can be run or pass depending on what he is seeing from the Defense, not exactly audibles but not Robot stuff either.

Thats no real surprise. Further proof that the staff is really holding things back here, especially with the offense.
I don't want to get off topic with the thread, but WOW... Ricky's talk about Sprarano is really interesting. It starts around the 15 minute mark..
Im paraphrasing of course, but it went like this:
We're tough, smart and disciplined, and our coach values 3 things and they are what he calls the makeup of a player and that you can win with those three things. I would say, that I dont know if we as a team believe that is what you need to win a football game. I dont think we appreciate that about ourselves.
... Then later he goes on to say...
I dont think players today really buy in to smart, tough, and disciplined leading to winning a superbowl
Wow. I was saying things like this since sunday, just seems like the guys are out there going through the motions, and not really buying into the messages from the coaches. Looks like Ricky is pretty much telling us that same thing. Maybe I'm reading too much into his comments, but if that is indeed what Ricky is saying, thats very troubling.dolfan7171, Bpk and hugoguzman like this. -
I've been saying it for a while now. Henning is trying to prove something that's not there. Henne has thrown the ball 107 times in the last three games.... two of those games were losses obviously. We ran the ball 13 times yesterday 2 of those carries belonged to the QB.
You can't win like that. We were in a close game for most of the day. We have all seen it for a while. Ricky is living it.
Dan Henning is being stubborn and it is killing this offense.Rocky Raccoon, SICK, hugoguzman and 1 other person like this. -
I guess Henning's calls are always dead on accurate for what the defense is about to run. We should be doing better if he's got a crystal ball. :glare:Ohio Fanatic, dolfan7171, TheMageGandalf and 3 others like this. -

I mean really, how many times have you seen an audible where the set they're in changes? Or even better. How many times have you see him calling out signal changes at the line?
They obviously do not have total trust in Henne. Wether that's good or bad is what we don't completely know yet...hugoguzman likes this. -
It's another to find out that audible of any kind are not allowed.

I say bring back the Marlins dirt infield and let them draw the plays up in the ****ing dirt. Can you seriously tell me it could be any worse than the last 2 games?

I don't how the rest of you feel but why did we bring in Brandon Marshall if we are afraid to use him? I would rather let Henne call his own plays and open it up like Rivers does with the Chargers. Send out four or five receivers and a Tight End and hit the open man. What we have is not only boring to watch but opposing defenses don't have to worry about too much since everything is so predictable.

Marshall, Bess, Ginn, Hartline, and Cammy are completely different than Marshall, Bess, Hart, Wallace, and Moore. -
I posted this 11/5 in a different thread talking about this exact problem.
You know I see a lot of Peyton Manning votes on here.....No way can you argue that the guy puts the ball on the money a high percentage of the time. What I do want to point out about Peyton though is the freedom he has that not many other QB's have.
????: ThePHINS.com - Miami Dolphins Forums http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?p=1317318
Living here in Indy and being forced to watch the colts every week you see some big big differences between the Peyton and Henne.
The biggest weapon Peyton has isn't his accuracy and arm, its not his recievers or O-line. His weapon is walking up to the line of scrimmage EARLY, looking at what the defense is doing, and having the freedom to call his own play if he see's something he likes.
Now I understand that this if Henne's first year starting and by no means do I or should anybody expect him to be able to do this right out of the gate. But, if we are going to see any kind of improvement in Henne, I think this is it. If we can let this guy go up and call a running play when the saftey way back to double Marshall or call that bomb when they are stacking the box.
Now I know they have audibles, dont get me wrong, but its not quite the same thing. Your audible might be for a play to reciever X when reciever Y is the one being covered by the slow LB.
I think this ability and this freedom from your O.C. is exactly what it really takes in this day and age to be "elite" This is what I want to see Henne be able to do, and be let to do.Fin D likes this. -
I have been saying this. re-read my posts. Tony doesn't get creative and gets out coached. He is an offensive line coach at heart. Smart, tough, Disciplined....right. Isn't that their mentality?
Henning is creative for a few plays or two maybe, but Lacks creating an identity for the offense and has Henne playing scared. Henning is known for ......offensive inconsistency.... is known for this. Note: See Buffalo fan and the demise of Marv Levy.
Offensive co-ordinator; he gets quite a few props for a few great plays that are well designed, but cannot establish a rhythm. The "lack of or inability to" get the running backs involved in the game is a glaring problem, especially in the passing game. It is hard to get a feel for where this team is offensively, because there just isn't any rhythm. To me, it all starts with the ability to get the RB's involved in the game. First drive is the perfect example.
Previously:
I will say that the offense is missing an identity IMO. Are you a smash mouth offense? Thats what I think Miami has to do to be successful. Granted, the offensive line is going through a transition, but establish an identity and make people stop you. When you establish the run, it opens up the passing game and makes play action that much more dangerous. Henne likes being under center too, which makes this make more sense.
Who is the running back and who relieves him? I think Miami is purposely "sparing" Ronnie Brown. There is something to this. When I see Ronnie Brown run, he is running hard and with authority. He needs 80% of the carries to be more effective. 20-24 touches a game isn't unreasonable. If they are afraid of him getting hurt, then its time to look elsewhere for a RB. Ronnie Brown is a back that needs carries. Yes, he is a patient runner, which is mistaken for dancing around. He will get the heavier load IMO as the season progresses.
I don't know that its the OC thats the problem either! I think Tony gets pretty excited with FG's, so who is to say that he doesn't demand playing not to lose vs. going for the win in the Red Zone. It also affects how Nolan calls the defensive schemes, trust me. He could be more aggressive, but with a Offense that isn't scoring, he cant be.Mile High Fin, Two Tacos, Coral Reefer and 2 others like this. -

I would hope, and give Henning the benefit of the doubt that it's original every play, or at least every game. But it's an interesting thing that I'm sure isn't easy to analyze.
I think we'd all like to see Henne develop into someone who can audible at the line, and learn to master the opposing defenses. But honestly for anyone to think he's ready for that in his 3rd year is just expecting a lot. He's still got too many other things he needs to work on (reading defenses being one of them) before he's able to put the big boy pants on.adamprez2003 likes this. -

How can you be happy with field goals? How can your offense be more predictable than Cam Camerons? ITS A JOKE!
