I think RG3 is a consistent quarterback, but lacks the team that can get wins consistently. I mean a guy who has completed over 70% of his passes while maintaining a TD/INT ratio of over 6 is impressive no matter how you spin it. He is going up against some damn good competition too. I think his poorest game yet this season would be versus Oklahoma State and we know that they are a quality team.
There are flaws with every player (except with Andrew Luck lol) and don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone considers RG3 a sure thing. However the electricity he would bring to Miami - the excitement - the sleep he would force defense coordinators to lose. If Miami wins a couple more games and falls out of the Luck/Barkley race.... I don't see how RG3 isn't a legitimate possibility with our first round pick.
Could you imagine if the Eagles fired Andy Reid? Then we turn around and hire Reid while drafting RG3? Think about it. -

I will admit that I watched Griffin last night and I came away very impressed. He is the QB I would like to see in a Dolphins uniform next season if the Dolphins can't draft Luck. In fact if I was the GM of the Colts, I just might be willing to trade the first pick in the draft for a bundle of draft picks. I would draft Griffin and let him learn the NFL game behind Manning for a year or two. I think with what the Colts could get by trading the first pick in the draft and also drafting Griffin as their QB of the future. The Colts will be right back at the top of the AFC for years to come.
I was also impressed by the QB play of Matt Barkley last night. He seems to have very good awareness in the pocket and he certainly has an NFL arm. If Luck and Griffin are already off the board when the Dolphins select and Barkley and Jones are still available, I would hope the Dolphins would opt to draft Barkley. Jones has a strong arm and is very accurate but he seems to panic when the defense applies pressure.
Right now, any of these QB's would be a definite upgrade at the QB position for the Dolphins. I just hope at least one of them is still on the board when it is the Dolphins selection in the 2012 draft. -

Tom brady, manning, brees, don't have rockets but they can thread the needle when they have to.I have not seen this from luck in the 4 games i watched this year. -
Of course you may be right and all the experts may be wrong. So if the Dolphins don't get one of the top rated QB's in the first round. Tannehill and Weeden should still be available later in the draft. Personally I would rather the Dolphins take a flyer on Weedon in the fourth round if he is still available. I don't expect him to be much in the NFL, but I don't want the Dolphins wasting a second or third round pick on Tannehill.
I don't see Tannehill ever being more than a backup QB in the NFL. I also don't see Tannehill or Weeden as the long term answer for the Dolphins at the QB position. -

I am very excited for the offseason (not in a hurry though, I love watching football!) because it's going to be fun to follow.BigDogsHunt likes this. -
Of course there is always a chance that me and most of the experts who have rated him an 8 out of a possible 8 at the QB position, are all wrong about Luck. I appreciate that you have a different opinion regarding Luck as a future NFL QB. While I may disagree with your opinion. Since Luck will be in the NFL in the coming years, we will have plenty of chances to determine who is correct in regards to how effective Luck will be at the NFL level. -

We all have our FAVORITE ranking. A lot will be determined based on who declares and who doesnt. -
I like RG3 plenty...however, if that was the first time and only time you had watched him of course you would come away impressed. -

good to see some folks comin around on RG3..Didn't see the game, but I felt his skillset has been completely overlooked...Ive said here before, kid deserves respect..Would be excited to see him here..
Can anyone recap his performance? what stood out for most?..I really like his vision on the field, and after really looking at his body where there was some concerns, I'am not, he's wiry strong man. -
Forgive me if this has been stated but everyone should keep in mind that amongst all the underclass QBs that are being talked about consistently as if they've already declared for the 2012 Draft, Robert Griffin, III is the most likely to return to school.
Griffin has all these things he wants to do. He wants to get a law degree. He wants to possibly train for the Olympics (he was a world class 400m hurdles guy). I don't get the sense that he's ready to focus on football and only football, the way the NFL would try and force him to do.
And the other thing is he made some big changes to his mechanics during the summer, and it shows. He's still choppy. When he submits his tape to the scouts I fully expect them to suggest that he stays in school another year to work on them and be a cleaner player, and I doubt they'll value him at a high 1st round pick or even a 1st round pick period.
So he'll have all these things pushing him to go back to school...and that's what I ultimately think he'll do.
A while ago, maybe a month ago, someone asked me to place some odds on whether guys like Luck, Barkley, Jones and Griffin declare or not. I put Luck at 99% odds to come out. I forget if I assigned Jones any odds but I'd have put them at about 80%. I put Matt Barkley at about 50% to come out, and I put Griffin at 30%.
I believe the difference today and a month ago is that Matt Barkley is having the second half of the season that he envisioned when he once said that he wants his decision on whether to stay or go to be "easy"...and so I'd put his odds of coming out much higher after that Oregon win, maybe more like 70-80%. -
If the QB class breaks down and you have say Barkley going back to win a national championship and Griffin staying in who are your late round guys for developmental prospects. Still high on Ryan Lindley with a fifth rounder?
-
I agree with all those except Jones, I think he's a better potential NFL QB than Landry.

Ah so the accuracy is mechanical and player oriented. Interesting I could see it. I still see him sliding quite a bit in the draft but he's the type of tough, big armed, fairly mobile project you want to have. I love that he plays in a pro style offense, it's a rarity in college now but it pays off big.

I like RG3. He seems like a slightly smaller Aaron Rodgers to me. Throws a nice ball on the run, solid accuracy, and I like his command of his team. I'd take Luck and Barkley over him but that's no knock on him. I think he's got the chance to be an electric player that Luck and Barkley can't be. He's more Rodgers to me than the big two.

My concerns with Griffin center mainly about the things that are somewhat out of his control, like his height. Baylor lists him at 6'2 and I guarantee that's at least a 2 inch boost. If I had to guess I'd put him at 5'11, maybe even 5'10.
Now, some will point out that Vick is 6'0 (just barely) and he's doing just fine. Keep in mind that he really didn't develop as a passer until getting into the Eagles system, which is known to be very QB friendly. And my understanding is that Reid has tailored things for Vick so that he doesn't have to make a ton of reads to make plays.
If Griffin comes in undersized (which I believe he will) then you have to think that will affect his draft status. While a dynamic player, he's not at the same level that Vick was coming out (or even Cam Newton, for that matter). It could knock him down on draft boards, maybe out of the first round completely.
As pure speculation, if I'm RGIII and I know I'm not 6'2, I seriously consider going back to school and continue to hone my somewhat inconsistent mechanics. The thought being that I can show scouts I'm a true dual threat running and passing, and an additional year of film demonstrating that dual-threat ability would be enough to overcome any possible deficiencies in height.
That said, whichever team does take RGIII, either this year or next year, would be well served to look at what Philly is doing with Vick (and with Young) as it's obviously working and allowing them to have success. Well, the QB to have success anyway. The rest of the team is kind of a mess. -
That's not really a valid comparison IMO. Brees came from a pro-style offense where he set tons of passing records at Purdue. Griffin is a highlight reel player whose passing skills remain a work in progress. Aside from their height there's nothing similar about them.
Though I should point out that Brees was a second rounder as well. -
